Rotherham paedophiles received half a million pounds in legal aid from public money while their victims remain uncompensated

In a shocking development, it has come to the fore that paedophiles involved in the Rotherham Muslim grooming gang scandal have received legal aid up to £500,000 after raping children as young as 11 years old. Sickeningly, as many as 70 survivors did not receive any compensation at all and dozens of others received as little as £2000.

The paedophiles, the Hussain brothers namely Arshid, Bannaras and Basharat, raped girls as young as 11 years old. They were raped, tied up, tortured and passed around among abusers. Arshid was the ring leader and he was given a 35 year sentence, Bannaras received 19 year sentence and Basharat for 25 years.

Information received via a Freedom of Information request has revealed they were awarded £370,000 in legal aid for their costs in the 2016 crown court trial. Apart from this, they also received monetary aids for hearings in other magistrate courts and family courts, which is estimated to be over £100,000. It is being alleged that they exploited the country’s laws and defrauded the hard-earned money of the British taxpayers.

Shockingly, the rapists pleaded poverty to claim legal aid from taxpayers money despite running large businesses. They own a petrol pump, several restaurants and an egg farm that supplies to supermarkets, and several other properties. It is said that they had ‘owned’ the town for than 10 years. But they were still somehow able to get money to defend their heinous crimes.

Sammy Woodhouse, 34, one of their 50 victims, told Express UK, “This is completely outrageous and immoral. They have probably received 25 per cent more money than what the survivors of their abuse have had in total as compensation.” She added, “Something needs to be put in place to stop these people just laughing at the system and milking the taxpayer dry.”

Woodhouse is currently fighting for a change in the law that requires men, who have impregnated women via rape, to be informed regarding proceedings involving the child. She had approached the Rotherham Council seeking a care order for her son who had become involved in crime and drugs. According to her, the Council shockingly invited Arshid to meet their son despite having raped the child’s mother.

A former youth worker, who helped expose the scandal, said: “I’m totally shocked and horrified. This is terrible. These rapists and abusers are pure evil but they’ve had almost half a million pounds spent on them, yet these poor girls get nothing. It feels like the judicial system is not set up to protect victims of some of the most horrendous crimes of abuse, torture and trafficking this country has ever seen.”

This is not the first time the establishment is seen to take the side of the grooming gang. The crime had started in 1990s and went on for almost two decades, but it was ignored by police and local administration. The police had ignored the reports filed by victims because they feared that they will be accused of racism as all accused were Muslims of Asian origin, mostly from Pakistan. The City Council run by the Labour party was also reluctant to take any action as the perpetrators belong to a community that votes for the party.

Dhoni makes himself unavailable for West Indies Tour, will serve the paramilitary regiment

Just before a day of selection of Indian team cricket for the West Indies tour, the most experienced Indian wicket-keeper MS Dhoni has made himself unavailable for the tour and will serve his paramilitary regiment.

As per the BCCI Official (unnamed source) said that MS Dhoni has asked the selectors for a 2-month break so that he can spend the time with his regiment.

“Dhoni has made himself unavailable for the tour of West Indies as he will be spending two months with his paramilitary regiment,” the official told PTI.

There had been speculation that MS Dhoni would have been selected for the tour in the squad of 15 but not in playing 11 as his role would have been to mentor the youngsters.

MS Dhoni has been criticized for his approach in the middle order and gifting away runs as a keeper. He conceded most runs as a wicket-keeper in World Cup 2019, and his strike rate has been at worse in the last three years.

Despite the average performance, Dhoni had made it clear that he is not sure when will he retire from International cricket.

India’s next home series will start from September 15 against South Africa, and by then two months will be over.

Alwar: Dalit man beaten to death after his bike hits a Muslim woman, family alleges mob lynching by Umar Sher and associates

In Rajasthan’s Alwar district, a Dalit man named Harish Jatav died on Thursday after battling for his life for two days. Harish was allegedly beaten mercilessly by a mob after his bike hurt a Muslim woman in the Fasla village on Tuesday.

As per reports, Harish Jatav from Jhinvana village was passing through the market in Fasla village under Chopanki police station when a Muslim woman, a Hakiman (physician) was hit by his bike.

As per reports, both Harish and the woman were found on the Bhiwadi-Chopanki road. While the woman was taken to the hospital by her family members, Harish was taken to hospital in a critical condition by the police. He was bleeding profusely. Angry locals had reportedly thrashed Harish severely after the accident.

Harish Jatav was first taken to the nearby hospital in Tapukara area. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital. Harish finally died two days later on Thursday. His body was handed over to his family on Friday after postmortem.

Alwar SP Paris Deshmukh, however, has mentioned that there is no evidence to indicate that Harish was lynched by a mob.

The 28-year-old Harish was a truck driver by profession. He is survived by his wife, four daughters and a father who is blind.

Harish’s family have alleged that after his bike hit the woman, Harish was brutally beaten up by a man named Umar Sher and his associates. The family has lodged an FIR under sections 323, 343 and the relevant sections of the SC/ST (prevention of atrocities) Act.

The woman’s husband Jamaluddin has claimed that Harish was drunk and has lodged a complaint under section 279 over the incident. The police stated that investigation has been initiated and until after the detailed post-mortem report has been received they cannot say whether Harish’s death was due to mob-lynching.

West Bengal: ABVP student severely injured in bomb blast done allegedly by TMC goons, hospitalised in critical condition

An ABVP activist was gravely injured after a bomb blast at Kalyani University allegedly perpetrated by goons associated with the Trinamool Congress (TMC). He was initially admitted at J.N.M. Hospital, Kalyani but will be shifted to Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, Kolkata for further treatment. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, we are told.

The injured has been identified as Tarak Howladar, a 19 year old student at the University. He was brought to the hospital at around 8 p.m. on Friday after the bomb blast allegedly done by TMC goons. His condition is said to be extremely critical.

According to Dr. Indranil Khan, vice president of the state unit of ABVP, the victim has lost a lot of blood. There is severe laceration in his left thigh and his femur bone was fractured, Khan stated. He was being shifted to Apollo Gleneagles Hospital in Kolkata for further integrated management under the departments of Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Orthopedics.

The ABVP has planned protests over the bomb blast allegedly by TMC goons at College Street on Saturday. They are expected to issue further statements on the matter in the afternoon.

The law and order situation in West Bengal has been terrible in recent times. Earlier this week, bombs were hurled at Bhatpara, a maternity home was ransacked and 5 crude bombs were recovered from the area. Earlier, two people had died and three were injured in BJP-TMC clashes in the same area.

Political violence in the state continues unabated and BJP workers and supporters are being murdered at a worrying frequency. Even women are not being spared. With circumstances getting worse every day, things don’t appear to be getting better anytime soon.

Aurangabad: Eyewitnesses refute allegations of Muslim man who alleged that he was made to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram’

Imran Ismail Patel, a hotel employee in Aurangabad had yesterday filed a complaint against a group of 10 people alleging that a mob intercepted him while he was returning to his house and forced him to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ following which he was thrashed by them. However, according to the police, the preliminary investigation revealed that the incident is being unnecessarily communalised and the evidence suggests that the scuffle occurred because of personal enmity.

The incident happened around Hudco corner on Thursday night. On his way home from work, he was stopped at Hudco Corner area by eight to ten youths. One of them took the keys to Imran’s motorcycle and asked where he lives. According to Imran, the gang whistled and forced him to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ to speak. When Imran raised reservations about chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’, he was allegedly intimidated and threatened of dire consequences by the mob. Petrified by this, Imran claims he shouted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ thrice in front of them.

However, as per Imran, the mob proceeded to beat him, despite complying to their demands. Meanwhile, disturbed by the ongoing brawl, Ganesh and his wife who lived nearby came out and rescued Imran. After this, Imran went to the Begumpura police station and filed a complaint against the mob.

The police commissioner Chiranjiv Prasad has said that the case has been registered and a probe is launched into the incident. He also added that some people are giving the incident a communal flair but evidence don’t lead in that direction. The eye-witnesses who came to Imran’s rescue have put paid to the claims made by Imran that he was forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Instead, they have asserted that the incident was a result of a personal feud.

When OpIndia contacted Aurangabad Police, they stated that they have registered a complaint against 10 assailants filed by the alleged victim Imran. The police said that the investigation is underway and in the light of the recent claims made by the eye-witnesses, it cannot be claimed with certainty that Imran was forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ by the assaulters.

The case appears similar to that of Unnao madarsa case where Muslim students were injured in a fight over cricket but it was deviously used to claim that they were beaten up for not chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’. It is now increasingly becoming a pattern to attach chanting of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ to seemingly unrelated incidents of violence where Muslims are victims to give it a communal angle and exculpate the victims from any wrongdoing that may have triggered the incident.

Thou shalt smite? Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy calls himself God, says BJP will face ‘judgement day’

Facing imminent defeat in the trust vote that the Congress-JD(S) government is delaying in Karnataka, chief minister HD Kumaraswamy invoked the Bible and compared himself with God. During the debate on the trust vote in the assembly, on Friday the CM warned the BJP of apocalypse for trying to topple his government. He said that his government was formed by God and God will punish BJP if they try to bring it down.

Driving home the allegation that BJP was poaching his MLAs, Kumaraswamy invoked Bible and said, “The only consolation is that there is coming a day when everyone will give an account of their lives as they stand before Almighty God on Judgment Day — with no lawyer, no lies, no façade — just them and true record of their life.”

Reiterating that he became CM due to circumstances, Kumaraswamy credited God for his fortune, saying the post of CM is a gift of God to him. He added that only God can take it way whenever he wants. “I am just a pawn in the game of fate”, he added.

The Judgement Day is a concept found in Abrahamic religions, which says it is the final and eternal judgment by God of every person or society. On this day, Jesus, the Son of God will judge “the living and the dead” before destroying the old heaven and earth, which are corrupted of sin, according to the Bible.

Responding to allegations that his brother and PWD minister HD Revanna was doing black magic to save the government, the CM said that his brother does not start his day without visiting the gods. “Don’t BJP MLAs go to temples where the priests give you the same prasada? I have no qualms in stating that my family and I are God-fearing,” he said.

Azam Khan says Muslims are paying the price of not joining Pakistan after the partition

Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, who recently won the Rampur Lok Sabha seat, has stated that the ‘mob lynching’ incidents are the ‘punishment Muslims are getting for 1947’. Speaking to ANI, the Rampur MP stated, “Muslims will face it whatever it maybe”.

Khan had reportedly made this statement after the incident in Bihar where 3 cattle thieves were beaten to death by villagers yesterday. The thieves had allegedly entered the village of Baniyapur in the dead of night with a pick-up van and had already stolen some goats. They were spotted by villagers when they were trying to steal a buffalo. One of the cattles thieves was a Muslim man named Naushad Qureshi while two others were Hindus.

He further added, “Why did not our ancestors go to Pakistan? Ask this to Nehru, Maulana Azad, Sardar Patel and Bapu. They had made promises to Muslims”.

Azam Khan, in his statement, has claimed that the ‘mob lynching’ incidents are Muslims getting punished for not going to Pakistan in 1947. Khan, however, did not mention anything about scores of Hindus who have been killed by Muslim mobs in the country. He also did not mention the fake claims of being made to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ that have been made by many Muslims in recent days.

It is notable here that Azam Khan is currently facing trouble as the Uttar Pradesh government is contemplating to declare him a land mafia after as many as 13 cases of land grabbing were reported against him.

Khan has allegedly grabbed lands from farmers using forged documents for the construction of the Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur. The multi-million university is run by  Azam Khan’s trust.

26 farmers in the area had also alleged that they were forcefully detained and pressurised by Khan to sign forged deals selling thousands of hectares of land for Khan’s trust. When they declined, Khan allegedly used force to grab the lands from them unlawfully.

The Mohammad Ali Jauhar University was established in 2006 under the SP government where Khan was a minister. Even a Congress leader Faisal Khan had alleged that Azam Khan calls himself a Muslim but he had forcefully grabbed the lands of Muslim farmers. The university itself was allegedly constructed by using government funds worth Rs 3000 crores.

It may be noted that in March this year the UP government had also demolished the Urdu Gate built by Azam Khan in the Jauhar Ali University road in Rampur. No permission was taken to build the gate, and it was causing a diversion of traffic in the area.

Khan has always managed to remain in the news by his controversial remarks. He had used misogynist and sexually targetted remarks against his political opponent Jaya Prada during the Lok Sabha elections. He had made objectionable statements against Ambedkar too, in the past.

Delhi police bust Taliban controlled heroin racket, Afghan-Pakistani cartel worth 5000 crores discovered

In what is being stated at the biggest ever contraband haul in India, Delhi Police have busted an international heroin racket controlled by a Taliban leader yesterday in the capital city. As per reports, the police had discovered a consignment of heroin belonging to the cartel that is estimated to push heroin worth 5000 crores in India.

As per reports, a Delhi police special cell had carried out a 120-days long operation to track the cartel that involves a Taliban leader in Afghanistan and his Pakistani partner. After the long operation, Delhi police finally managed to seize a cargo of about 150kgs of heroin that was loaded in a convoy of six cars. The seized drugs are said to be worth Rs 600 crores.

The cars were plying in various routes around Delhi and Amritsar. The cartel reportedly hid the drug in jute strings. The strings were then woven into bags and the bags were filled with spices and dry fruits that were being exported to India.

DCP Manishi Chandra of the Delhi police special cell has informed News 18 that the cartel uses a sophisticated method that involves soaking jute strings in a specially prepared heroin solution. The drug is soaked into the strings and made into bags where each bag, when carefully extracted, yields a kg of heroin.

After the cargo of spices and condiments is emptied, the bags are sent to the labs to extract the drug. The extracted heroin is then processed and made into top quality Afghan heroin and packed into kilogram size bags for further transportation.

The Delhi police operation has also busted a secret laboratory in Zakir Nagar area in Delhi, where the drug was being extracted from the carefully made bags.

As per the police, the heroin sewn jute bags were being prepared in several locations of Afghanistan like Khyogani and Jalalabad. The cartel’s business is estimated at Rs 5000 crores. The Delhi police special cell cracked the module after the cars carrying the contraband were tracked down and seized.

Five of the cars had the contraband in them while the sixth car was being driven by a kingpin who worked as a spotter for the cartel. Five smugglers, including two chemical experts of Afghan origin, were also arrested by the police. A sixth person was reportedly nabbed yesterday.

The police special cell is currently on the lookout for the Indian receiver of the cartel. He is a UP-based businessman who is currently absconding. He is believed to be the sole receiver of the drug sewn jute bags in India.

The operation has revealed the extent and level of sophistication that is being employed by terrorist elements in Pakistan and Afghanistan to peddle drugs in India. The presence of Afghan chemical expert in the cartel also shows how advanced the entire operation was.

The secret lab at Zakir Nagar is located at a densely populated region where the drug was being extracted and processed in a very industrial and sophisticated setup. The suspicions were first raised when the ‘convoy like’ movement of sedans was noticed in a relatively poor neighbourhood, often carrying ‘foreign-looking’ persons.

Following the alarm, a deep operation was launched by Delhi police 4 months ago with inspector Sunil Ranjan, Ravinder Joshi and Vindo Badola. Finally, the police team got to know that a large consignment was being delivered at Lajpat Nagar on July 17.

The contraband carrying cars and the arrested individuals eventually led the police to the Zakir Nagar lab where more amounts of the drug and weapons were discovered.

The arrested individuals are named Shinwari Rehmat Gul and Akhtar Mohammad Shinwari from Afghanistan. The Indian nationals are named Vakeel Ahmed from Batla House, Dheeraj from Faridabad and Raees Khan from Maharani Bagh in Delhi.

Earlier in March, the police had busted another Afghan cartel that was using capsules of heroin that were swallowed by carriers to pass through airport security. In April, the police had bust another cartel that was using Afghan and Nigerian nationals to smuggle heroin. That operation had seized heroin worth Rs 125 crores.

‘India cannot be refugee capital of the world’, central govt tells SC while seeking extension for final NRC publication

Appearing for the Central government and the government of Assam in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) case today, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Supreme Court (SC) that India cannot be the refugee capital of the world. The Central and the Assam government had moved the apex court seeking an extension of the July 31 deadline for the finalisation of the NRC.

“Illegal migrants have no place in the country. India cannot be the refugee capital of the world”, Mehta told a bench comprising CJI Ranjan Gogoi and Justice R F Nariman. The Central and the State governments had also sought sample verification of the citizens included in the NRC. The governments cited that lakhs of people have been wrongly included in the final draft of the NRC in areas bordering Bangladesh due to the involvement of local officers.

“Please extend the deadline for publication of final Assam NRC from July 31 to a future date. There is a growing perception that many exclusions and many more inclusions have been made wrongly,” Mehta requested.

An affidavit was filed by the Centre seeking a direction for 20% re-verification of the final draft of the NRC in the districts bordering Bangladesh and 10% in the rest of Assam. The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on NRC sample re-verification plea to July 23.

The first draft of the NRC for Assam was published on the intervening night of December 31, 2017, and the second draft was published on January 1, 2018, in line with SC’s direction. Names of 1.9 crore people out of the 3.29 crore applicants were included at that point in time.

Crucial files vanish from Punjab govt ministry which was headed by Navjot Singh Sidhu before reshuffle in June

Several critical government files, including Rs 1,144-crore Ludhiana City Centre scam related to Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Amarinder Singh, have gone missing from the department previously headed by Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu. The other vanished files related to unauthorised construction on agricultural land in Ludhiana belong to the Local Government Department.

Sidhu who earlier headed the Local Government and Tourism and Cultural Affairs portfolios was divested of the ministry by the CM on June 6. He was made responsible for Power and New and Renewable Energy Sources during a Cabinet rejig that took place after the Lok Sabha election results were declared.

Sidhu who did not assume charge of his new department had tendered his resignation to the CM on July 14. His resignation has, however, not yet been accepted by the CM. He had sent his resignation to Congress president Rahul Gandhi one month ago.

In the Ludhiana City Centre scam, the State Vigilance Bureau has already granted a clean chit to the CM and other accused including his son Raninder Singh.

According to the sources, the government is serious about the missing files and efforts are on to recover them. The department has created a list of all such files that remain untraceable. “Efforts are on to trace the files. We are trying to establish contact with Sidhu, who might be aware about them,” a senior official told IANS.

Brahm Mohindra, Local Government Minister has already initiated department inquiry to look into the curious case of the missing files. One such file pertains to granting the clearance to the luxury apartment project in Ludhiana.

Sidhu was divested of the Local Government Ministry by the Punjab CM on claims that his handling of the department was “inept” and inefficient, citing the poor performance by the Congress party in urban areas of the state. Sidhu, on the other hand, defended himself stating that he has always been a “high performer” and is unnecessarily being singled out publicly by the CM.
