On Sunday (25 October), tension grew in Kingaon village in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra after a frenzied Muslim mob pelted stones at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)’s route march organised on the occasion of Dussehra.
According to the reports, the Muslim mob resorted to violence over the route chosen for the march. To bring the situation under control, the police had to resort to a mild lathi-charge.
According to preliminary information, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Dussehra procession was proceeding along its planned, pre-approved route as it does every year. When a group of muslims raised objections, it led to a confrontation near a mosque, and the dispute escalated rapidly.
During the clash, stones were thrown at the procession, creating panic in the entire area. Stones were also pelted at police personnel who attempted to intervene.

Police officers present at the spot tried to mediate and pacify the two groups, but as the crowd grew aggressive and the situation showed no signs of coming under control, a lathi charge was ordered to disperse the mob. A large police contingent, led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Shrikant Dhivare and Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sandeep Gawit, rushed to the village following the incident.
Following police intervention, the route march was completed peacefully under heavy security cover. The Superintendent of Police stated that a tense calm prevails in the village and that a strong police deployment has been stationed to prevent any further untoward incidents. Authorities have also urged citizens not to believe rumours and to cooperate in maintaining peace and communal harmony.
The exact cause of the dispute remains unclear, and an official investigation into the sequence of events is underway. Further details regarding injuries or arrests are awaited.
