Andhra Pradesh: After outrage, YS Jaganmohan Reddy reinstates the award in name of former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam

Following backlash over renaming of an award, the Andhra Pradesh government has now decided to immediately cancel the earlier government order to rename the ‘Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Pratibha Puraskar Awards’ in the memory of Andhra Pradesh CM Jaganmohan Reddy’s late father YS Rajashekhar Reddy.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has directed to cancel his government’s earlier order and further ordered to reinstate the name of former President APJ Abdul Kalam for ‘Pratibha Puraskar Awards’.

Earlier on Monday, the Andhra Pradesh government led by YS Jaganmohan Reddy had decided to rename an award named after former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam in the memory of Jaganmohan Reddy’s father YS Rajasekhara Reddy. It was reported that “Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Pratibha Puraskar Awards” was to be renamed as “YSR Vidya Puraskars” from this year onwards.

The awards, which are supposed to distributed to meritorious students in the state was decided to now be named after the Congress leader instead of former President APJ Abdul Kalam. The awards will be distributed on the occasion of National Education Day, the birth anniversary of India’s first education minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, on 11th November.

BBC and Jansatta spread fake news, paint Congress linked outfit supporting stubble burning as RSS linked

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has come up with yet another fake news, by falsely linking a farmers’ organisation with the RSS. In a report published by BBC Hindi on the stubble burning that is causing massive pollution in North India, they mentioned that Bharatiya Kisan Union is associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which is not correct. BBC Hindi mentioned this lie in a report quoting Jansatta, and the Jansatta report also mentions in its headline that BKU is related with RSS.

BBC
BBC report saying BKU is part of RSS
BKU
Jansatta report saying BKU is part of RSS

The report states that Bharatiya Kisan Union has said that they have no other option other than burning stubble if they don’t receive a subsidy from the government. The union says that the farmers will stop burning the husk left in the file after harvesting paddy only after they receive ₹200 per quintal as a bonus or financial assistance to take alternate measures to dispose of the stubble. Along with this, BKU is demanding the release of farmers arrested by Punjab government for burning stubble which illegal as per law. The union also said that it is unhappy over the Supreme Court order banning stubble burning.

At the end of the short report, BBC Hindi adds, ‘it may be noted that Bharatiya Kisan Union is an organisation related to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’. But this is a lie, because the farmers’ organisation associated with RSS is Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), not the BKU. Although they have similar names, they are completely different organisations. BKU was set up by well-known farmer leader late Mahendra Singh Tikait, and currently, the organisation is led by his son Naresh Tikait.

Read: The BBC research on ‘fake news’ is shoddy, unethical, dishonest, and actually an example of fake news

BKU has no relation with the RSS, and in fact, RSS affiliated farmers’ organisation BKS does not agree with BKU in many cases. Last year Bharatiya Kisan Sangh had stayed away from the farmers’ protests led by Bharatiya Kisan Union. BKS had said that they can’t align with BKU as they have made their political ambitions clear.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, Bharatiya Kisan Union had announced support for Congress party. BKU national president S. Bhupinder Singh Mann had said that they had decided to support Congress after evaluating the manifestos of both BJP and Congress. BKU is associated with All India Kisan Coordination Committee (KCC), which had also supported the Congress party in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Former Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Raj Babbar had attended a BKU rally in September 2018 in Lucknow, and as per media reports, he did it as per instructions of then party president Rahul Gandhi.

This clearly shows that BKU maintains a close association with the Congress party, but sections of media is hiding that fact and linking them with RSS in an attempt to defame RSS, as BKU is refusing to stop burning stubble.

United Kingdom: As Labour Party takes anti-India stand, Indian diaspora to campaign for Conservatives in December 2019 elections

In an unprecedented development, which could have massive ramifications on the future of global politics, especially the United Kingdom, the Indian diaspora in Britain have decided to actively campaign for the incumbent Conservative Party in the UK general election.

With Labour Party taking an anti-India stand, the Indian diaspora is all set to reject them electorally in the upcoming elections, which could set up a new template for future elections in many countries.

According to the reports, the Indian diaspora and mainly the BJP supporters have decided to put their weight behind the Boris Johnson led Conservative party also known as the ‘Tories’ in the 48 marginal seats that go to polls on December 12. The Indian groups are campaigning for the ruling party and asking people belonging to Indian-origin voters not to vote for the Labour party.

The British Indian vote has the ability to decide the outcome of nearly 40 seats in the upcoming elections and could be a gamechanger if they vote en masse for one single party in the UK elections.

Kuldeep Singh Shekhawat, the UK President of Overseas Friends of BJP, said that his group had identified 48 Labour-Conservative marginal seats in which the British Indian vote could play a decisive role. He further stated that the Indian diaspora group is trying to oust six Indian-origin Labour MPs.

“We are doing this for three reasons. Firstly, some Labour MPs joined the violent protests outside India House on August 15 and September 3. Secondly, no Labour MPs spoke in favour of India in the House of Commons on Kashmir, and thirdly because of the Labour motion on Kashmir passed at their party conference. Kashmir is an internal matter of India. Why is the Labour party discussing the Indian state? We will only support MPs who support us,” Shekhawat said.

Shekhawat added that the diaspora is working with the Tory candidates in Keith Vaz’s ex seat, Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi’s seat, Preet Gill’s seat, Lisa Nandy’s seat, Seema Malhotra’s and Valerie Vaz’s seats, he said. All six are Indian-origin Labour MPs.

He added that the Indian groups will not be supporting the Labour MPs because some of them have a Khalistani tag and are not doing anything for India or looking at India as a sovereign nation. “Some of them have signed letters against India. We will happily support anyone who supports India as a sovereign nation, including non-Indian origin candidates, against these candidates,” Shekhawat said.

Prominent Pakistan-origin people associated with the Labour Party in the UK were also part of anti-India protests where Pakistanis attacked the Indian High Commission in the UK in September 2019 on abrogation of Article 370 in J&K.

“If the entire Indian community in the UK votes Tory, we will see a swing of around 40 seats to the Tories. This will swing the actual election result,” he declared.

This is the first time the OFBJP has ever extended open support for a party in a UK general election. The Indian diaspora campaign against the Labour Party comes as a response for its anti-India stand of the Labour party. On September 25, the Labour Party had passed a resolution that supported “international intervention in Kashmir and a call for UN led-referendum.”

The resolution passed by the Labour party had asked Corbyn to meet the high commissioners of both India and Pakistan to ensure there is “mediation” and restoration of peace and normality to prevent a potential nuclear conflict. The Labour party’s stand on Kashmir is contrary to India’s position on Kashmir. India has categorically told the international community that its move on Kashmir was an internal matter. India maintains Kashmir is a bilateral issue and no third party has any role in it.

Interestingly, the Indian community in Britain till now never voted as a bloc, unlike the Pakistan community, which is directed by imams on how to vote. With Labour party trying to meddle in India’s internal affairs, the OFBJP is approaching temples, social groups, and hundreds of Asian community bodies to tell them not to vote Labour. “We have met 37 groups so far and organised meetings in all the possible temples,” Shekhawat said.

According to Shekhawat, the British-Indian group will be supporting just one Labour PIO MP, Virendra Sharma, who represents Ealing Southall, as he had stood up for the community.

He added that not a single Hindu will vote for Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi as Hindu voters think he is working closely with the Pakistani community. “He is always seen with Pakistanis and goes to the Pakistan high commission. He is a vice-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Britain-Pakistan Trade and Tourism and was vice-chair of the APPG Kashmir group. Why is that? The Indian community in Slough are annoyed and have decided to vote for the Tory candidate,” Shekhawat said.

The OFBJP UK President said that they have a team in each constituency which is going around with the Tory candidate leafleting, speaking to people and persuading them to vote Tory. The teams are organised by the BJP and Friends of India Society International (FISI), he added.

“Until December 2018 the majority of Indians supported Labour. But in the last seven to eight months Labour has shown a radical face. With Corbyn at the head, Labour is opposed to anything India wants to do and Corbyn never speaks good about India. Kashmir was the flashpoint. But anger was building up for months,” Shekhawat said.

Reportedly, the OFBJP has already organised their first campaign meeting and invited 300 Indian-origin constituents on Sunday to a meeting with Tory MP Bob Blackman from Harrow East who has a majority of just 1,757 above Labour. They also had a meeting with Dr Anwara Ali who is standing for the Tories in Harrow West, which currently has a Labour MP with a majority of 13,314.

Modi Government secures release of four Indian nationals abducted by Arakan Army in Myanmar, one died during detention

The Indian government has secured the release of five Indian nationals including an individual who died in captivity, who were abducted by the Arakan Army in Myanmar. The Indian nationals were taken into captivity by a Rakhine insurgent group called the Arakan Army in Myanmar while they were travelling there to work on a road project in the northern part of Myanmar’s Rakhine State.

Reportedly, the Indian nationals who are released are identified as Vijay Kumar Singh (48), Nangshanbok Suiam (47), Rakesh Sharma (64) and Ajay Kothiyal (50).

On November 3, five Indian nationals, along with a Myanmar MP, two local transporters and one speedboat operators were abducted by insurgent group Arakan Army on way from Paletwa to Kyauktaw in Rakhine province of Myanmar.

During the abduction, a 60-year-old Indian national had died in the custody of Arakan Army, ethnic rebels in Myanmar. According to reports, the Indian national who died has been identified as Vinoo Gopal, who was working as a construction advisor.

The released Indian nationals, along with the body of the deceased, have reached Sittwe in Myanmar and will be leaving for Yangon in Myanmar on Tuesday for onward journey to India.

Reportedly, the Indian Embassy in Myanmar was monitoring the situation and is expected to extend all necessary assistance to the Indian nationals and also arrange for repatriation of Gopal’s body.

However, a member of the rebel outfit said that Indians were “not kidnapped”. “Our forces found five Indians and two translators when they stopped two speed boats for normal checking for security in Kaladan river. We have nothing to do with Indians. So we planned to release them since yesterday evening,” said a member of the Arakan Army.

The Arakan Army in its statement said it was not against development projects which benefit the locals but those travelling in violence-hit Rakhine should inform the outfit.

It also said it is “deeply sorry for Mr Vinoo Gopal’s death.” The statement claimed Gopal died during detention and blamed the death on his health issues including diabetes and heart problems.

Complaint filed with child rights body against actor Swara Bhasker for calling a 4-year-old child actor from South India ‘chu**ya’

Legal Rights Protection Forum, an NGO, has filed a legal complaint against National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) for racist and abusive comments against a four-year-old child actor from South and referring to him as ‘chu**ya’.

Legal complaint filed to NCPCR against Swara Bhasker for referring to 4-year-old child actor as ‘chu**a’

In the letter addressed to the Chairperson of NCPCR, Legal Rights Protection Forum talks about the abusive language used against children by Swara in the YouTube show ‘Son of Abish’ hosted by ‘comedian’ Abish Mathew. The NGO points out the crass language used by Swara for a child actor from a particular region (South India). The NGO states that Bhasker made racist and discriminatory statements along with abusive comments against the children from Southern part of India.

In the clip that has gone viral on social media, Swara is describing one of her initial ad shoots about a soap where against her expectations of appearing in a dreamy sequence she was confronted with a four-year-old child actor. When the child called her ‘aunty’, Bhasker, in her head, called the child ‘chu**ya’ even as the audience erupted in laughter. “Children are basically evil, right?” she says while the host of the show Abish, agrees.

The complaint further states that the Constitution of India under Article 15 prohibits discrimination on the grounds of race, caste, sex, descent, place of birth or residence. The complaint even states the United Nations Convention of Child Rights which speaks about rights of a child against any discrimination.

“One could immediately sense the underlying implicit and unconscious bias in the supposedly ‘funny’ video that too from a person who is widely regarded as popular by a section of Indian media,” the complaint states adding that such language sets a wrong precedent across India portraying children from South India in negative picture.

The Legal Rights Protection Forum has further asked that the platforms such as Hotstar, Twitter and YouTube remove the content and take strict action against Swara Bhasker.

NYTimes columnist Aatish Taseer displays Hinduphobia in full glory, speaks the language of the very Islamists who killed his father

When Pulwama terrorist blew up the SUV that killed 40 CRPF personnel in February this year, he referred to Indians as ‘gaae ka peshab peene wale’ (cow urine drinkers). ‘Cow urine drinker’ jibe has been long used by people to mock Hindus even though it echoes the language used by terrorists. Latest to join in is NY Times columnist Aatish Taseer.

Read: Aatish Taseer toes the Radical Islamic line, says ‘ordinary muslims’ should organize and they do not need ‘peace’

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Taseer mocked Central Government’s plans to redesigning the Central Secretariat by saying that once Indian buildings are taken care of the government can convert the Westminster into an institute for the study of ‘cow urine’ or the US Capitol into museum of aviation during vedic period.

He was confronted by BJP leader Nandita Thakur who suggested that research may be done to prove that cow urine may help in curing cancer.

He was then suggested that instead of mocking Hindus with cow urine jibe, he should monetize it by inventing cow urine cocktail.

To that, Taseer dragged in columnist Shefali Vaidya and said how he would like to see Vaidya ‘splashing about in a puddle of cow urine’ like ‘cleopatra of gaumutra’ or ‘whatever the f*ck it is’.

Last month, Taseer, whose own Pakistani politician father Salman Taseer, was killed by his own bodyguard, a radical Islamist because he opposed blasphemy law, had suggested that ‘ordinary Muslims’ should abandon peace and they ‘need to organise’. He said that ‘ordinary Muslims’ shouldn’t be caught off-guard.

More specifically, the senior Taseer opposed the death penalty for Asia Bibi who was sentenced to death for an alleged act of blasphemy. Taseer was putting for this views to get ordinary Muslims to ‘organise’ following the death of Hindu Samaj Party leader Kamlesh Tiwari who was murdered by Islamists for his alleged remarks on Prophet Muhammed.

Aatish Taseer had suggested that ‘ordinary Muslims’ should organize not in pursuit of peace but in response to people blaspheming about the prophet of Islam on social media. Despite his father being murdered by Jihadis, Taseer appears to think hashtags on Twitter are the real problem here.

And now, Taseer is busy spouting the same venom Jihadis and Hinduphobes use to target Hindus, some of who are paying for it with their lives, like Kamlesh Tiwari.

Unfortunately, Taseer isn’t the only one who has been going on spouting venom against Hindus and displaying their Hinduphobia in all glory.

Former MP and journalist Shahid Siddiqui chimed in and said how all problems will be solved by bathing with ‘gobar’, drinking cow urine and by performing yagna.

Following the death of ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi who detonated his suicide vest following a US raid, Siddiqui had said how it was Muslims who killed Baghdadi’s ideology despite the fact that radical Islam continues to thrive. In fact, following Kamlesh Tiwari’s assassination, Siddiqui along with others was involved in an attempt to deflect attention from the perils of radical Islamic terrorism and accusing the ‘Hindutva brigade’ of hatred.

Inputs from RSS and farmers association stopped Modi govt from being a part of RCEP, world’s largest free trade agreement

On Monday, the Indian government announced that it will not be part of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership or RCEP, which will be the world’s largest free trade pact of 16 nations.

In his address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said the present form of the RCEP Agreement “does not fully reflect the basic spirit and the agreed guiding principles” or India’s concerns.

PM Modi had cited the interests of farmers, traders, professionals, industries and workers, who have a stake in such decisions. He said, “When I measure the RCEP Agreement with respect to the interests of all Indians, I do not get a positive answer. Therefore, neither the Talisman of Gandhiji nor my own conscience permits me to join the RCEP”.

However, the biggest opposition to the RCEP deal with the ASEAN and its five other free-trading partners did not arrive from any political party. The serious opposition from BJP’s ideological mentor – Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), along with various other bodies, who had vehemently expressed reservations about the deal, made Modi government to alter its position with regards to the proposed free trade agreement.

Read: Days after Piyush Goyal reassured that interests of India will be protected, Modi reinforces that by not joining RCEP as key concerns were not addressed

Though industries and traders had mixed opinion on whether India should join the largest free-trade initiative, the farmer associations and the Sangh’s affiliates, especially Swadeshi Jagran Manch were categorically opposed to the signing of any such deals which could harm India’s interest. In fact, the inputs given by the Sangh and various other bodies acted as enablers for Modi government to pull out from the RCEP, which would have given free-access of Indian markets to countries like China.

The RSS and its affiliates had cautioned against yielding too much in the trade deal especially with the domestic industry itself actually becoming a handicap for Indian negotiators. The other key drawback has been to use the RCEP as an opportunity to seek market access with China, with which India has a huge trade deficit and which has always fobbed off India’s requests in the past.

Sangh Parivar’s opposition to RCEP:

Sangh Parivar affiliates have been constantly opposing India’s joining the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), a proposed free trade zone of 10 south-east Asian nations and six big trading partners in the area.

Since from the beginning, Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) an affiliate of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, requested the government to stay away from RCEP, and always alerted the ills coming in the way. In October, the SJM had announced a 10-day nationwide protest against the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

The announcement by the SJM came just three days after Mohan Bhagwat, the Sarsanghchalak of RSS, the ideological parent of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), spoke about promoting swadeshi in his annual Dusshera speech and also cautioned the government against rushing into the deal. In his speech, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had emphasised on upholding Swadeshi consciousness and steps to improve the economy by creating employment.

Read: All you wanted to know about the RCEP, the trade deal forming the world’s largest economic block

According to the SJM, the RCEP would have undone various good works done by the NDA government under Modi in the last six months. The agreement would have killed the ‘Make In India’, ‘Digital India’, ‘Skill India’ and various other avenues of job creation, the Sangh’s economic wing said.

“The free trade agreements (FTAs) India has signed in the last decade play a major role by allowing cheap imports and hollowing out of Indian manufacturing. In 2018-19, India had a trade deficit with 11 of the 15 RCEP negotiating countries. In the previous year, India had a USD 104 billion trade deficit with RCEP countries and more than half of this was with China,” said Ashwini Mahajan, co-convener of SJM.

Following the protest from the RSS affiliates, BJP organisation general secretary BL Santosh had chaired a meeting of various stakeholders on the issue of India becoming a member of RCEP.

Sangh affiliates like Swadeshi Jagran Manch and bodies engaged in dairy, agriculture and manufacturing sectors like steel and telecom fear that countries like China, Australia and New Zealand will ruin these businesses and create unemployment. The matter was flagged during the meeting convened by Santosh and BJP spokesperson Gopal Agarwal on Monday evening.

Those opposed to RCEP maintain that China would dump its goods in India and the steep fall in prices will impact the indigenous industry, leading to increasing unemployment and losses.

On Monday, following the withdrawal from the RCEP, the SJM issued a statement thanking the Narendra Modi government. “Staying away from RCEP is a decision in favour of the country’s small businesses, farmers, dairy, data security and manufacturing sector. SJM thanks PM Modi for showing great diplomatic farsightedness in terming the present text of the negotiations not in favour of people of India,” the statement said.

Farmers and Allied sectors:

Similarly, farmers associations like All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC), a coalition of over 250 farmer organisations in the country, had planned a nationwide protest and warned the government against going ahead with the inclusion of agriculture in the RCEP free trade agreement.

As the Modi government decided not to join the RCEP, the industry, traders and farmers’ associations appreciated the Modi government’s decision.

Commenting on the move, All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) said that it was happy that “good sense” has prevailed on the government and its decision to barter away the life and livelihood of crores of farmers, workers, and small businesses, has been averted.

“AIKSCC sincerely hopes that this Government will not try any back-door method of sabotaging the interest of Indian farmers and farm-workers through trade deals,” it said in a statement.

The country’s leading milk supplier Amul described the move as “landmark”. The dairy industry had expressed apprehension that the 16-nation trade pact would severely impact dairy farmers because of cheaper imports from Australia and New Zealand.

Dairy major Amul MD RS Sodhi described the move as “daring” and “landmark” which will protect the interest of 10 crore farmers engaged in the production of milk and related products.

The RCEP is Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership is a proposed free trade agreement between the ten member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and its six FTA partners – China, India, Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

Hi Chiku!

First of all, a very happy birthday! I am sure you have a lot of questions for me about your future. I am sorry but I am not going to answer too many of them. You don’t realise it today but it is more about the journey than the destination. And the journey is SUPER.

What I will tell you is that life has big things in store for you Virat. But you need to be ready for each and every opportunity that comes your way. Grab it when it comes. And never take what you have for granted. You will fail. Everyone does. Just promise yourself that you will never forget to rise. And if at first you don’t, try again.

I know he can seem strict at times. But that’s because he wants the best for you. You feel that our parents don’t understand us sometimes but remember this – only our family loves us unconditionally. Love them back, respect them and spend all the time you can, with them.
