Gurugram double shooting being perceived as a result of fanatic evangelism by a neoconvert

The shocking Gurugram double-shooting case, which transpired in broad daylight, wherein the official gunman to the Gurugram Additional District Judge Krishan Kant, shot the judge’s seventeen-year-old son and wife, left the throng of onlookers in a frenzy and the country in a deep state of shock. The initial investigation insinuates that the shooting may be a result of fanatical evangelism of the gunman.


Accused constable Mahipal, himself a recent convert, was pressurising judge’s family to convert to Christianity. He has previously converted 14 others including CRPF men.

The gunman, Mahipal (32), had open fired at the judge’s wife and son at Gurgaon’s Arcadia market near South City-II in Sector 51 here on Saturday. Mahipal fired five rounds in all. Two bullets hit the judge’s wife Ritu in the neck and torso, while his son Dhruv was shot once in the head and twice in the torso.

While the onlookers stood there filming the ghastly crime on their mobile phones the accused reportedly fled the scene in the judge’s white Honda City. He was, however, later cornered by the police near Gwal Pahadi village. He opened fire but was overpowered and arrested.

The critically injured mother-son duo was taken to Medanta Medicity. While Kant’s 37-year-old wife Ritu succumbed to her injuries late Saturday night, the condition of his 17-year-old son Dhruv, a Class XII student, is stated to be critical.

The accused during the interrogation confessed that he was disturbed as he did not like to run errands for the family and felt he was ‘possessed’ at the time of the incident. He furthered that he had called up the judge to confess his crime after he shot his family.

Unable to establish any monetary or related motive behind the crime, the investigating officials suggest that the gunman was mentally unstable as he often spoke about his recent conversion to Christianity and used to quote extensively from the Bible. He was also claiming that it was every Christian’s duty to eliminate “demons”.

Commissioner of police, KK Rao confirmed, “Investigations are on and we are still to know the real motive. Yes, he had been speaking about the Bible”.

Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar expressed shock over the incident and summoned the Home Secretary and state DGP. He has suggested counselling of cops entrusted with the security of VIPs.

Malaysia to adopt India’s Aadhaar model for providing targeted subsidies

According to a report, Malaysia is contemplating the adoption of an Aadhaar-like model for its national identity card system to directly benefit the delivery of various policies and government subsidies. The Malaysian government also believes it would help to put a stop on the wrongdoers, who illegitimately gain from government schemes.

India had offered to collaborate with Malaysia on the programmes India developed, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kuala Lumpur in May. It primarily focused on the Aadhaar initiative, discussed Malaysia’s Minister of Human Resources M Kula Segaran.

“We met UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) CEO, Ajay Bhushan Pandey… We have identity cards (known as MyKad), but with the (introduction of an Aadhaar-like) system, the primary aim is to avoid duplicity of payments and fraud and to target specific groups,” Kula Segaran said, who led the delegation to Malaysian Cabinet agreed upon to collaborate with India and explore the features of UIDAI led Aadhaar card System. The delegation comprised of the officials of Malaysia’s central bank, economic affairs ministry, finance and human resources ministry.

Kula Segaran responded in positive about the delegation’s exploring on possibilities to link the unique identity card system to the bank accounts, which would directly affect the pace of delivery of welfare schemes and benefits.

When asked about privacy concerns that can invoke strong opposition from the people across Malaysia, Segaran replied that the identity cards with personal information cards are already used for decades in Malaysia and therefore would not face problems on such grounds.  He also cleared that Malaysia would be working to adopt a “workable” format from India’s Aadhaar Card System.

Target delivery of welfare schemes has become a primary concern of the present government in Malaysia, as the government sends cheques or delivers cash to the targeted people. While discussing, the government’s efforts at making the subsidies cashless, he added that Aadhaar based system can resolve the issue with health implications.

Businesses run or should run on efficiency. From raw material to finished goods and till it reaches the hands of the ultimate consumer, efficiency plays an important role or rather can also say that inefficiency too plays an important role. At any point, if an activity is carried out in an “inefficient” manner, it adds to the time and cost. These costs then get added to the price of the product and ultimately recovered from the consumer. Money being a scarce resource, businesses always try to maximize efficiency thus thereby maximizing profits and providing same goods at cheaper prices.

Some of the inefficiences are caused due to government’s actions. For example, the ports and how they manage cargo containers could add a significant amount of time and cost to the price of the goods. Port’s are the lifelines for export-import trade. An estimate states that 90% by volume and 70% by value EXIM trade in India is managed via ports. Hence any inefficiency at this end will have devasting effects on the economy.

The Government launched the Sagarmala Project which entails 142 projects with a total investment of Rs. 91,434 crore. Along with capacity addition, conscious efforts were taken to improve the efficiency of the ports. Manual forms were eliminated and online submission of forms was introduced, direct port delivery, installation of container scanners, RFID based automation and 100% cashless transactions are being done. Apart from this 100% FDI was allowed and a new Berthing Policy and Stevedoring Policy was implemented.

The policy decisions coupled with efficiency improvement measures and capital investment is showing tremendous results.

The major ports in India have recorded a growth of 5.12%.

Cargo handled by ports is at 343.26 million tonnes during the period April to September, 2018 . The number stood at 326.54 million tonnes handled during the corresponding period of previous year.

The highest growth was registered by Kamarajar Port (19.66%), then Cochin(11.51%), Paradip (11.12%), Haldia (10.07%) and Deendayal (10.03%)

Right mix of policy, investment and integrated planning is resulting in tremendous efficiency gain and capacity utilisation. Although these gains do not result in direct benefit to the consumers, it is pertinent to note that they play an important part in the entire supply chain and give indirect benefits to not just indviduals but the economy as well.

Bringing out another one from his dedicated dictionary of foul words for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mumbai Congress Chief Sanjay Nirupam on Wednesday called PM Modi Mahishasur in reaction to a statement of Maharashtra BJP spokesperson describing PM Modi as the “11th incarnation” of Lord Vishnu.


Sanjay Nirupam has a track record of using derogatory language against Prime Minister Modi. Last month, objecting to the screening of a documentary made on the early life of PM Modi for school children he had called PM Modi ‘unpadh-ganwar’ (illiterate and uncouth). Instead of apologising for such crass language he went on defending his comment by saying that PM was no ‘God’.

That’s not it. Earlier he had posted a misogynist tweet against Textile Minister Smriti Irani who was at that time heading the Information and Broadcasting Ministry regarding the withdrawing of the directives curbing the fake news by the I&B Ministry.

However, Sanjay Nirupam is not the only leader in Congress to have stooped so low by using derogatory language against PM Modi. He was given a tough competition by his colleague Mani Shankar Aiyyar who had mocked PM Modi’s humble beginnings by calling him a ‘Chaiwalla’ and a ‘Neech Insan’.

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad too has made a casteist statement on PM Modi by referring to him as ‘Gangu Teli’ (Modi belongs to the Teli caste). Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had also referred to PM Modi as ‘Bhasmasur’ during the run-up to 2014 elections, a mythological demon.

Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi posts fake petrol bill on Twitter, gets exposed by petroleum minister

Trying to score a political point over the fuel price, today senior Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi posted an image of a petrol pump bill. This is a normal printed bill, but with a catch, at the bottom of the bill, a special message is printed. The message says “If you want to reduce petrol price don’t vote Modi again”. Is the Sai Balaji Petroleum in Vikhroli, Mumbai doing such a campaign through its bills?


Singhvi is not the first person to post this on Social media. Actually, this image, which says it is an HPL dealer, has already become viral for the last several days. And it has been proved that the bill is fake, not real. As the tweet was already doing the rounds on social media, the petroleum ministry had asked HPCL to verify the matter. HPCL had already investigated the bill and found it to be fake. In a reply sent to Petroleum ministry on 8th October, the public sector oil marketing company had noted that:

  1. The name of the company is mentioned as HPL in the bill and not HPCL.
  2. There is no outlet by the name Sai Balaji Petroleum in Vikhroli, Mumbai
  3. The bill does not match the HPCL automation format.
  4. The bill shows customer name as ‘Vaibhav‘. But bills issued by petrol pumps don’t contain customer name, instead, they mention vehicle registration number.
  5. The bill also does not mention the HPCL logo, which is printed on all bills issued by HPCL outlets.

The company also enclosed a real bill issued by an HPCL outlet for reference of the ministry.

On 10th October, Fact-checking site Social Media Hoax Slayer had posted a detail explanation of how the image is fake. The font sizes in the bill are different, which does not happen with bills printed by POS machines. They have determined that someone has taken a sample image of a bill available in websites of several POS machine vendors, and that image is manipulated using an image editing software. That is the reason why the bill says HPL dealer, as generally dummy names are used to prepare such samples, to avoid probable trademark issues.

The tweet by the Congress leader was spotted by Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and he slammed Singhvi for posting a fake image. He said that Congress has become desperate and they are trying to instigate people. He also said that press conferences by Congress have failed to achieve their objectives so the party has now resorted to rumour mongering with fake bills and wrong information.

Fake Indian Territorial Army recruitment racket busted, mastermind arrested by the Delhi Police

The Delhi Police have arrested the alleged mastermind, identified as Yogender alias Bunty (39), a resident of Charkhi Dadri in Haryana, behind the fake Indian Territorial Army recruitment racket from Haridwar.

The accused was devising the interstate racket, duping unemployed rural youths on the pretext of arranging jobs with the Indian Territorial Army, Indian Railways and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).

The matter surfaced when, as confirmed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ram Gopal Naik, on May 3, Sudheer a resident of Charkhi Dadri, registered a complaint alleging that he was cheated of Rs 5 lakh by the gang for a job in the Army.

Naik furthered that the gang subjected the victims to fake physical tests and medical examination at the army grounds and Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt. area. Similarly, fake interviews were also conducted by the accused. Forged appointment letters were issued to the victims and they were sent to distant places for duty. When they landed at the venue it was then they realised that they had been cheated, said the complaint.

Those arrested, namely, Amit Kumar, Sunil Kumar, Pradeep, Devender and Sandeep have revealed, while being interrogated by the Delhi police, that many serving and retired army officials were part of the racket.

The Delhi police declared a reward of Rs 50,000 on Yogender’s arrest, following which the mastermind behind the entire conspiracy, was arrested. A tip-off received by the police, that he was seen roaming on the ghats of Haridwar, disguised as a Sadhu (holy man), helped them to nab him.

Nine mobile phones, nineteen SIM cards, and a car were recovered from his possession, Naik said.

During interrogation, Yogender revealed that a few years ago, he got involved in duping people to make easy money. He involved serving and retired officers in the racket in order to get access to the cantonment area in Delhi, the police said.

After getting a resounding support from Pakistan, Congress President Rahul Gandhi is all set to join hands with a dreaded Naxal sympathiser and self-proclaimed poet Gummadi Vittal Rao also known as Gaddar to fight for “secular forces” in the upcoming elections. According to the Congress’s mouthpiece National Herald, Congress president Rahul Gandhi met the 71-year old ‘revolutionary’ Maoist poet Gaddar at his residence on Friday where he expressed his wish to contest the next assembly elections against “fascist and feudal forces”.

“Earlier today, I met with the revolutionary Telugu poet and Dalit rights activist, Shri Gummadi Vittal Rao, more familiarly known as GADDAR. Amongst the many issues we discussed, was how to defend our Constitution from the systematic attack by the forces of fascism that seek to undermine it”, Rahul said after his meeting.

Reportedly, Gaddar’s son and wife have joined Congress earlier this year and intend to contest the upcoming state elections on a Congress ticket. Incidentally, Gaddar has also sought a party ticket for his son Surya Kiran in Bellampally seat and two more seats to his followers.

Gummadi Vittal Rao, a Naxal sympathizer and also founded Jana Natya Mandali in 1972, the cultural wing of CPIML-Peoples War movement, which supports the armed revolution against the country. In 1970s, he urged the youth to adopt a militant life and he himself went underground between 1985 and 1990s to find cadres in the interior belt to increase party strength.

The Congress party in its mission to end BJP’s rule across the country has been playing with fire by joining hands with Anti-India brigade and is also on a path to mainstream the Maoist movement by involving with former Naxal leaders and sympathisers of the Left-wing terror, whose aim is to divide the country on caste lines and to raise an armed revolt against the state.

In the most bizarre encounter ever a Uttar Pradesh police personnel shouts ‘thain thain’ as an attempt to echo the sound of a gunshot to intimidate criminals during an encounter in Sambhal after his revolver got jammed.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), in an attempt to create panic amongst the criminal and create mental pressure, uses words like ‘maaro maaro’ (as in killing them), ‘ghero ghero’ ( as in blocking them) as his revolver malfunctioned during the encounter.

The ASP confirmed that the cartridges getting stuck in the revolver was due to a ‘technical fault’.

ANI shared a video of the incident dated October 12, where the police personnel can be heard using those phrases during the clash.


However, it was later reported that in the same encounter a criminal was arrested after being shot at in the leg. One policeman was also injured in the exchange of fire.

Junior Minister in the Modi government and former journalist M J Akbar, who has been accused of sexual harassment by many women during his stint as a journalist has reportedly tendered his resignation.


Akbar landed back in Delhi last night from Nigeria, where he was on an official trip as Minister of State for External Affairs and as per reports, he sent his resignation through an email. Last week, as many women opened up on social media about the sexual harassment they have faced, a lot of women came forward to accuse Akbar, who was then the editor at various publications including Asian Age.

Earlier, speaking to media, BJP President Amit Shah had addressed the grave allegations against M J Akbar and said that the allegations against him would be examined and action would be taken accordingly.

A barrage of harassment charges against MJ Akbar followed as one notable journalist Ghazala Wahab penned down her ordeal dating back to the 1990s. Several other journalists who have been his victim have concurred with the allegations made by Wahab. As per the latest account by a foreign journalist Majlie de Puy Kamp, who was 18 when she interned at the Asian Age in 2007, Akbar violated her boundaries and betrayed her and her parent’s trust.

Mumbai: Student spends 45 days in police custody over Facebook post for ‘defamatory remarks’ against Dargahs

Sunny Gupta, an engineering student was released from the jail on Friday after he had spent nearly 45 days for writing a Facebook post allegedly asking Hindus to refrain from visiting Ajmer Sharif Dargah. Sunny Gupta was jailed by the Mumbai Police for ‘cyber terrorism’ and trying to create religious disharmony.

According to the reports, on August 31, a local businessman Zarul Khan complained to the Mumbai Police in Ghatkopar regarding the details of Sunny’s post, stating that Sunny’s writing on Facebook is not healthy for the society and could create tensions between two communities. Khan also said that Sunny’s post also had certain defamatory remarks against Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti and Prithviraj Chauhan. He further added that his post may create a divide between two communities.

The Mumbai Police soon after receiving the complaint on August 31, arrested Sunny Gupta and put him behind the bars, and was released on October 12, after spending close to one and a half months in jail.

The police officials had booked Sunny under sections 153 (A) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 295 (A) (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code and 66 (F) (cyber terrorism) of the Information Technology Act.

The Mumbai police justified their action and said that they’ve acted in accordance with the law. Sudhir Nigudkar, a Senior inspector of Ghatkopar police station said, “Whatever action has been taken in the case is as per the law.”

However, Sunny’s elder brother Gauri Prasad refuted the allegations and said that the police acted in a very unfair manner in this case. “How did they book my brother under the [cyber] terrorism act? His intention was not to spread bitterness in society”. He further said that the arrest of his brother on certain charges has spoiled his brother’s career. “However, we have faith in the judiciary”, said Gauri Prasad.
