Uttar Pradesh: First commercial flight lands at Noida International Airport in Jewar, 170 farmers who gave up their land become part of historic launch

Commercial flight operations officially started at Noida International Airport on Monday, 15th June, marking a major step forward for the ambitious greenfield airport project in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. The first commercial flight to arrive at the airport was an IndiGo service from Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport.

The flight, numbered 6E-2278, landed in the morning and received a traditional water cannon salute to mark the occasion. After arriving in Jewar, the same aircraft was scheduled to depart for Bengaluru at 8.35 am and arrive at 11.05 am.

Farmers who gave land for airport join inaugural flight

One of the most memorable parts of the launch was the participation of around 170 farmers from the Jewar region, including 20 women, who had voluntarily given up their ancestral land for the airport project. They were among the passengers on the inaugural flight to Lucknow and are also expected to meet Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the visit.

Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu was present at the airport and interacted with passengers. He also distributed special commemorative boarding passes to mark the historic occasion.

Speaking about the future of the project, Naidu said, “We want to see Noida International Airport grow not only as a transit hub or a transportation hub, but as an aerotropolis. We want multiple industries to come up around this area and create a strong economic base that caters not only to the country but also internationally.”

Major boost for regional connectivity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the airport on 28th March. Located in Jewar, the airport has been developed to reduce passenger pressure on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport while also serving as a major aviation and cargo hub for northern India.

The first departing flight carried several prominent passengers, including Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh and officials from the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), among them CEO Rakesh Singh, Additional CEO Shailendra Bhatia and former Jewar SDM Abhay Singh.

Officials said the new airport will provide additional travel options for business travellers, students and professionals, while also helping boost economic activity in the region. They added that the airport has been planned as a multimodal transport hub with strong connectivity through air, road and other transport networks, making it an important infrastructure project for Uttar Pradesh and northern India.
