Chhattisgarh: Arif harasses Hindu woman, gets community members to threaten her family when they confront him

On Sunday, Arif molested a woman, whose family in turn arrived at Arif’s house and confronted him. Reports state that the agitated locals even pelted stones at the accused person’s house and thrashed the accused harasser. In response, the accused and his relatives brought hockey sticks and arrived soon to threaten the family back.

In Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district, clashes erupted over a scrap dealer [Kabaadi wala] named Arif harassing a woman late in the night on Sunday (25th August), while she was passing by. Reports say that accused Arif Langda, a Chhoti Masjid area resident is notorious for harassing and passing lewd comments on women passing by.

On Sunday, Arif molested a woman, whose family in turn arrived at Arif’s house and confronted him. Reports state that the agitated locals even pelted stones at the accused person’s house and thrashed the accused harasser. In response, the accused and his relatives brought hockey sticks and arrived soon to threaten the family back.

Subsequently, the victim’s family approached the police station demanding action against the accused. The protesting locals gheraoed the Saraswati Nagar Police Station in Kota.

After receiving information about the incident and taking note of the escalating tension on the spot, ASP West, and Azad Chowk CSP arrived with additional force and calmed both parties. Later, the police arrested Arif, who had escaped the spot; further investigation is underway.
