Tips and techniques for improving your Rummy gameplay

Rummy is a classic card game millions of players worldwide enjoy. Whether you are a seasoned player or new to the game, mastering advanced strategies can significantly improve your gameplay and increase your chances of winning. This comprehensive guide will explore various tips and techniques to help you enhance your rummy skills.

Basics of Rummy

Before diving into advanced strategies, it’s crucial to have a solid understanding of the basic rules of rummy. Rummy is usually played with two to six players using one or two standard decks of cards. The objective is to arrange your cards into valid sequences and sets.

  • Sequence: A sequence is a group of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. There are two types of sequences:
    • Pure Sequence: A sequence without a joker.
    • Impure Sequence: A sequence that includes a joker.
  • Set: A set is a group of three or four cards of the same rank but different suits.

The game begins with each player being dealt a specific number of cards. Players then take turns drawing and discarding cards, aiming to form valid sequences and sets. The game ends when a player successfully arranges all their cards and makes a valid declaration.

Advanced Strategies for Rummy Gameplay

Prioritize Pure Sequences

Pure sequences (formed without jokers) are essential for declaring (ending the game). Focus on building pure sequences early in the game to secure a winning position and avoid getting high-value penalty points.

Managing Your Hand

Efficiently managing your hand is crucial in rummy. Once you have a pure sequence, focus on creating an impure sequence and sets.

Using Jokers Wisely

Jokers are powerful cards in rummy that can be used to complete sequences and sets. However, using them wisely is important. It’s generally a good idea to use jokers to complete impure sequences or sets with high-value cards.

Discarding High-Value Cards

As mentioned earlier, holding onto high-value cards can be risky. If you have high-value cards not part of any sequence or set, discard them as soon as possible. This strategy reduces your points if an opponent declares before you can arrange your cards.

Observing and Analyzing Opponents

One key strategy in rummy is observing your opponents’ moves closely. Please pay attention to the cards they pick and discard. It can give you valuable insights into their strategies and the sequences or sets they are trying to form.

For example, suppose an opponent frequently picks cards of a particular suit. In that case, it indicates they are working on a sequence in that suit. Use this information to your advantage by holding onto cards they might need or discarding cards that are unlikely to be useful to them.

Bluffing

Bluffing is a psychological strategy that can be highly effective in rummy. Discarding cards that might mislead your opponents about your hand can create confusion and make it difficult for them to predict your moves. For example, discarding a card of a suit you are working on can make opponents think you are not interested in that suit.

Focusing on Middle Cards

Middle cards (5, 6, 7, and 8) are versatile and can be easily combined with other cards to form sequences. Prioritize collecting and holding onto middle cards, as they increase your chances of quickly forming sequences.

Keeping Track of Discarded Cards

Keeping track of the cards that have been discarded is a critical strategy in rummy. This helps you understand which cards are still in play and which are out of the game. Doing so lets you make informed decisions about which cards to keep and which to discard.

Calculating Probabilities

Rummy involves a significant element of probability. You can make more strategic decisions by calculating the probability of drawing specific cards. For example, if you need a particular card to complete a sequence, consider the number of cards left in the deck and whether it’s worth waiting for them or focusing on forming a different sequence.

Adapt to the Game Flow

A winning strategy is dynamic, adapting to the game’s flow and your opponents’ actions. Adjust your approach based on the cards being played and discarded. If a sequence seems difficult to make, focus on building sets instead.

Utilize Available Tools

Many online Rummy platforms offer tools like “sort” and “meld suggestions.” These features help you organize your hand efficiently and identify potential melds you might have overlooked.

Study Opponent Statistics

Some online platforms offer player statistics. Look for information like win rates and discarding habits to understand your opponents’ tendencies.

Ignoring Opponents’ Moves

Failing to observe and analyze your opponents’ moves can put you at a disadvantage. Always keep an eye on the cards your opponents pick and discard.

Holding onto High-Value Cards

If you lose, holding onto high-value cards for too long can increase your points. Discard them early to minimize your risk.

Over-Reliance on Jokers

While jokers are valuable, over-reliance on them can be damaging. Focus on forming pure sequences and use jokers strategically.

Poor Time Management

Effective time management is crucial in online rummy. Avoid taking too long to make decisions, as this can disrupt your focus and lead to mistakes.

Neglecting Practice

Rummy is a skill game that requires practice. Neglecting regular practice can lead to a decline in gameplay. Use free games to keep your skills sharp.

Conclusion

Mukhtar Ansari’s goons still terrorising people in UP: Out-on-bail gang member takes out convoy with supporters, shares video on Instagram

Amidst Yogi Adityanath’s government’s stern policy of zero-tolerance against organised crime, criminals, and mafia Raj, gang members of Mukhtar Ansari recently attempted to undermine the rule of law in the state. As per reports, they recently took out a convoy through prominent streets of Lucknow to terrorise the state residents. Notably, the supporters of Abhishek Singh alias Babu, a henchman of Mukhtar Ansari gang who is out on bail, took out a convoy that started right outside the jail gate.

The convoy included several dozens of vehicles that caused inconvenience to commuters and was seen as an act of challenging the rule of law in the state. Incidentally, Singh shared the video of the convoy on his Instagram post which started doing rounds on social media platforms on Friday (28th June).

While the veracity of the video as well as its date is yet to be ascertained, Police took cognisance of the viral video and filed a case at the Gomtinagar extension police station. In the viral video, out-on-bail Abhishek was seen taking out a convoy of cars with his supporters and creating chaotic scenes on the prominent streets of the state capital.

ADCP East Amit Kumawat stated that the viral video is from near the G-20 intersection. Based on the footage, a case has been registered in Gomtinagar extension police station and the Police have initiated a search operation to nab the accused.

It is pertinent to note that in September 2020, the then Police Commissioner Sujit Pandey launched a campaign against the Mukhtar Ansari gang. They simultaneously raided around 42 places in which several gang members including Abhishek Singh alias Babu were arrested. He was arrested from Gomti Nagar Extension and the police had recovered bomb-making material and the keys of a bulletproof vehicle. They had also seized several vehicles from the accused.

Subsequently, he was booked under the Gangster Act. Ansari’s henchman, Abhishek Singh alias Babu is accused in multiple cases and he once used to have a strong sway and terror in the Aliganj area in Lucknow. According to the Police, Abhishek is a member of the Mukhtar Ansari gang and he was involved in land grabbing and extortion.

Ayodhya: Yogi Adityanath govt suspends Mohammed Shahid and 5 other engineers over water logging and road cave-ins

On Friday (28th June), the Yogi Adityanath-led-government in Uttar Pradesh suspended 6 engineers for negligence and dereliction of duty.

The development comes three days after waterlogging and road cave-ins were reported at several places on the newly constructed Rampath in Ayodhya.

The six government officials were identified as Dhruv Aggarwal, Anuj Deshwal and Prabhat Pandey, Anand Kumar Dubey, Rajendra Kumar Yadav (assistant engineer) and Mohammad Shahid.

While three of the engineers belonged to the Public Works Department (PwD), the others worked at the Jal Nigam. The suspensions were ordered in light of the poor construction work in Ram Path area, which connects the Lata Chowk with the Ram Mandir.

The Yogi Adityanath government along with PwD Minister AK Sharma had taken cognisance of road cave-ins at several locations in front of Krishna Palace Hotel on Ram Path and between Rikabganj and Post Office Crossing.

Besides, a notice has also been served to Ahmedabad-based Bhugan Infracon Pvt Ltd, which carried out civil construction work in Ayodhya.

NEET-UG paper leak: CBI arrests Prabhat Khabar journalist Jamaluddin Ansari, earlier school principal Ehsanul Haque and vice principal Imtiaz Alam were nabbed

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a journalist in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh and conducted searches at seven locations in Gujarat in connection with the NEET-UG paper leak case. The journalist who has been identified as Jamaluddin Ansari works for a Hindi newspaper ‘Prabhat Khabar’ and has been accused of assisting the principal and vice-principal of Oasis School, who were captured on 28th June. This is the agency’s fifth arrest in the matter after it took over the case from Bihar’s Economic Offences Unit (EOU).

Ehsanul Haque, the principal of Oasis School, was appointed the city coordinator of Hazaribagh for the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) medical entrance examination carried out on 5th May. Vice principal Imtiaz Alam was assigned as the centre coordinator and NTA observer at the institution. CBI traced two journalists who had connections with the principal and vice-principal, one of which has now been apprehended. Notably, the CBI is likely to arrest more accused in the case.

Two other people Manish Kumar and Ashutosh have already been nabbed. Ashutosh gave the students shelter at his house while Manish Kumar helped drive the students in his car and is suspected of providing the use of an abandoned school where at least twenty pupils were handed the leaked paper and memorized it. The pair were taken into custody after being summoned by the agency to be questioned on 27th June. Three candidates in Gujarat who had solicited help to clear the exam recorded their statements with the probe agency.

The Oasis School was the source of the paper leak, according to the CBI’s investigation. The questioned paper boxes were stored in banks and had two locks including a digital lock that was unlocked forty-five minutes prior to the exam and a manual lock that required a key. Furthermore, the agency has taken up the investigation in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Bihar and filed six First Information Reports related to the matter. This includes five from the states where it took over the inquiry, as well as its own official complaint based on a reference from the Union Ministry of Education. Three cases in Rajasthan and one each in Gujarat and Bihar have been taken over by the investigation agency.

The first FIR by the central agency was lodged on 23rd June, one day after the ministry declared it would turn over the investigation into the anomalies in the exam’s administration to the CBI. The searches at seven locations in Gujarat are reportedly linked to the suspects in the paper leak case. The raids occurred at Godhra, Kheda, Ahmedabad and Anand. In addition to five further arrests made later, there are 13 accused in the case, including four examinees.

The EOU stated that the infamous Sanjeev Kumar also known as Lutan Mukhiya gang reportedly stole the “leaked” NEET-UG question paper from the Oasis School in Hazaribagh. It was reported that the investigators had verified the source of the leak by comparing a partially burned question paper that they had discovered in the Patna safe house with the reference question paper provided by the NTA. They added that the probe had also revealed that the Hazaribagh officials had not appropriately followed the established procedures for opening the question paper boxes.

Ehsanul Haque has insisted that the reason the question paper box could not be opened was that the computerized lock inside it, which was meant to open on its own, had broken. Afterwards, he alleged, that he got in touch with the NTA who requested that he open the box using a cutter.

‘Public representatives not expected to create erroneous and slanderous impressions’: Bengal Governor files defamation case against CM Mamata Banerjee

On Friday (28th June), West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose filed a defamation case against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Calcutta High Court, PTI reported, citing a source. The development came a day after CM Banerjee alleged misconduct at the Raj Bhavan claiming that women informed her that they were afraid to visit the Raj Bhavan because of the activities there.

Before filing the defamation suit, Bose slammed CM Banerjee for her remarks against the Raj Bhavan. He stressed that it was expected of public representatives not to create “erroneous and slanderous impressions”.

Apart from Bengal CM who is also Trinamool Congress party Chief, Governor Bose has also filed defamation suit against a few TMC leaders for making similar remarks, the source added.

Speaking with PTI, the source said, “Governor CV Ananda Bose on Friday moved the Calcutta High Court and filed a defamation suit against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party leaders for their comments.”

TMC Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen refrained from responding to media queries on this development stating that she will discuss the matter with the party leadership. She told PTI, “I have to talk to my party leadership to find out what actually happened. This is quite a sensitive matter.”

Meanwhile, Senior BJP leader Rahul Sinha extended his support to the West Bengal Governor adding that he took the right decision. He said, “I think Governor Bose has taken the right decision. He should have taken this decision long back. I fully support him for this.”

Mamata Banerjee objects to oath-taking ceremony at the Raj Bhavan, alleges women afraid of visiting it

Notably, West Bengal Governor and CM Mamata Banerjee-led TMC have been at loggerheads with each other for some time. However, the recent row erupted on Thursday (27th June) when CM Banerjee accused Governor Bose of creating obstruction in the oath-taking ceremony of two MLAs of her party who recently won the by-polls. While raising an objection about Raj Bhavan being the venue for the oath-taking ceremony, CM Banerjee alleged that women were apprehensive about their safety at the Raj Bhavan.

Addressing an administrative meeting in the state secretariat, Banerjee said, “Nearly a month has passed but my MLAs – Sayantika Bandyopadhyay and Rayat Hossain Sarkar – are unable to take oath. The Governor is obstructing them from doing so. It is the people who have elected them, not the Governor. He cannot deny them the right to take oath.”

She objected to Raj Bhavan being the venue for the oath-taking ceremony and alleged that women were afraid of visiting the Raj Bhavan.

She added, “Why must everyone go to Raj Bhavan? The Governor can authorise the Speaker or Deputy Speaker, or attend the Assembly himself. Women have informed me they are afraid to visit Raj Bhavan due to recent incidents reported there.”

Her allegations come in the backdrop of a complaint filed by a contractual woman employee of the Raj Bhavan employee who made molestation allegations against the Governor on 2nd May. Subsequently, the Kolkata Police initiated a probe into her allegations.

Governor Bose had invited the TMC MLAs for an oath-taking ceremony at the Raj Bhavan

Earlier, Governor Bose had invited both the TMC MLAs to take oath at the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday. However, they declined the invitation. The TMC leaders claimed that as per the convention, the governor assigns the speaker or the deputy speaker to administer the oath to MLAs who register a victory in by-polls. But the governor refused to hold the event in the state assembly and went to New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon.

Following the development, Baranagar MLA Sayantika Bandyopadhyay and Bhagabangola MLA Rayat Hossain Sarkar staged a dharna in front of the BR Ambedkar statue in the West Bengal Vidhan Sabha complex. The TMC MLAs demanded that the Governor should enable them to perform their duties as legislators and facilitate their oath-taking ceremony in the state assembly.

The Times of India insinuates that Indian army officers asked for ‘sexual favours’ from Kargil war widows, changes clickbait headline after outrage

On Thursday (27th June), ‘The Times of India’ suggested that Indian army officers had sought sexual favours from the wives of soldiers, who were martyred during the Kargil War of 1999.

The popular Indian English daily made such an insinuation through an article’s clickbait headline, which goes as ‘We Kargil widows “were easy targets for officers to satisfy lust”.’

The cunning choice of words, in the headline, suggested that widows of fallen soldiers of the Kargil War were somehow preyed upon by officers within the Indian army to satisfy their lust.

Screengrab of the controversial headline by The Times of India

However, a thorough reading of the article makes it clear that those who solicited sexual favours from the victims were not army officers but employees at government offices.

According to The Times of India, a 60-year-old woman named Indu Singh faced harassment and unwanted sexual advances at government offices for several years instead of support during crisis.

She is the widow of martyred Border Security Force (BSF) Inspector Inderjeet Singh. Singh informed that a government officer in Meerut, had misbehaved with her, out of lust. The accused had even inappropriately touched her with his feet.

Govt officer suspended after intervention of LK Advani

“The officer was given the task of overseeing land allotment for construction of the memorials of martyrs in their respective villages. She says the officer even touched her with his feet when she was sitting in front of him for some help in connection with the allotment,” the report added.

As per the English daily, the said officer was suspended after Indu Singh approached the then Union Home Minister LK Advani in 2001.

The report by The Times of India added, “Following the officer’s inappropriate actions and hearing stories from other war widows about officers’ demeaning attitude towards them, Indu says she decided to approach the then Union home minister LK Advani in 2001 to complain against the officer. It was after Advani’s intervention that the officer was suspended.”

Not an isolated case: Indu Singh

Indu Singh also narrated another incident where an officer at government-owned Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) misbehaved with her as well.

The sexual advances made by officers at government offices included double meaning talks, forcing widows to sit next to them or making them stay late.

She told the Indian English daily, “I was educated and objected to the act on every occasion, but the majority of young widows, who were illiterate and from rural areas without any exposure to the outside world, were harassed.

According to Indu Singh, the government officers regarded widows as “easy targets”. She told The Times of India, “I witnessed a complete lapse of morality during the initial days of widowhood.”

The Times of India changes headline after outrage

As evident from the content of the article, the accusations of sexual harassment levelled by wife of Kargil war martyr Indu Singh were directed towards State government officials and not officers in the Indian army.

However, The Times of India chose to mislead its readers into believing otherwise especially those who may not have the patience to read the article in its entireity. Following social media outrage, the Indian English daily was forced to change its headline.

“We Kargil widows “were easy targets of govt officers’ unwanted advances”,” the new headline of the article read.

While there is no dearth of clickbait articles in Indian media sphere, it was disappointing to see a prominent English daily resort to misleading tactics to grab eyeballs.

5 Indian Army soldiers lost their lives during a tank exercise in Ladakh, T-72 tank swept away by sudden flood caused by cloudburst

Five Indian Army soldiers including one Junior Commissioned Officer and four jawans lost their lives when an Army Tank met with an accident in the Daulat Beg Oldie area in Ladakh on Saturday morning. The accident took place when a T-72 tank was swept away while crossing a river near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Nyoma-Chushul area.

Following the mishap, a rescue operation was immediately launched, and all five bodies were recovered, as confirmed by defence officials. “All five bodies have been recovered”, defence officials said on Saturday.

The incident occurred near Mandir Morh during an exercise around 1 AM on Saturday. The mishap took place due to a sudden increase in water levels of stream when the tank was crossing it during the exercise, said defence officials. The stream suddenly got flooded due to a cloudburst in higher areas.

“There were five soldiers in the tank at the time of the incident, including one Junior Commissioner Officer and four Jawans,” defence officials said. As per initial observations, the defence sources have ruled out sabotage behind the incident.

Union Defence Minister Rajanath Singh expressed his condolences on the incident.

“Deeply saddened at the loss of lives of five of our brave Indian Army soldiers in an unfortunate accident while getting the tank across a river in Ladakh. We will never forget exemplary service of our gallant soldiers to the nation. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. The nation stands firm with them during this hour of grief,” he posted

‘The jump from anti-Brahmin to anti-Hinduism is not much and it often ends at the doors of church or mosque’: J Sai Deepak exposes hatred towards Brahmins

Eminent Supreme Court lawyer and author J Sai Deepak recently called out the anti-Brahmin sentiment that has been in circulation among some elements in the Hindutva fold during the book launch of “Rearming Hinduism: Nature, Hinduphobia, and the Return of Indian Intelligence” by Vamsee Juluri, the video of which was posted on the Sangam Talks YouTube channel on June 27. He highlighted that, as evidenced by current events in states like Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, the demonization of Brahmins frequently breeds animosity toward Hinduism and, ultimately, leads people into the fold of Abrahamic religions. He also warned that it is only going to make Hindus more susceptible to attack from adversaries.

In the event, which was also graced by scientist and author Anand Ranganathan among others, the erudite Supreme Court lawyer said, “I say this bluntly today and I am not going to hold my punches back. You want a textbook example of what happens when you start making the Brahmins the hate figure and from there, they jump to the churches. Not too far, take a look at Punjab. They first decided to vilify the Brahmins in the name of newly minted versions of Khalistanism under the British period. From there they gradually moved towards anti-Hinduism because the jump from there was not much. After that how far do you think is the jump from there to the church or Islam? Throw in drugs and it is over.”

“You are losing a crucial battleground border state. So, I am very clean, keep attacking the Vedic core of the Hindu philosophy in whatever name under rubric under whatever umbrella, you are paving the way for anti-Hinduism at some point or the other. Two more examples are Tamil Nadu and parts of coastal Andhra, Kerala. The jump is not far. Stop vilifying people,” J Sai Deepak further added.

J Sai Deepak highlighted that rather than recognizing those who seek to undermine the Hindu faith, certain Hindutva proponents have been persistently trying to instil hatred within Hindus to foster a semblance of unity in the community and are making allowances for others while abandoning their own. “You can’t say that I am going to unify Hinduism by making one group the punching bag of your positions constantly in the hope that you unify people by creating a hate figure within. You don’t have the guts to create a hate figure outside therefore you are constantly creating a hate figure within. If you had the guts to create a hate figure outside, you would identify the true culprit outside. You don’t want to do that because today you are willing to co-opt the jihadi but alienate the Brahmin. That is a conscious choice that some people have made within the Hindutva fold. That is the conscious choice they have made that we will isolate these groups because we need to accommodate everybody else.”

He further asked, “What vision is this? So, what is the message that you are sending to people who subscribe to the rules of the Veda? Answer the question first because the Vedic Sanatan Dharma happens to be the core of Hindu Dharma for all practical purposes. The epicentre of this entire portion that is being created. So what are you telling those institutions? Are you asking us to leave this country? If it is, then how different are you from the Naxalites, Maoists or Jihadis? This question needs to be answered.”

He cautioned that the people on the ground bear the brunt of anti-Brahmin prejudices. Additionally, he denounced the detractors of Brahmins for denigrating the centuries-old “Varna-ashram Dharma” which is founded on the Vedas, by using the pretext of untouchability. He even dubbed such individuals as “moles” who want to damage Hinduism. The counsel conveyed, “This is the most raging internal debate that needs to be addressed because this virus has infected our ideology and the discussion is not happening in the places where it has to happen as people are taking pot-shots while sitting in their ivory towers when the price is being paid by the people on the ground. You are inciting people against each other on the ground. In parts of Uttar Pradesh, the biggest threat to Hinduism, especially in the state is going to come from Chandrashekhar Azad.”

He added, “You take it from me. It is going to come from that gentleman and people sitting here will co-opt even him in the name of Hindu unity and alienate everybody else. Wait for this to happen. This is the direction in which we are hurtling at this point. In the process, you don’t have what it takes to create knowledge. You have not preserved anything. You will destroy, spew and spit on everything that has been created for millennia. So, my answer is very clear, my positions on this subject are not at loggerheads with Hindu dignity and Hindu unity, they are not. If you constantly want to use untouchability as the touchstone for every position on Varna-ashram Dharma, I am sorry to say you must be treated as an insider-outsider or a mole or a trojan which is even worse than the outsider.”

Bihar: Commerce graduate Social media influencer Isha leaves husband and child for 6th fail cyber fraud Mustak Alam; duo arrested for duping people of Rs 5 crore

On 25th June, the Cyber Police arrested two cyber criminals including a girl from Patna for duping people to the tune of Rs 5 crore in the past six months. The accused duo were receiving a 10% commission for each fraud and they had links to Pakistan, as per the police. As per reports, the accused girl identified as Isha (23) is a B. Com graduate who used to make reels on Instagram. A few years ago, she left her in-law’s house and a few-month-old boy. Soon after, she came in contact with Mustak Alam, identified as Nestak Alam in some Hindi media reports, while making reels.

Mustak Alam (24), who was active in cyber criminal activities for more than 4 years, developed a friendship with her and roped her into the world of cyber crime.

The accused Mustak Alam is a resident of Jawkatia village while Isha Kumari is a resident of Naurangia village. Both accused were operating from Patna.

Isha left her in-law’s house around 1.5 years ago after which she took to the path of crime to make a living. However, due to some disputes, she left her in-law’s house and then left her toddler son with her mother in Naurangia village. Her son lives with her Nani and Isha’s siblings – 2 brothers and one sister.

According to Katihar Police sources, Isha and Nestak (Mustak) have been living together for more than a year. During this time, Mustak made Isha an expert in ATM fraud

Isha used to wait in ATM lines and on the pretext of helping unaware ATM users, she used to exchange customers’ ATM cards and later used to make transactions from the real cards. She also used to call as needed and scam people on some pretext or other.

It is pertinent to note that in the Champaran district of Bihar, a few Panchayats like Jawkatia, Lal Saraiya, and Ramnagar Bankat have been on the radar of probing agencies as youth from these areas are notorious for being involved in cyber crimes. As per reports, ED, IT, and NIA have raided several places in these areas. A majority of cyber frauds have been arrested from Jawkatia. As per Bettiah Police sources, over 50 youths have been arrested from Jawkatia.

As per the Police, around 700 to 1000 youth from the village are involved in cyber crimes. 24-year-old Mustak is a resident of Jawkatia Purana tolla. Four years ago, sixth-fail Alam used to work as an electrician in Bettiah when he came in contact with cyber criminals in his native village. Through them, he made contact with Pakistani networks.

Official Police response

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Cyber Cell, Katihar Police, Saddam Hussain said that they were tracking the cyber fraudsters through technical surveillance.

Cyber Police Station Head said that during the interrogation, the duo admitted to having direct contact with the neighbouring country. He added, “They carried out these fraudulent activities through audio and video calls from Multan, Pakistan. They also gave details of more than a dozen Pakistani bank passbook.”

He added, “We came to know about them while probing a cheating case registered at the cyber police station in Katihar in November 2023. They were operating from Patna’s Kadam Kuan locality. Accordingly, we conducted a raid and arrested the accused.”

The police said that handlers from across the border used to deposit between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 3 lakh into the duo’s accounts every day. They took their share and deposited the remaining amount into several bank accounts in Pakistan. They used WhatsApp to communicate with criminals in Pakistan.

Hussain added the duo arrested from Patna were in contact with around 20 cyber frauds from Pakistan. They fetched details of over 100 bank accounts from them. The Pakistan-based cyber frauds gave them Rs 15000 and Rs 10000 corresponding to each account in SBI or other banks respectively.

The Pakistani cyber criminals used to ask them to divert money into several bank accounts whose ATM and details were with cyberfrauds sitting in Patna. After getting money, Pakistanis used to give them confirmation through WhatsApp. The frauds in Patna used to charge 10% commission while the rest were sent to Pakistan.

So far, they have transferred around Rs 5 crore in CDM (Cash Deposit Machine) and through Hawala to Pakistani cyber frauds in the last 5 months.

Police recovered 16 ATM cards, 6 mobile, and 6 Sims from their possession. According to the Police, they were connected with cyber frauds from Jamtara, Nabada, Bhopal, and Mumbai.

The DSP said, “From the confiscated mobile phones and ATM cards, evidence of transactions totaling crores of rupees has been discovered. It has also come to our notice that hundreds of bank accounts, Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, over 100 banking QR codes, and several cellphone numbers are linked to Pakistan.”
