In Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit, a Christian missionary has been arrested for allegedly luring villagers to convert to Christianity by offering them government jobs and marriage to beautiful women. The residents of Jograjpur village caught the missionary, identified as Anokhelal, and handed him over to the police.
The arrested Christian missionary is a resident of Moradabad who went to Pilibhit to lure villagers into the Christian fold. Anokhelal visited an electronics shop owned by one Gaurav Gupta, and from there, Anokhelal began preaching Christianity.
Gradually, Anokhelal began pressuring people to convert to Christianity, luring them with promises of government jobs and marriage to a beautiful woman. When Gaurav Gupta and others protested, he began abusing them and even threatened to kill them.
The villagers then informed the police. Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh workers also reached the Sehramau police station and filed a complaint. The police arrested the accused and sent him to jail.
Jesus Christ freed me from evil spirits
While in police custody, Anokhelal stated that he had been preaching Christianity for 20 years and considered this work a good deed. He claimed that an evil spirit was pursuing him, forcing him to commit suicide. He said that he then met a man in Delhi who advised him to read the Bible.
He claimed that after this, Jesus Christ delivered him from the evil spirit, and he converted to Christianity. Since then, he has been travelling from village to village preaching Christianity. He also claimed to have sold seven acres of his land.
According to the police, Anokhelal has been preaching Christianity since 2006. He has a wife and two children, who are out of contact with him. Police are now investigating where he received funding for his preaching and which module he was working on.
