Kerala: Police send back 10 women between ages of 10 to 50 who had travelled from Andhra Pradesh to desecrate Sabarimala shrine

The Kerala police have sent back 10 women between the ages of 10 to 50 who had travelled from Andhra Pradesh to Kerala to wilfully desecrate the Sabarimala shrine. The Sabarimala temple is scheduled to open today in the evening for the Mandala Pooja festival.


Two days after the Supreme Court deferred the verdict on the Sabarimala issue, the holy shrine Lord Ayappa in Sabarimala opens today for the annual Mandala Pooja festival.

The Sabarimala Temple has been under siege after activists had decided to desecrate the temple. The Supreme Court recently had bundled a bunch of cases including the case of women’s entry into Sabarimala along with cases against female genital mutilation and the entry of women into Mosques and referred it to a larger 7-judge bench.

As the Sabarimala shrine opens today for the 41-day annual pilgrimage season, the Kerala government had already clarified that the shrine is no place for activism and the women devotees hoping to enter the temple will not be given police protection. In a statement on Friday, Kerala Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran said that women seeking protection to visit the shrine will have to get a court order. “This (Sabarimala shrine) is not a place for activism. This is not a place for activists like Trupti Desai to show their strength. We won’t take them in. Let them go get a court order,” he said.

Reacting to the Supreme Court verdict, controversial ‘activist’ Trupti Desai on Thursday had said that women should be allowed entry into the temple till a seven-judge Supreme Court bench delivers the verdict on the issue.

The controversial activist had also ‘vowed’ to offer prayers at the shrine when it opens for worship this year.

The entry of women of menstruating age (between the ages of 10 to 50) is disallowed in the Sabarimala temple. This tradition arises from the fact that Lord Ayyapa is a Naishtika Brahmachari.

‘Journalist’ Ali Sohrab arrested by UP Police for his hate-filled comments against Kamlesh Tiwari who was hacked to death by Islamists

Journalist Ali Sohrab, who is infamous for sharing objectionable and bigoted content on his Twitter page, has been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police from Delhi and transit remand has been granted to the police to take him to Lucknow.


An FIR had been lodged against Sohrab at Hazratganj, Lucknow for uploading repugnant posts following the murder of Hindu samaj founder Kamlesh Tiwari. In a joint operation with the Delhi police, the Uttar Pradesh police arrested Sohrab under sections 295A, 295B, 66, 67 IT act and he is being taken to Lucknow after securing his transit remand.

The Uttar Pradesh police had registered a complaint against ‘journalist’ Ali Sohrab for his inflammatory posts after Tiwari’s gruesome murder by Islamists. In his tweet, Ali Sohrab went on to wish the deceased Kamlesh Tiwari on the occasion of Diwali despite knowing that he is not alive anymore.

Ali Sohrab’s attempts to incite and spew venom against Hindus had not stopped there. He had even threatened journalist Rohit Sardana and his child by saying he will pray for Sardana and his kid that someday in the future, Sardana’s kid should experience the ‘hatred’ caused due to Hindu-Muslims tensions. He was implying that Sardana had been instrumental in spreading hatred between the two communities. Following his hateful behaviour, the Uttar Pradesh police had registered a complaint against Ali Sohrab for inflammatory messages.

Sohrab had been continuously indulging in sharing fake and inciteful posts on his social media pages. In September, following the abrogation of Article 370 by the centre, Sohrab had tried to pass off an old image of two army men cleaning a pool of blood on a road as a recent one. He shared the misleading image implying that it was taken during the ongoing situation in Kashmir.

Rajasthan: Congress govt allocates Rs 1.88 crore to Madarsas after claiming that Modi govt has not released funds

The Congress government in Rajasthan led by Ashok Gehlot has sanctioned Rs 1.88 crore for Madarsas in the state after the central government under Prime Minister stopped funding to Madarsas.

According to reports, the Rajasthan government claimed that the centre was supposed to grant them Rs 9 crore for the functioning of nearly 3240 Madarsas in the state. Reportedly, as the centre did not release any funds, the Rajasthan government decided to fund them as Madarsas are on the verge of being closed in the state.

Saleh Mohammad, Minister of the State for Minority Affairs in Rajasthan government, claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not fulfil his promise of taking every community together by referring to the PM’s call for winning everyone’s trust – Sabka Vishwas. He further said the decision to stop the grant of Madrasas is directly affecting the education of Muslim children.

“All the tall promises made by the Centre and PM Narendra Modi for helping the minorities have failed. I would like to thank Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot for providing Rs 1.88 crore as a grant for Madarsas,” said Saleh Mohammad.

The funds provided by the state government will be spent on the development and maintenance of Madarsas. The funds are being allocated under the Madarsa Modernization Scheme. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will also write a letter urging the central government to continue with the grant for Madarsas.

The Centre had announced its plan to bring Madrasa under the ambit of the formal education system of the country. The Centre had announced that it would provide a grant of Rs 5,000 at the primary level and Rs 8,000 per Madrasa at upper primary level.

In June this year, PM Narendra Modi-led BJP government announced scholarships for over 5 crore students from minority community including 50 per cent girls, in the next five years. Making the announcement, Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi had said that government will provide for pre-matric, post-matric, and professional and technical course studies.

The “students” from Jawaharlal University (JNU) are protesting the hike in hostel prices. While earlier, the protestors had clashed with the police, now a video has emerged where these “students” can be seen manhandling a Zee News reporters and making lewd remarks against her.


ABP journalist Vikas Bhaduria tweeted a video on November 16th where one can see JNU “students” manhandling the reporter. The reporter in questions is one Pooja. Bhaduria tweeted saying that the video was shameful. He questioned what sort of education is being imparted in JNU that taught the students to manhandle female journalists, hit them and attack them. He also demanded that the students who attacked the journalist should be rusticated.

In the beginning of the video, one can be lewd ‘students’ remarking to other students to let the reporter be so they can ‘maza lo’. When the reporter questions one the students, he says that if she stays, then “hum baitha ke mazaa lenge”.

Then, amidst chants of “Zee News murdabad” and “Hindi media murdabad”, rather middle-aged ‘students” can be seen manhandling the reporter.

Then one can see students demanding that the cameras be shut off. The ‘students’ told the reporter to get out. “Nikaliye yaha se” they said after manhandling her and shouting at her. After that, ‘students’, even joined by women, started chanting ‘bhaag Zee News bhaag’.

Towards the end of the video tweeted by Vikas Bhaduria, one can see snippets of JNU students attacking and manhandling reporters.

The University has introduced fees for utility services like water and electricity on an actual basis, and a fixed charge of ₹1700 per month for services like sanitation, maintenance, cook etc. The room rent also has been increased from ₹20 to ₹600 for single-seater and from ₹10 to ₹300 for double seater. One time security which is refundable also has gone up from ₹5,500 to ₹12,000 and the students have been protesting against it.

As the JNU students protest against the Draft hostel manual that has provisions for the fee hike, curfew timings and dress code restrictions on the students intensified, the administration has announced a ‘major rollback’ in the hostel fee hike and other stipulations said the Ministry of Human Resource Development. JNU, however, called it cosmetic.

It has been two weeks since the JNU Student’s Union (JNUSU) has been conducting protests over the hostel manual. The JNUSU Vice-Chancellor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar had on November 8 alleged that Associate Dean Dr Vandana Mishra was kept in illegal captivity by some students as a part of their protest.

In the ‘roaring’ anti-government protests in Iraq, one of the demonstrators brought along with him a Lion draped in Iraq’s national flag, apparently to battle out dogs deployed by the police to subdue the protests.


A video of the handler bringing a lion on the streets of Baghdad is doing the rounds on the Internet. In the now viral video that is embedded in the above tweet, a handler can be seen with a lion draped in Iraq’s flag can be seen. The lion lunges at a group of onlookers before being restrained by the handler.

The city of Baghdad has witnessed numerous protests in the last month and a half with demonstrators hitting the streets over issues of corruption, unemployment and the dis-functioning state. Violence has accompanied in many protests as the law enforcement authorities have used brute force to quell the protests. This has resulted in hundreds of casualties as the authorities have not shied away from firing live rounds and hurling tear gas shells directly at protesters, along with snapping Internet connection across the nation.

The protesters want the country to usher in a new era with electoral reforms, constitutional amendments and infrastructure legislations. The Iraqi parliament has acknowledged these demands and received a draft of a new electoral law this week. However, it has not been debated yet.

Recognising the resentment among public, Iraq’s current Prime Minister, Adel Abdul Mahdi has assured that he would step down from his post and hold a snap parliamentary election but with a caveat that he would do so only if the parliamentarians found a suitable replacement for him in the interim.

Islamists join AIMIM supporters in trending ‘#IWantMyMasjidBack’ and #IndiaStandsWithOwaisi on Twitter

Reeling under tremendous stress following the Supreme Court’s judgment in the Ram Janmabhoomi case, a resentful Owaisi yesterday took to Twitter to express his disapproval with the verdict. Owaisi tweeted “I want my masjid back”, expressing his discontent with the top court’s verdict granting the contentious land to the Hindu parties for building a Ram Temple over it.

Soon after Owaisi attempted to flare up communal passions, a raft of Islamists on Twitter, inspired by his defiance started sharing their staunch objection to the apex court’s verdict. With total disregard to the authority of Supreme Court, Islamists on Twitter started trending “#IWantMyMasjidBack”.

One Twitter user, Ali Sohrab, who has often normalised bigotry on his Twitter page rued that the Supreme Court on November 9, 2019, “illegally” ordered to build a Ram Temple on the disputed land on the directions of “Terrorist organisation” RSS with the hashtag “IWantMyMasjidBack”.


Mirroring Owaisi’s insubordination of the top court, Sohrab also tweeted that they will neither leave Aksha mosque, nor the Babri masjid.


Another resenting Muslim, Rizwan Maniyar, asserted that Owaisi is the voice of 200 million Indian Muslims who are aggrieved with the court’s decision and exhorted them to trend “#IWantMyMasjidBack” and stand in solidarity with Owaisi.


One Twitter user Sultan Khan, with obvious deficiency in historical knowledge, cited the distorted provenance of the dispute, stating that the Babri masjid was built in 1528, desecrated in 1949 and demolished in 1992, while conveniently hiding the Archaeological Survey of India’s findings that a grand temple existed beneath the mosque and the foundations of the mosque were built from the ruins of that temple.


There were several other tweets that indicated that AIMIM and Owaisi supporters were trending this hashtag, joined by other Muslims on Twitter.


Incidentally, another hashtag that started trending on Twitter was #IndiaStandsWithOwaisi.

There were some who wanted to divisive Owaisi to be awarded with “some prestigious award” for his respect towards the constitution ironically after he rejected the Supreme Court verdict.


These elements were also joined by Islamists who ran a tirade against Hindus.


It is indeed a worrying trend that someone as radical as Owaisi finds mass support among a section of Indian Muslims. Owaisi had in the past threatened Kamlesh Tiwari who was later brutally murdered by Islamists. He had said, “By speaking against Rasalullah, you have invited your own doom”, while threatening Kamlesh with consequences.

In the video, Owaisi could be heard saying whoever dares to speak anything against Rasalullah is haram as per Quran. “Woh zaalim, woh kutta jo Uttar Pradesh mein baith kar Allah ki shaan mein gustakhi kiya, yaad rakh. Tu aaj jail main hai magar duniya tere liye chuhe ki bil ki tarah ban jayegi. (That dog who is sitting in Uttar Pradesh and speaking such things against the Allah, remember. You are safe in jail but the world will become a rat’s hole for you),” Owaisi said.

Owaisi had also displayed his anti-Hindu hate when he had mocked rituals by Hindus in one of his speeches. It is worthy to note here that Owaisi is the brother of Akbaruddin Owaisi who had in 2012 threatened Hindus while saying that if Police is removed for 15-minutes, he would show Hindus their place. He had repeated this same threat in 2019 as well.

Amidst the lament from begrudging Muslims on Twitter demanding their masjid back, it is notable to mention that the Sunni Waqf Board, one of the litigants in the Ram Temple-Babri Masjid dispute case has decided not to challenge the court’s verdict.

Ever since the court pronounced the verdict in the case, assorted liberals and Owaisi have been unceasingly experiencing a prolonged meltdown. Owaisi had blasted off earlier saying that he rejects the court’s judgment and raised aspersions about the Supreme Court by stating, “Supreme Court is Supreme but not infallible”.

Delhi High Court orders removal of ‘unauthorised’ Shiva and Hanuman temples for Chandni Chowk redevelopment plan

On Thursday, the Delhi High Court ordered the removal of an ‘unauthorised’ temples falling in the middle of the Chandni Chowk main road. These unauthorised temples were falling in the middle of the main carriageway in New Delhi’s Chandni Chowk.

According to the reports, the Delhi High Court bench comprised of justices S Murlidhar and Talwant Singh set aside the decision of the Religious Committee of the Delhi government recommending integration of the building in the area’s beautification and redevelopment plan. The Delhi High Court order overrules the stand of the Delhi government’s religious committee which had proposed to integrate the temple into the plan.

The Delhi High Court also slammed Delhi government for its “u-turn” on the removal of the temples, pointing out that the Delhi government had directed the North Delhi Municipal Corporation and Delhi government in 2015 itself to clear encroachments, including the temple that stalled the progress of Chandni Chowk redevelopment project.

During a previous hearing, the government had cited law and order as one reason to retain the edifice, causing hindrance in redevelopment work, and only suggested dismantling of a platform (chabutra) around it.

Reportedly, the religious committee had earlier agreed to follow with the court orders and had even given an undertaking. However, after a series of meetings held last month, the panel advised the architect to include the Hanuman Mandir and Shiva Mandir, both part of the same structure in the re-development plan.

The court was annoyed with the committee for taking a U-turn in the matter as earlier it had recommended removal of the structure. The court has now asked the government to ensure that its order is implemented in eight weeks.

Last week, the bench had sought the presence of the architect with the relevant drawings to explain the new plan proposed by the Delhi government. however, the architect, who had appeared before the court had added that it is not possible to allow the temple to exist at the present site after dismantling the chabutra platform around the structure.

The court direction to remove the unauthorised temple came only after the architect categorically stated that the structure will hamper the carriageway work.

In 2015, while assessing the progress of the pedestrianisation of Chandni Chowk and building of a dedicated Non-Motorised Lane (NMV) in the area, the court had been informed that five unauthorised religious structures were blocking the right of way in Chandni Chowk.

Amnesty indulged in activities prohibited under FCRA: CBI sources on their books of accounts after raids

A day after the Central Bureau of Investigation raided the New Delhi and Bengaluru offices of Amnesty India, news agency ANI citing CBI sources says that the books of accounts of Amnesty India reveal that they indulged in activities which were in violation to the FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act).


CBI sources reportedly told ANI that the activities carried out by Amnesty India were not commensurate to activities of for-profit company. These activities by Amnesty India were allegedly either prohibited or were regulated under the FCRA. The CBI sources further told the news agency that Amnesty International (UK) invested approximately 10 crore as fixed deposit (FD) in Amnesty India Private Limited, Bengaluru, by subscribing to the debt instruments, debentures.

The CBI raid on the alleged human rights organisation came just weeks after a show-cause notice was issued to the organisation by ED. The NGO is accused by ED of violations in borrowing and lending regulations of FEMA to the tune of Rs 51.72 crore for rendering civil society activities in the country by getting remittances from its parent body, Amnesty International UK, in the garb of export of services.

ED’s Bengaluru offices were searched by ED in October last year in connection with its probe in the alleged violation of FDI guidelines and remittances it had received from the parent body. Amnesty director Akar Patel’s residence was also searched by ED at that time.

Abdul Latheef, the father of Fathima Latheef, the IIT-Madras first-year student who committed suicide her hostel room at IIT-Madras on November 9, has alleged that IIT-Madras did not get in touch with the family after his daughter’s death, reports The News Minute.

“IIT did not once get in touch with me following my daughter’s death. There was absolutely no response from the institute, even when we went to collect my daughter’s body,” said Abdul Latheef.

Addressing the media after meeting Tamil Nadu DGP, Fathima’s father Abdul Lateef said that notes taken from his daughter’s mobile phone had named one of her professors as the cause of her death. In fact, Fathima had also named two other professors for driving her to take her own life. He had earlier alleged that she was being discriminated against because of her religion by professor Milind Brahme, who was part of the controversial Ambedkar Periyar Study circle.

“She had mentioned that he was a bad man. She was scared to attend his classes. She did not even go to collect her mark sheet from him. Instead, her friend went and got it for her,” Abdul added.

Abdul blamed Sudarshan Padmanabhan for his daughter’s death and stated that he believed the said professor was prejudiced against Fathima as she had consistently topped all her subjects. He claims to have seen e-mails where the professor (Sudarshan Padmanabhan) had asked her to meet him in order to get the additional 5 marks in his paper where she had scored 13 out of 18 marks. Fathima’s relative claimed that her answer to the 5-mark question was also correct.

Criticising IIT-Madras management, Abdul Lateef said that the principal of the institution had failed to hand over CCTV footage on the day of Fathima’s death, despite agreeing to do so.

On Friday, Abdul had visited Chennai along with other relatives to meet the state DGP seeking an investigation into his daughter’s death. While he expressed confidence in the state police to carry out fair investigation, he condemned IIT-Madras for allegedly washing their hands off the whole incident. He added that Fathima had spoken up earlier about harassment from the professor she had accused in her notes.

Abdul Lateef also met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and called for a proper investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, the death of IIT-Madras student Fathima Lateef has now taken a political turn as Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president MK Stalin on Friday claimed that death of Fathima Lateef was not a suicide as there are many questions around her death.

“The death of IIT Madras student Fathima is not suicide. After interacting with Fathima’s father it is clear that there are many mysteries and questions around her death,” MK Stalin tweeted in Tamil.


Stalin urged the state government to arrest the culprits in the case and ensure that justice is given to the victim.

The Case:

19-year-old Fathima, a humanities student from IIT Madras, committed suicide last week, who reportedly had left a note on her phone accusing her faculties, one of whom is an advisor to the Ambedkar Periyar Study Circle, of harassing her because she was a Muslim.

Fathima, who hailed from Kerala, was pursuing her first-year undergraduate course in the humanities. She was found dead after committing suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan in her hostel room last week.

Fathima Lateef’s death has opened up another controversy after allegations propped up against faculties of the IIT-Madras of harassment, which according to her parents has supposedly led to her suicide. Fathima’s parents alleged that humiliation and caste discrimination by a faculty member had forced their daughter to take the extreme step.

A purported suicide note written by the deceased Fathima on her phone is doing rounds on social media, in which she has blamed three faculties of the IIT-Madras as the reason for ending her life. She had blamed Hemachandran Karah and Milind Brahme for her death.

In an earlier note, the student had also accused Sudarshan Padmanabhan, an associate professor at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Madras.

Professor Milind Brahme is the faculty advisor of the controversial Ambedkar Periyar Study Circle of the IIT Madras. Milind Brahme, who holds his PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi teaches Translation Studies or Comparative Studies at IIT Madras.

The Communist-led Kerala government LDF government had earlier described the verdict of the top court as “very complex” and refused to provide any assistance to women wishing to enter the Sabarimala shrine.

Desai said she was planning to visit Sabarimala in the next few days and added that mere police protection by the Kerala government was insufficient to ensure that women could worship at the Ayyapa shrine in peace.

Welcoming the Supreme Court’s decision, Kanakadurga – one of the two women who were accompanied by Kerala police last year to desecrate the holy Sabarimala shrine, said that verdict was encouraging and wished to go again as she claimed that there was no stay on the September 28 verdict.

On January 2, 2019, two women Bindu and Kanakdurga in their 40s, were accompanied by Kerala police, had entered the Sabarimala shrine at 3.45 am causing massive anger amongst the Hindu devotees.

Meanwhile, the Sabarimala shrine will open on Saturday evening at 5 pm. The Kerala government has heightened up the security around the hill shrine in Pamba, Nilakal and Erumeli with the deployment of more than 10,000 cops. According to Pathanamthitta District Collector, 800 medical staff have been deployed 16 medical emergency centres have been established.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court bench led by CJI Ranjan Gogoi could not come to a conclusive decision in Sabarimala review petitions and referred the case to a larger bench by a 3:2 majority. The Supreme Court had reserved its judgment in the Sabarimala verdict after hearing the review petitions in September this year, challenging the court’s verdict of lifting the ban on women of menstrual age to enter the shrine of Sabarimala.

Hearing the review petitions challenging the 2018 verdict, the Supreme Court had said that the issue of women’s entry into the Sabarimala temple is not just limited to Sabarimala, but to the entry of women into Mosques as well.
