‘You may be a celebrity, but maintain decorum’: Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar schools Jaya Bachchan

Schooling Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan, VP Jadeep Dhankhar said, "Every day, I don't want to do schooling. You are talking about my tone? Enough of it. You may be anybody. You have to understand the decorum. You can be a celebrity but accept decorum."

On Friday (9th August), Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar came down heavily on Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan for accusing him of disrespecting her and criticising his allegedly “unacceptable” tone.

” I, Jaya Amitabh Bachchan, would like to highlight that as an artist, I understand body language and expressions. But your tone is not right. You may be sitting on the Chair and we are your colleagues, but your tone is unacceptable,” Bachchan said.

Dhankhar responded by telling Bachchan that she should understand the necessity of maintaining decorum, even if she is an actress and a celebrity. However, Dhankhar grew angry as opposition members rallied around the actor-politician and protested against him.

“Jaya ji you have earned a great reputation. You know an actor is subject to the director. But every day, I do not want to repeat myself. Every day, I don’t want to do schooling. You are talking about my tone? Enough of it. You may be anybody. You have to understand the decorum. You can be a celebrity but accept decorum,” the Rajya Sabha chairman told Jaya Bachchan.

He also added: “Never carry an impression that only you build reputations.”
