On Sunday (19th July), the Delhi High Court rejected the interim plea filed by the wife of Sonam Wangchuk to shift the ‘activist’ to a private hospital.
The court found that the government’s decision to admit Wangchuk to the Safdurjung hospital was not arbitrary.
“Considering the fact that Mr. Sonam Wangchuck on his own volition did not check himself into any hospital facility, the Govt was within its rights to take such action as already stated,” the court stated in its order.
The Judges also noted that only ORS (without sugar) and potassium chloride tablets have been administered so far to Sonam Wangchuk with his own consent. They pointed out that no bodily autonomy had been violated.
Since the government provided access to his wife and brother, the court ruled, “Considering this, no interim order is required to be passed at this stage. “
