In the latest development in the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (Maha-TET) 2026 paper leak probe, the Bhiwandi Police arrested another accused, Bijendra Gupta, from Bihar. Gupta, described as the mastermind of the paper leak, had been evading arrest even as the Maharashtra police conducted multiple raids across Bihar to nab him.

Last month, the police had arrested three persons connected with the question paper leak. Gupta’s wife was also arrested while he remained absconding. The police said that his wife, Suman Gupta, was aware of the paper leak racket and several financial transactions linked to the syndicate.
The total number of arrests in the case has now reached 10. Gupta has reportedly been linked with several examination paper leak cases in different parts of the country. The Maharashtra Police will bring him to Maharashtra for questioning through transit remand.
According to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the paper leak, Gupta lured two of the accused, working at an Agra-based printing press, into leaking the examination paper by promising them a plot of land each. He also gave them ₹8000 for a liquor party before they leaked the copies of the question paper.
Accused Naresh Kumar Mahore and Babulal Kushwaha, who were arrested earlier, breached the security at the printing press and leaked the paper. Mahore passed the leaked question paper to former employee Sanjay Kumar Sharma and another absconding accused, Sonu Kumar. The two then supplied the leaked paper to Bijendra Gupta. The police suspect that the accused used their familiarity with the printing process to gain access to the confidential question papers.
The Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (Maha-TET) 2026 was scheduled to take place on 28th June, but was postponed by the Maharashtra State Examination Council after reports of the paper being leaked. Four actual Maha-TET 2026 examination papers were recovered by the police last month.
The investigation into the paper leak began after police arrested three suspects, Akash Kumar, Rajiv Kumar, and Dheeraj Singh, earlier while they were allegedly attempting to sell leaked TET question papers in Thane’s Kongaon area ahead of the June 28 examination. An SIT was constituted to probe the paper leak. The investigation by the SIT led to many arrests and the recovery of leaked copies of the examination paper.
