This incident has sparked significant public outrage in Bolpur, especially in light of the recent murder of a trainee female doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital.

The BJP has demanded the resignation of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee stating that she should step down otherwise she would be remembered as the leader who failed women.

While recounting the mob issuing rape threats, she said, “We felt as if the same fate that happened to the victim, for whom we came here to stage a protest, would happen to us. And tomorrow someone else will protest for us. There was no safety and security.”

When a medical officer named Prabhakar Saha objected to his behaviour, the TMC goon Avinash Saha thrashed him mercilessly.

Notably, the apex court has taken suo moto cognizance of the rape and murder case that took place at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on 9th August. 

"The parents of the victim girl refused it (money) because they didn't want to be a part of the game played by the chief minister," informed Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya.

The incident took place amid the ongoing protests over the rape and murder of a junior doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

"The match has been cancelled. So please do not come there to protest, okay? That's all I wanted to say," the cop from the Bidhannagar South police station was heard saying.

The students and junior doctors continue to protest at the RG Kar Medical College & Hospital over the murder and alleged sexual assault of their female colleague on August 9 in the West Bengal city of Kolkata.

On Saturday (17th August), Sagnik Laha was produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate and sentenced to 14 days in custody.
