On Sunday, Shibu Prasad Hazra was produced before the Basirhat magistrate’s court where his bail plea was rejected. Hazra was remanded to police custody for eight days. This came after police that Hazra is influential and that his questioning was necessary to gather evidence.

"We have recommended that President's rule should be imposed in West Bengal over the situation there under Article 338 that aims to safeguard rights of SCs," the NCSC cheif said.
SC lawyer Alakh Alok Srivastava described the Sandeshkhali incident as highly unsettling and expressed a realistic concern that a free and fair investigation and trial of the instant case could not be conducted in West Bengal, and so the case should be transferred outside the state in the interests of justice
