The Calcutta HC refused to prioritise an urgent hearing for a PIL that sought urgent hearing for protection of women in Sandeshkhali.

On Sunday, Shibu Prasad Hazra was produced before the Basirhat magistrate’s court where his bail plea was rejected. Hazra was remanded to police custody for eight days. This came after police that Hazra is influential and that his questioning was necessary to gather evidence.

Jui Biswas said, "Show me a single piece of evidence or a single video footage to prove that rape took place. This all is a show staged by the BJP."

SC lawyer Alakh Alok Srivastava described the Sandeshkhali incident as highly unsettling and expressed a realistic concern that a free and fair investigation and trial of the instant case could not be conducted in West Bengal, and so the case should be transferred outside the state in the interests of justice
