12,732 places raided, FIRs against 177 and 16 arrests: Yogi government starts campaign against black marketers and hoarders to ensure uninterrupted supply of fuel in Uttar Pradesh

The Yogi administration has started a comprehensive campaign to deal with the scarcity of petrol, diesel and LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), intending to penalise hoarders in Uttar Pradesh. A total of 12,732 locations have been searched to address the problems faced by the people since 12th March. The initiative has resulted in positive outcomes.

The availability of fuel in the market has been improved, and with the assistance of the Modi government, an additional 20% allocation for commercial gas cylinders has been sanctioned, starting from 23rd March (Monday). The administration has adopted a firm approach to halt illegal sales following the firm directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. 177 individuals, including 25 LPG distributors, have been booked during this operation.

The police have apprehended 16 notorious black marketers and incarcerated them, while strict legal proceedings have been started against 185 others. The government has emphasised that no mafia or hoarder obstructing the supply of essential commodities will be spared. All 4,108 LPG distributors in the state presently possess an adequate supply of gas.

The Chief Secretary has instructed all District Magistrates to ensure the timely delivery of refills to consumers according to their bookings. The centre’s decision to raise the quota of commercial cylinders by 20% has bolstered market supply, allowing domestic consumers to receive cylinders without any delays.

To ensure the system remains fully transparent, 24-hour cells have been created in the Food Commissioner’s Office and the Home Control Room. Officers are present in shifts at these locations to promptly resolve any matters related to the supply of petroleum products. District Supply Officer (DSO) teams, along with local administration in every district, are personally monitoring the situation to ensure that the supply of fuel and gas to the general public remains uninterrupted.
