The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced a set of new steps to improve the working conditions of labourers, especially in Gautam Buddha Nagar. These changes include double payment for overtime and strict rules to ensure workers get their salaries on time.
The move has been taken under the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, with the local administration working to make the district a model for labour reforms. District Magistrate Meha Roopam recently held meetings with industrial unit representatives and gave clear instructions to protect workers’ rights.
As per the new rules, any worker doing overtime must be paid double their regular wage, and no deductions will be allowed. Officials have also made it clear that workers must get a weekly holiday. If someone is asked to work on a Sunday, they will again be paid double wages.
To ensure transparency, companies have been told to pay salaries in one go by the 10th of every month and provide proper salary slips. Bonus payments must also be directly transferred to workers’ bank accounts by 30th November.
The administration has also focused on women’s safety at workplaces. All factories must now form internal complaint committees led by women to handle cases of harassment. Complaint boxes will also be installed so workers can raise issues without fear.
A special control room has been set up to quickly address complaints, and helpline numbers have been provided. Officials believe these steps will improve labour conditions and set an example for other districts.
