A shocking case of an attempted illegal sale of a newborn baby girl has come to light at a private hospital in Greater Noida West, Uttar Pradesh, leading to the arrest of the hospital owner and three others. The accused were attempting to sell the baby after the innocent girl child was abandoned by her parents in the hospital.
The incident involved a five-day-old infant born at Navjeevan Hospital who was allegedly being sold for ₹2.60 lakh. Police foiled the plan following a tip-off to the child helpline, rescuing the baby girl just before the handover could take place.
According to police, the baby’s mother, named Anjali, had given birth to the child at the hospital five days earlier. Hospital authorities claimed she abandoned the infant due to poverty and unpaid medical bills. The mother reportedly asked the hospital owner, Yashika Garg, to keep the child, and left the hospital, leaving the baby behind.
Motivated by greed, Yashika Garg allegedly orchestrated the illegal transaction. She asked a nurse named Pushpa to look for prospective buyers for the child. Pushpa accordingly spread out the word about the same. Noida resident Sangeeta, wife of Anshu Malik Goyal, contacted Pushpa and told her that she was willing to adopt the girl.
Pushpa and her husband helped her contact the hospital owner in finalising the adoption. When Sangeet talked to Garg, she was told that she would have to pay ₹2.60 lakh to adopt the child, and the woman agreed. However, the mention of the money alerted Sangeeta about possible illegality in the adoption, and alerted Childline about the same. The NGO then informed the police about the same.
Unaware that the plot had been exposed, Yashika Garg handed the infant over to two hospital employees, sanitation worker Gajendra Singh and technician Ranjit Singh, both from Bulandshahr, to hand over the baby to Sangeeta and collect the payment.
Acting on the information from the NGO, a joint team from Bisrakh police station, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), and the Child Welfare Committee laid a trap at the predetermined location in Patwadi village for the transaction. They rescued the child and arrested Yashika Garg, Gajendra Singh, and Ranjit Singh on Saturday, 21 March 2026.
A scooter and three mobile phones were seized as evidence and sent for forensic examination. CCTV footage from the hospital is also under analysis to trace the mother and verify her circumstances, amid suspicions she may have been an unmarried woman.
The rescued baby underwent medical checks and has been placed in the safe custody of Sai Krupa Shelter in Sector-12/22, Greater Noida.
DCP Central Noida, Shakti Mohan Awasthi, confirmed that the operation was launched promptly after the tip-off. He stated that further details would emerge during the ongoing investigation into the suspected child trafficking racket.
The three arrested individuals were produced in court on Sunday, 22 March 2026, and remanded in judicial custody. Nurse Pushpa and her husband are absconding, and police continue to search for them, considered key figures in the case.
