No rent agreement or lease document given to prove address: SEM directs CJP leader Saurav Das to submit paperwork establishing current residence during peace bond proceedings

A Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) directed Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convener Saurav Das on Friday (October 24, 2026) to submit documents proving his current residential address in Delhi. SEM (New Delhi) Ritu Raj issued the direction when Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka appeared before the executive magistrate with their sureties.

The magistrate noted that the documents submitted by Das did not include a rent agreement or lease document to prove the address of Das’s Delhi residence. The SEM order came in connection with the ongoing proceedings relating to the peace bond that Das and Ranka signed on October 21, 2026. On the request of Das’s lawyers, he has been given time till November 17, 2026, when the next hearing in the matter will take place.

The CJP leaders were released from Tihar Jail after signing a peace bond before the SEM. In the peace bond, they undertook not to engage in any activities breaching peace or disturbing public tranquillity. They also promised not to make any calls for protest at Jantar Mantar till the place is denotified as a designated protest site.

Das and Ranka were arrested by the Delhi Police on October 13, 2026, after they committed trespass at Jantar Mantar by jumping over its gates despite an official declaration that it was no longer a designated site for protests. The next day, Executive Magistrate Mahesh Kumar Meena remanded the two to five days of judicial custody, which was later prolonged by two days on 19th October, when the matter was scheduled for further proceedings. However, on 21st October, SEM ordered them to be released from Tihar jail.

This was the CJP leaders’ second detention this month. Earlier, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained alongside CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, ahead of their unauthorised agitation in the national capital on October 10, 2026. They were detained under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). All three of them were subsequently released after submitting ₹50,000 as surety and signing a peace bond, promising to maintain peace and good behaviour for a year. However, two days after signing the peace bond, Das and Ranka violated it.

The CJP, along with Opposition parties, has been attempting to create unrest targeting the Modi government in the name of opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) undertaken by the Election Commission. Neha Bora and Prashant Bhushan have openly admitted that their protests against the government are actually an attempt at regime change.
