Cashless medical scheme for teachers
The newly launched Chief Minister Teacher Cashless Medical Scheme has been introduced on the lines of the Ayushman Bharat scheme. It is expected to benefit nearly 12 lakh teachers, non-teaching staff and their family members across Uttar Pradesh by providing cashless medical treatment.
At the event, the Chief Minister handed over cashless medical cards to 15 beneficiaries as a symbolic launch. The beneficiaries included teachers, Shiksha Mitras, instructors and cooks.
The scheme covers teachers and employees working in government, aided and grant-in-aid schools under the Basic and Secondary Education Department. It also includes special teachers, wardens of Kasturba Gandhi Girls Schools, full-time and part-time teachers, vocational education subject experts, and other eligible teaching and non-teaching staff.
The scheme offers medical coverage of up to ₹5 lakh to more than 15 lakh teaching staff. Under the scheme, teachers across the state and their families will gain access to cashless medical facilities worth up to ₹5 lakh.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said that the government has fulfilled its promises to safeguard the health and social security of teachers, and now it was the duty of the teachers to provide quality education to the new generation in line with the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’.
The Yogi government also credited ₹1,320 crore directly into the bank accounts of around 1.10 crore students enrolled in council schools through the DBT system, with each student getting ₹1,200.
The financial support will help students buy school essentials such as uniforms, school bags, shoes, socks, sweaters and stationery according to their needs and size. The government said the step is aimed at supporting children’s education while also taking care of their basic school requirements.
MoU signed for Teachers’ social security
To strengthen the social security of teachers and contractual employees, the Basic Education Department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Bank of India (SBI). Around 10 lakh teachers and contractual employees are expected to benefit from this initiative.
During the programme, the Chief Minister also honoured 12 principals selected under the Chief Minister’s Clean Green School Award. They were presented with certificates in recognition of their contribution to maintaining clean and environmentally friendly school campuses.
