Haryana: Mohammed Zubair and others take Muslim man hostage in Nuh, assault him brutally for listening to DJ

In the Nuh district of Haryana, a case of assault and holding a person hostage at home has emerged in Shah Chaukha village, under the jurisdiction of the Pingwan police station.

According to the victim’s complaint, the police have registered a case under various sections for stopping him in front of their house, taking him hostage inside their home, assaulting him and his friends, and threatening to kill the victims.

The police stated that a case had been registered and the accused would be arrested soon. According to the information, Mausim, a resident of Shah Chaukha, filed a complaint at Pingwan police station.

The complaint stated that on 18th June at midnight, a boy’s wedding was happening in their neighbourhood. He went to see the DJ there along with Kasam and Hafiz. At that moment, Akki his brother Zubair, and other people present started hurling abuses at them upon seeing them.

When Hafiz protested against their abuses, Akki, Zubair, and the others started beating him with the sticks they had in their hands and struck him on the head. As soon as Hafiz was struck on the head, he fell to the ground and lost consciousness.

Mausim stated that when they were taking Hafiz to the hospital for treatment, Ghulam Nabi and others were standing in front of their house. They stopped them on the way and started assaulting them. During this time, they forcibly took Kasam into their house, locked him in a room, and brutally beat him with sticks and rods.

The victims dialled 112 and informed the police, upon which the police arrived at the scene. After considerable efforts, the police opened the main gate of the accused’s house and rescued Kasam who was held captive in a locked room. The police took Kasam, in serious condition, for treatment. During this time, the accused said, “Today the police have saved you, but someday you will be killed.”

The victim reported that Abdul Ghani, Nasruddin, and a dozen other people from the village were present at the scene. During this time, Kasim and Hafiz suffered severe injuries and were taken to the government hospital in Mandi Kheda, where after initial treatment for their serious injuries, they were referred to Nuh Medical College and subsequently referred to PGI Rohtak.

During this time, the victims Kasim and Hafiz stated that the accused are dabangs, aggressive and belligerent individuals, who have been residing in Shah Chokha village for the past 6-7 years after coming from Papara village. They recounted that in Papara village, these suspects had an altercation where they assaulted someone with sticks before relocating to Shah Chokha village, where their reputation for aggressive behaviour is well-known.

During this time, Abdul Ghani, Nasruddin, Umar Mohammad, Amir, Shahid, and others from the village explained that during a nearby wedding where music was playing, these individuals attacked Hafiz with a stick, injuring him for no reason. They added that these people had previously committed murder in a fight in Papara village and proudly displayed their aggressive behavior in Shah Chokha village, stating they moved there after killing someone in Papara village.

The police stated that they had registered a case against Akki, Shakeel, Vakil, Ghulam Nabi, Zubair, Akram, Zahid, Sajid, Dhooli Arshida, and Shahruna under various sections, including charges of assaulting and threatening to kill while holding someone hostage. Further action is being taken in this matter.

A few days earlier, on 21st June, a Hindu family was attacked at their shop in village Akerda of district Nuh, Haryana for voting for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

‘Rahul Gandhi, why won’t you go to Cooch Behar’: Arnab Goswami slams Opposition for ignoring plight of woman stripped and assaulted in West Bengal

On Friday (28th June), the Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV, Arnab Goswami, slammed Rahul Gandhi and the Indian Opposition for maintaining a stoic silence over the atrocities committed on a woman in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal.

While slamming their politics of convenience, Goswami said, “The same thing that happened in Manipur has happened in Bengal. But they are completely quiet (now).”

He highlighted how the Opposition camp ignored the disturbing case of a Muslim woman, who was reportedly stripped and assaulted by Trinamool Congress goons in the Mamata Banerjee-ruled-state.

Arnab Goswami emphasised, “In my view, this proves that they are absolutely nothing but a bunch of political opportunists who leapt and booked an entire jet.”

He did not mince words before slamming Congress scion Rahul Gandhi and his entire digital ecosystem.

“Remember the jet that Rahul Gandhi booked to Manipur? Rahul Gandhi, why won’t you book a jet and go to Cooch Behar,” the Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV further inquired.

In May 2023, visuals surfaced on social media which showed two women paraded naked in full public glare by a mob of men in Manipur. It was also learnt that the two victims were gang-raped by the mob.

The Background of the Cooch Behar Case

As per reports, a group of TMC goons attacked the woman for being a worker of the Opposition BJP in the State. The victim’s father has now filed a complaint with the police.

According to the police complaint, the local TMC cadre has prevented the woman from stepping out of her house since the Lok Sabha elections were announced on 4th June 2024.

The victim was attacked on Thursday when she was en route home from a nearby park. A group of TMC goons attacked her, stripped her and then dumped her clothes in a river.

They have also threatened to break her house if she dared to step out again. The Cooch Behar police have so far detained 4 people, including the primary accused Shafiqul, in connection to the case.

UP: E-rickshaw driver Salman entraps a Hindu woman under false pretences, his father and brother rape her after marriage, pressurise her to convert

A horrific incident of love jihad has come to light in the Mohanlalganj area of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh where a Muslim man named Salman Rain faked his identity to marry a 28-year-old Hindu woman and then converted her forcibly to Islam. Furthermore, his father and his brother also raped her. She eventually went to the police for assistance after he began to molest her underage daughter.

The victim, a resident of Lucknow stated that the accused drives an e-rickshaw. He became friends with her in 2009 after keeping his identity hidden. He then seduced her in his trap and established a physical relationship with her as well as recorded an explicit video of her. The culprit then called her to court in 2011 to marry him where she learned about the truth upon reaching there and refused to tie the knot with him. However, he threatened to defame her by sharing her video online after which she had no choice but to relent to his demand.

She further revealed that when she reached her in-laws’ house after the wedding she was pressured to change her religion. She tried to protest but was assaulted by them. The perpetrator’s father and brother even gang-raped her. She also had to undergo multiple abortions during her time there. She has three daughters and the eldest one is 12-years-old. She disclosed that her spouse and his family members targeted the little girl with their evil intentions. Therefore, she somehow managed to reach the Mohanlalganj police station but didn’t receive any help. Afterwards, she met with the Police Commissioner of Lucknow and narrated her ordeal.

The Mohanlalganj police station registered a case against the offender on the instruction of the senior official and apprehended him. He was then presented before the court and sent to prison. The authorities have launched a manhunt to arrest the accused’s brother and father.

NEET-UG paper leak: CBI arrests Oasis School principal Dr Ehsanul Haq and vice principal Imtiaz Alam from Jharkhand

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has formally arrested Dr Ehsanul Haq, the principal of the Oasis School in Hazaribag, and vice principal Imtiaz Alam along with five others concerning the NEET leak case. These arrests came after a three-day interrogation. Furthermore, a senior journalist from a local daily was questioned today as part of the ongoing investigation.

Haq was first interrogated for several hours at Oasis School on Wednesday. Subsequently, he was taken to a guest house in Hazaribag for further questioning. On Friday morning, he was brought to his school office for two hours. He was subsequently arrested with 7 others after being kept in CBI custody for over 50 hours.

The arrests came a day after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took two individuals from Patna under custody in connection with the NEET-UG exam paper leak case, marking the first arrests made by the agency in this case.

The individuals arrested were identified as Manish Prakash and Ashutosh Kumar. They allegedly provided secure locations for aspirants before the examination, where the leaked papers and answer keys were distributed, according to officials.

The CBI has filed six FIRs in the NEET paper leak case. The first FIR was registered on Sunday, following the ministry’s announcement to hand over the investigation of the exam’s alleged irregularities to the central agency. This decision came after a group of protesting students demanded a CBI probe.

The CBI took over the case on Monday, visiting the office of the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police to begin their investigation into the alleged exam irregularities.

The NEET-UG, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), is an entrance exam for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in government and private institutions across India. This year’s exam took place on May 5 at 4,750 centres in 571 cities, including 14 abroad, with over 23 lakh candidates appearing for the test.

Uttar Pradesh: Woman drowns her 3 children in a river, fourth one fakes death to escape

On Thursday, 28th June, a woman drowned her children in the Sengur River, allegedly following a fight with her brother-in-law in Talhepur village, Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh. Police have detained the suspected woman for interrogation. The incident was mainly triggered by a family disagreement.

According to police, the event occurred in the Phaphund Kotwali police station area, when a 27-year-old woman, Priyanka, widow of Avneesh Kumar, brought her four children to the Keshampur ghat of the Sengur river following a quarrel with her brother in law.

She forcibly fed them a toxic chemical and then pushed three children, Aditya (6), Madhav (4), and Mangal (one and a half years old), into the river. Her fourth child, Sonu, who is eight years old, however, faked his death and managed to flee the scene.

The police discovered the bodies of the three children in the river with the assistance of divers and sent them for postmortem examination. Sonu, the woman’s eldest child, informed authorities that his mother drove them to the Sengur River’s Keshampur ghat. She fed his three siblings something before pushing them one by one into the river.

He explained that as soon as they fell into the river, they all drowned. “When my mother tried to drag me towards the river, I raised an alarm and ran away from there,” he stated. Charu Nigam, Superintendent of Police (SP), Auraiya, stated that the woman ran when she saw some others approaching the river.

“However, after a brief search, she was held and later taken into police custody. Divers have found the bodies of all three children. Froth was coming from the mouths of the three dead children, which suggested that they were poisoned before being pushed into the river,” Nigam added.

According to the official, authorities are interrogating the woman, but she has yet to be ready to speak. The accused woman’s husband, Avneesh, died from an electric shock about one and a half years ago. After that, she lived with her brother-in-law, Ashish. However, according to family members, her relationship with Ashish was strained.

Nigam stated that Priyanka left home in a vehicle on Thursday morning with her four children, Sonu, Aditya, Madhav, and Mangal, after arguing with her family members. “While leaving the house, she called her sister-in-law Gita and informed her that she was going to die with the children. After that, the phone was disconnected,” Nigam explained.

“Deeply biased, selective usage of facts”: India rejects USCIRF report on religious freedom

On Friday (28th June), the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) rejected the US State Department’s report on international religious freedom calling it “deeply biased”. MEA stated that the report published by USCIRF lacked an understanding of India’s social fabric.

Criticising the report during a media interaction today, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the report is deeply driven by vote bank considerations.

“We have noted the release by the US State Department of its report on international religious Freedom for 2023. As in the past, the report is deeply biased, lacks an understanding of India’s social fabric, and is visibly driven by votebank considerations and a prescriptive outlook. We therefore reject it,” Jaiswal said.

He further pointed out that the USCIRF report is a blend of misrepresentations, imputations, reliance on biased sources and one-sided projection of issues. In addition, Jaiswal emphasised that the report, in some cases, questions the validity of constitutional provisions and laws.

“The excise itself is a mix of imputations, misrepresentations, selective usage of facts, reliance on biased sources, and a one-sided projection of issues. This extends even to the depiction of our constitutional provisions and duly enacted laws of India. It has selectively picked incidents to advance a preconceived narrative as well. In some cases, the very validity of laws and regulations are questioned by the report, as are the right of legislatures to enact them. The report also appears to challenge the integrity of certain legal judgments given by Indian courts,” Jaiswal said.

The MEA spokesperson also highlighted that the US State Department report targeted the regulations monitoring the financial flow into India. While the US insinuates that there is no need for such measures and compliance to the same is “unreasonable”, they have even more strict laws in this regard.

The report also appears to challenge the integrity of certain legal judgments given by Indian courts,” Randhir Jaiswal said.

Randhir Jaiswal also stated that human rights and respect for diversity are legitimate topics for conversation between India and the United States. He emphasised India’s continuous efforts to combat hate crimes, racial attacks on Indian nationals and other minorities in the United States, vandalism, and the targeting of places of worship. However, he cautioned against using such conversation as a pretext for foreign intervention in domestic issues.

“In 2023, India has officially taken up numerous cases in the US of hate crimes, racial attacks on Indian nationals and other minorities, vandalisation and targeting of places of worship, violence and mistreatment by law enforcement authorities, as well as according to political space to advocates of extremism and terrorism abroad. However, such dialogue should not become a license for foreign interference in other polities,” the MEA spokesperson said.

This comes after the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), an organisation India has strongly criticised in the past, again raised ‘concerns’ over religious freedoms, citing the alleged rise in ‘hate speech’, demolitions and anti-conversion laws. The USCIRF report came a few weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his third term in office and India and the United States agreed to strengthen cooperation in high technology areas during a visit by White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan to New Delhi.

‘Those who questioned Lord Ram’s existence, now proving his existence from north to south’: BJP’s Sudhanshu Trivedi takes a dig at INDI bloc

On Friday (28th June), BJP MP in Rajya Sabha Sudhanshu Trivedi hit back at the opposition over the assertion that the BJP lost the Lok Sabha election from all the places associated with Lord Ram including Ayodhya.

The BJP MP said that the opposition is unable to understand the Lord’s Leela. He said that Lord Ram has forced the opposition to acknowledge Lord Ram’s existence. During his speech in the Rajya Sabha, Trivedi said “Our opponents claim that you lost Ayodhya, Basti, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, Nashik, and Rameshwaram. They claim that the BJP lost in all sites related to Lord Ram because they were unable to comprehend the Lord’s Leela. Those who used to say that Bhagwan Ram does not exist and used to ask for proof of his existence are proving Lord Ram’s existence from north to south, including Ayodhya, Basti, Prayagraj, Ramtek, and Rameshwaram. You think God came to defeat us, but God came to make you accept his existence…”

The BJP MP further recalled an incident mentioned in the Ramayan wherein Bhagwan Ram was caught in the Nagpaash [serpent noose] and fell unconscious causing delight among the anti-Ram party. However, this was part of the Lord’s Leela to remind Hanuman ji of his power. This is not the first time it has happened. When the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, and Congress (I) formed the government in Uttar Pradesh 30 years ago, they raised the slogan “Mulayam Kanshi Ram mile, Jai-Shri Ram ud gaye hawa mein.” In three years, we demonstrated our unwavering commitment by forming governments in Uttar Pradesh and the Centre. Sudhanshu Trivedi also emphasised that Lord Ram is not a matter of victory or defeat for the BJP.

“Even when we were a party with just two seats, even then we were standing the same way as we are standing now. For us, Lord Ram is not a matter of victory or defeat…” Trivedi said.

It is interesting to recall that the Congress-led UPA 1 Central Government stated back in September 2007 that there is no historical proof of Lord Ram’s existence. The UPA Government headed by the Congress party had told the Supreme Court that there was no historical evidence for the existence of Shri Ram. According to the then UPA government, the Ramayana lacked ‘scientific and historical veracity’.

“Valmiki Ramayana and Ramcharitmanas admittedly form an important part of ancient Indian literature, but these cannot be said to be historical records to incontrovertibly prove the existence of the characters and occurrences of events depicted therein,” the UPA government had told the Supreme Court in an affidavit. The affidavit was filed to register the UPA government’s opposition to the demand to scrap the Sethusamudram project as it would damage the Ram Setu.

‘Sabarimala season is coming, expect tit for tat’: Kerala Minister Ganesh Kumar warns Tamil Nadu govt against seizure of its buses amid tax dispute

On 27th June, Kerala Transport Minister KB Ganesh Kumar issued a warning to the Tamil Nadu government over the confiscation of buses operated by Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) in Tamil Nadu under the pretext of collecting taxes. “If our people are troubled, we will trouble their people visiting Kerala. Don’t forget that Sabarimala season is coming up. Most devotees come from Tamil Nadu. We will fill up our treasury,” he stated while addressing the assembly.

According to him, there was no discussion regarding the most recent tax increase with the state by the Tamil Nadu government. He said, “The centre is saying, it is the same tax across the country. We are on good terms, but Tamil Nadu did not even discuss with us when they increased the amount per seat on a bus by Rs 4,000.” He added that if the KSRTC buses were seized, Tamil Nadu buses would also be seized and there would be no compromise on this.

He declared, “Tamil Nadu should remember that Sabarimala season is coming. Most people come here from there. We will also fill the treasury. The position is that if you charge Rs 4,000 there, we will also charge Rs 4,000 here. If the KSRTC bus is seized, the Tamil Nadu vehicle will also be confiscated here. There is no compromise on that.” He further threatened retaliation and stated that if people travelling from the state to Tamil Nadu were harassed or hurt then those coming from there would meet the same fate. He voiced that Tamil Nadu buses would receive the same treatment if KSRTC buses were halted there. He spoke of a tough stance on the issue and announced that no indulgence would be granted.

Non-state buses operating in Tamil Nadu under the pretence of All India Tourist Permits obtained from other states were subject to restrictions imposed by the government. These vehicles would stop at different areas and pick up passengers. Subsequently, the Motor Vehicles Department of Tamil Nadu intensified its inspections of private buses registered in other states that were passing through the state while carrying passengers. The government of Tamil Nadu set a 17th June deadline for buses registered in other states to re-register with the state’s regional transport authority. 545 busses in total including ones from Kerala have been prohibited till now.

Each bus would pay an extra Rs 1 lakh a month to cover the additional tax. Interstate bus services from Kerala to Tamil Nadur were impacted in the third week of June when the latter stopped its busses in protest of an extra charge. The Supreme Court was then approached by tour bus operators. Tamil Nadu later decided against blocking the buses after speaking with Kerala’s transport department officials. Bus operators, however, accused that Tamil Nadur authorities continued to harass them about driving buses that are registered in Kerala.

A representative of the Interstate Bus Operator’s Association of Karnataka Rijas A J alleged, “Buses with All India Tourist Permit (AITP) can operate anywhere. When the law is against them they have started issuing fines. Tamil Nadu is putting pressure on us to register there.”

Love Jihad in Assam: 20-year-old man from Baksa district poses as Rana Saha to trap a Hindu girl; arrested on several charges, including POCSO

A 20-year-old male from the Baksa district of Assam was taken into custody on accusations of hiding his religious affiliation to trap a Hindu girl. The incident has spurred debate and prompted fears about the spread of the menace of love jihad in the area. The offender pretended to be a Hindu guy named Rana Saha on social media platforms to communicate with the victim, according to police reports.

Her family asserted that he created fictitious profiles on Facebook and Instagram to get closer to her. He was apprehended by members of the Bajrang Dal and turned over to the police at the Barpeta Road police station. A legal complaint has also been lodged against him by the female’s sister. A case (No. 15/24) has been opened by the police under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, involving allegations of criminal intimidation, cheating and fanning religious sentiments. Furthermore, the inclusion of charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act raises the possibility that the girl is a juvenile.

In 2019, a 14-year-old girl was kidnapped and sexually assaulted in the Salbari sub-division within the Baksa district by a young man identified as Aidur Ali, a resident of Salmara in Bongaigaon. He masqueraded as a Hindu named Rahul Nath to persuade the minor. The Gobardhana Police then arrested him on suspicion of abduction and rape. People living in the neighbourhood revealed that Aidur Ali used to call her regularly, and he took her away when she was en route to the home of her uncle after which he committed the crime.

The girl’s family members registered a First Information Report after she was rescued and the culprit was tracked down. It read, “The girl was on her way to her uncle’s home at Kalpani when Aidul took her to one of his relatives’ home at No 1 Salmara village of Abhayapuri of Bongaigaon district and raped her for 3 days.” One of the locals voiced, “We found several contact numbers of girls and their photographs in his mobile handset. We suspect it to be a case of love jihad. He has been targeting girls like this for quite some time now.”
