The six persons nominated for the Rajya Sabha seats prominently include RTI 'activist', Congress loyalist-turned-TMC member Saket Gokhale who had come under public scrutiny for misappropriation of funds that he collected from Modi haters.
"The situation is not good after the elections, the general public is also not coming out due to fear. The general public is in panic. If anyone comes out, TMC threatens," a local resident said.
He further said that TMC workers were caught red-handed, changing ballot boxes in several places, with the help of contractors and local administration, before they could reach the strong rooms.
Panchayat polls in West Bengal have witnessed large-scale violence, with several cases of murders, booth capturing, and various other kinds of violence.
Governor CV Ananda Bose has taken stock of the situation on the ground amid rampant violence largely in Coochbehar, Murshidabad, and North 24 Paraganas districts.
The police have recovered the body of the BJP leader from the Bodo area of Purulia District in West Bengal. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
