Uttar Pradesh: Muslim mob attacks Hindu temple, damages the structure with weapons in Lakhimpur Kheri

After the Muslim mob allegedly desecrated Durga temple in Delhi, a similar incident has occurred in Gauria village Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh when a mob of Muslims attacked a Mahadev Mandir and damaged the structure. The incident was reported in Gauriya village in Fardhan area on Sunday.

According to reports, on Sunday, an argument between Muslims and Hindus broke out on the issue of construction of a sewage channel next to the temple premises by Muslim men. The incident took place when some Muslims men allegedly started digging in front of the Mahadev temple to construct a sewage channel despite objections raised by the Hindu community.

The argument turned violent after a group of Muslims attacked the temple premises and damaged the structure. According to the Hindus in the village, who are reportedly the minority community, Muslims not only vandalised their temple but also attacked and injured one person.

The villagers claim that the Muslim groups in the village wanted to deliberately attack Hindus and used trivial issues as the pretext to attack minority Hindus residing in the area.

Further, the villagers alleged that the Muslims residing in the area were unhappy regarding the presence of the temple in the area. They had threatened to demolish the temple before. The villagers claim that Wasim, Sharafath Khan alias Nasir Khan, Rashid had threatened to demolish of the temple earlier too.

Villagers stated to media that the main accused Wasim is a history-sheeter and has many criminal cases against him. Despite a constructed drain being present, Wasim and his associates allegedly wanted to deliberately dig up another drain so they can get the temple demolished.

As the situation turned extremely violent, one of the villagers informed the police regarding the clashes. The Neemgaon and Fardhan police officials soon arrived at the spot along with the Additional Superintendent of Police and took the situation to their control.

Meanwhile, the Kheri police have confirmed the incident and tweeted that they have registered a complaint against the accused. The Kheri police said that an investigation has been initiated.

A similar incident of vandalism of Hindu temple by a Muslim mob in Delhi has shocked the people of the country. On the night of June 30, 2019, a mob had entered Durga Mata Mandir, Lal Kuan in Chandni Chowk had vandalized the idols inside. The locals had posted videos of the temple on social media that showed the Muslim mob entering the temple and thrashing Hindus residents of the neighbourhood.

Rajkot: Salim sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment for cow slaughter, fined with Rs 1 lakh

A Gujarat court has sentenced a person to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case related to cow slaughter. The matter is from the city of Dhoraji of Gujarat where a man named Salim Makrani had first stolen and then slaughtered the calf. This is the first time in the country when a court has given such a big punishment for cattle slaughter.

While hearing the cow slaughter case, the Rajkot court also imposed a fine of one lakh rupees on the accused along with 10 years of imprisonment.

The court found Salim guilty of stealing a calf and then subsequently slaughtering it. In the beginning of this year, a person named Satiar Koliya had filed an FIR accusing Salim of stealing a calf and killing it at his daughter’s wedding feast.

Police started probing the case and based on the forensic investigation, it was conclusively established that the case was indeed that of cow slaughter. The police furnished all the evidence collected against Salim in the court of law. Based on the evidence submitted by the police,  the Additional District and Sessions Judge HK Dave pronounced the sentence on Saturday (July 6th, 2019) under the Gujarat Animal Protection (Amendment) Act 2017 to the accused named Salim Makrani.

Gujarat is the first state in the country which has passed such a strict law to stop cow slaughter. The Gujarat Government had passed a law in June 2017 for the protection of cattle in the Assembly. Under this law, there is a provision of 10 years sentence and up to five lakh rupees fine in cases pertaining to cow slaughter.

Rajiv Chandrasekhar hits back at Congress over chartered plane remark, says even Congress ministers have hired it in the past

As the political drama unfolds in Karnataka impacting the very existence of Congress-JDS coalition government, Congress-JDS leaders have been firing their guns at BJP leaders for allegedly trying to destabilise the HD Kumaraswamy led government.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwara had insinuated the role of BJP Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar in flying out the ten dissident MLAs of the Congress and the JDS from Bengaluru to Mumbai in one of the chartered planes belongs to a company associated to him.

On July 6, the Congress-JDS coalition was pushed to the edge after 13 Congress and JD(S) MLAs submitted their resignations to bring its number to 105, on par with the BJP, in the 224-member Assembly. Soon after resigning from their respective political parties, the rebel MLAs had left for Mumbai in a chartered flight.

However, the plane belongs to Jupiter Capital Private Limited. Rajeev Chandrasekhar is the founder and chairman of the company.

Citing this, Deputy CM Parameshwara had tweeted that it was disgraceful that the BJP was attempting to topple a democratically elected govt and grab power through the backdoor.

In response to Deputy CM Parameshwara’s allegation, Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar has hit back at the senior Congress leader stating that the aircraft was a commercial charter flight that has been used to charter many people including Congress ministers in the last.

He further stated that he should not blame the aircraft or the BJP for the problems that have been created within the “crooked corrupt opportunistic alliance”.

The company had itself admitted that the aircraft that ferried the MLAs belonged to Jupiter Capital. The company officials had also clarified that they were running a business and whoever wanted to use the plane could do so. “It is a charter operation and the aircraft is chartered regularly by various people,” a top official of the company had said.

Earlier in the day, 22 Congress ministers including Deputy Chief Minister Parameshwara and senior Congress leader DK Shivkumar resigned from their respective ministries to accommodate the rebel MLAs in the cabinet. In a big jolt to the Congress-JDS coalition, independent MLA Nagesh also resigned from the cabinet pushing the number of MLAs supporting the coalition further down.

Cow smugglers tied and made to chant ‘Gau mata ki jai’ in MP village, police file case against both smugglers and villagers

About 60 KM away from Khandwa, in Sawlikheda village in Madhya Pradesh about 100 villagers caught 25 people suspected of cow smuggling and tied them with a rope. They were reportedly forced to chant “Gau mata ki jai”. Later, they were all taken to the police station and handed over to the police.

As can be seen in the video attached in the above tweet, the alleged cow smugglers were tied with a rope and were forced to hold their ears while being asked to chant “Gau mata ki jai”. The police had registered a case of cow smuggling against the alleged offenders and about 16 people have been arrested in the case so far.

The Superintendent of police, Shivdayal Singh has said that the police has registered cases against both the suspected smugglers involved in smuggling of cattle as well as the villagers. “We have filed a case against the villagers and a farmer who didn’t inform us of nabbing these cow smugglers and took law in their hands,” Singh said. The police have also confiscated 8 vehicles from the accused in which they transported cows, along with the smuggled cattle.

Khandwa Police Station Officer-in-Charge Harishankar Rawat said, “A case has been registered against all 25 accused in the cattle transport, under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Prevention of Animals Act, and detailed investigation is underway.” He also revealed that 21 cows were seized from the smugglers and they have been sent to a nearby Gaushala. The cows were reportedly being transported to the neighbouring Maharashtra state for slaughter when the villagers caught the cow smugglers.

The police confirmed that the people caught by the villagers didn’t have any authorised documents for transporting cattle. The smugglers were presented in a court and they were remanded to judicial custody. Other than 8 four-wheelers and one two-wheeler, the police also confiscated gold and silver jewellery, mobile phone and cash from the smugglers/.

Karnataka crisis deepens as 21 Congress MLAs ‘voluntarily’ resign from the cabinet

The Congress-JD(S) coalition government in Karnataka is going through a severe crisis. After an independent MLA and minister, H Nagesh quit the alliance today, 21 Congress MLAs have also submitted their resignation to the party chief to placate the 14 rebel MLAs who withdrew their support to the Congress-JD(S) coalition on Saturday.

On Saturday, the Congress-JDS coalition was pushed to the edge after 13 Congress and JD(S) MLAs submitted their resignations bringing its number to 105, at par with the BJP, in the 224-member Assembly, which is eight short of the half-way mark of 113. In an attempt to save the sinking ship, 10 MLAs were reportedly lodged at the Sofitel hotel, Mumbai, after 13 MLAs of the Congress-JD(S) submitted their resignations on Saturday.

Reportedly, Bangalore Rural MP and senior Congress leader DK Suresh speaking to media had informed earlier in the day, that all Congress ministers are set to resign from the coalition amidst speculations that a new government may be formed after the resignation of 14 Congress-JD(S) MLAs.

Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara had called for a breakfast meeting among all Congress ministers in the Karnataka government and there was a possibility that some of them may be asked to step down to make way for some or all of the dissenting MLAs to get ministerial berths. Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy was also scheduled to attend the breakfast meeting which was held at Parameshwara’s residence.

While the political mudslinging is in full swing, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who had gone to the United States on a personal visit had to rush back after a series of resignation threatened the existence of his government. HD Kumaraswamy returned back to Bangalore on Sunday and held a series of meetings with leaders of his party JD(S) and its ally Congress in a bid to rescue the coalition government.

The coalition has 119 members in the 224-member assembly, including the 14 rebel MLAs and the speaker. If these resignations are accepted by the speaker, the alliance’s strength will drop to 104 and the Assembly’s strength will be 210. The BJP, which has 105 MLAs, will then be just one legislator short of a majority.

Hindu temple in the UK attacked twice in June, statues outside Shree Ram temple near Birmingham smashed

Locals Hindus have been anguished after a temple has been repeatedly attacked in the UK. Reports suggest that the statues outside the Shree Ram Mandir (also known as the Gujarati Hindu Social and Cultural Centre) have been vandalised multiple times in the month of June. The temple is located in Fort Road, Walsall about nine miles from Birmingham.

In the first incident, some statues were smashed outside the temple on June 10. Authorities claim that the temple was attacked again on June 19 at 1 pm. CCTV footage showed a man with what seemed like a cricket bat or hockey stick, breaking the statues and running away with the face of one of the statues.

Following the attack, the Hindu community has expressed sadness. Some fear that they may attack a person the next time. A staff member of the temple, Jagu Patel said, “We just want to know why the people who did this did so. They don’t get anything from this and it just seems senseless. We’ve never had this before and it’s very sad, as we are a Hindu temple in a quiet area of Walsall and we feel that every person should live peacefully with heart and soul”.

Jagu also said that the statues were custom made and would be difficult to replace. It would also cost a lot as they need to be imported from India.

Rajan Zed, the President of the Universal Society of Hinduism in a statement said, “It is shocking for the worldwide Hindus to hear about such incidents happening to a Hindu house of worship. This causes heartbreak to the hard-working, harmonious and peaceful area Hindu community by receiving such signals of hatred and intimidation. British Hindus have made a lot of contributions to the nation and society and continue to do so”.

Zed also urged local leaders to immediately visit the temple and meet with the Hindu community and reassure them. The police have confirmed the attack and are yet to nab the culprit.

In November 2018, three Krishna idols were stolen from the Swaminarayan Temple in Willesden, in what is suspected to be a hate crime. Before that, there was another break-in at the Kutch Satsang Swaminarayan Temple at Kenton. Ever since the incident, Hindu priests there have sought the help of Community Security Trust (CST) to upgrade the temple security.

The CST is an organisation that has been charged with protecting the Jewish community in the UK. Responding to the calls for help, so far they have trained 80 Hindu priests in order to prevent such incidents in the future.

In Delhi, a total of 17 people have been arrested after the Durga Mata temple in Hauz Qazi was attacked recently.

Telangana forest officer booked under SC-ST act a week after she was thrashed by a mob led by TRS leader

0

Just weeks after Telangana forest officer Chole Anitha was thrashed by a mob led by a TRS leader, a case has been registered against the officer under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for allegedly abusing tribals.

Reportedly, Nayini Saroja, a resident of Sarsala had filed a complaint against Anitha and 15 other Forest Department officials for allegedly abusing the tribals by taking up their caste names. The case was registered at the Kagaznagar district police.

She has been booked even as she was provided with police protection yesterday. She has been provided with armed security at her house as she had claimed that she feared for her life ever since the mob had attacked her.

On June 30th, Anita was brutally thrashed by a stick-wielding mob at Sarsala forest village. The incident caught on camera went viral a week ago. Anita had gone to the village to conduct a plantation drive with tractors and the staff of the Forest Departement.

Villagers claimed ownership of the land and had objected to the plantation drive. The situation escalated as the mob started to wield sticks and attack the officer. The injured officer was later admitted to the hospital.

The officer had alleged that the mob was led by TRS leader Koneru Krishna Rao who was subsequently arrested on the next day. Krishna is a Zilla Parishad vice-chairman. He had claimed that the Forest Departement officials were harassing the Adivasis and forcefully confiscating their land.

However, in another shocking video, Krishna’s brother, who is also a TRS MLA, Koneru Konappa was caught trying to brainwash the villagers in a bid to twist the sequence of events in front of the media that led to the arrest of Krishna.

Anitha had gone to the village to conduct a mandatory afforestation programme to compensate for the loss of forest land due to the government’s flagship Kaleswaram multipurpose irrigation project.

“Seeing our saffron flags, a Muslim mob attacked us with saws, knives and sticks,” Dehradun protests against temple desecration turned violent

The protest against the desecration of Durga Mandir in Hauz Qazi, Delhi at the beginning of this month has taken a national turn. A peaceful protest against the temple vandalism was organised under the leadership of Hindu organisations on July 5 in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

This peaceful protest had turned violent when a Muslim mob intercepted the procession and started mercilessly beating up the Hindus who were participating in the rally near the Inamulla building in Dehradun. The tension escalated when the police forcefully stopped the activists of the Hindu organisations, who were moving towards the building after they got the information of the incident. It was alleged that the police took no action against the miscreants.

Inamulla area near Tehsil Chowk, Dehradun

Young activists of the Hindu organisation were beaten up by local Muslim mob near the Inamulla building, which is predominantly a Muslim dominated area. Tensions in the city prevailed throughout the day due to the controversy. The Muslims reportedly shouted provocative slogans, which the Hindu activists objected to. The peaceful rally which was named ‘pratirodh rally'(resistance rally) by the Hindu activists, turned unruly, as Muslim mob attacked the children and the elderly people participating in the rally. Apart from the violence, the mob also chanted slogans like ‘Allahu Akbar’.

Though this incident occurred two days earlier, the locals are still scared to talk about the incident. Few locals have alleged that contrary to what transpired, the police have lodged a complaint against the Hindus, who were actually at the receiving end. An activist named Rohit Maurya while speaking to OpIndia gave us snippets of the incident.

Rohit told our reporter that the incident transpired on July 5, when a mob of Muslims attacked the group of Hindu activists who were moving towards the parade ground to organise a peaceful rally against the Hauz Qazi temple vandalism and the killing of a Hindu youth in Uttrakhand by a Muslim man.

Here an atmosphere of fear has arisen. A cleric named Qazi Riaz, in his statement, has said that if the Muslims are given a free hand they can go on a killing spree all over the country, we are here to oppose this sentiment of the Muslims“, said Rohit.

While speaking to us, Rohit blamed the police for whatever transpired. He alleged that the police were biased. “Despite having proper permission to carry out the rally, we were stopped by the police“, claimed Rohit. “Small children were also not spared, just because they were carrying saffron flags in their hands“, said Rohit, claiming that the police instead of apprehending the culprits have lodged complaints against the victims.

Opindia gathered videos wherein the Muslim mob can be seen attacking the Hindus near the Inamulla building in Dehradun. In the video, it can be clearly seen how the Muslim mob are pelting stones and using provocative slogans to incite the Hindus.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpmD9cO06nA]

Opindia got in touch with some locals of the area. Most of the people are scared of talking about the incident. They fear that if they divulge any information and people come to know, they might be socially and economically boycotted from the area.

However, after talking to many people, what could be established was that the police are hesitant to take any sort of action against the Muslims in that area.

Moreover, talking about the video, Rohit furthered that though it can be clearly seen how the mob used screwdrivers, saws and knives to attack the Hindus, not even sparing the children. He alleged that the police stood like mute spectators and did not take an action against the mob. Rohit also alleged that the police is actually afraid to take action against the mob because they are afraid of the mob themselves.

He also accused the police of not letting them submit a memorandum to the district magistrate.

Another social activist also confirmed that the police are scared to act against such a mob which is why the anti-social elements in the area get a free hand to do whatever they want to. Though there have been many incidents in the past where miscreants were found guilty, the police have failed to take any action against them, alleged the social worker.

Though Uttarakhand CM, Trivender Singh Rawat has assured that no one would be permitted to take the law and order in their hands, the Hindu’s around the Inamulla building live in constant threat.

Unfortunately, this deplorable incident has not got enough media coverage. It is being believed that the media is also sceptical of delving into the issue because it may not further the narrative it is building.

However, what is disconcerting is that though everything is out in the open, the administration and the police do not seem to be taking appropriate action. The Hindus who are actually the victims of mob violence here are being projected as the culprits.

Nevertheless, the questions such vexing incidents evoke are: For how long will this apathy towards the Hindus last? For how long will a selective section of media smoke-screen such incident where Hindus are the ones facing the wrath? Until when will the Hindus be at the receiving end? Will the Hindu community be ever allowed to talk about their rights without it being given a ‘communal twist’? There remain many questions unanswered.

Faith under siege: What is behind the recent spate of attacks on Hindu religious sites?

The temple vandalism in Hauz Qazi, Chandni Chowk is still totally fresh in our memories, still very much a topic of discussion on social media, as is the news of attack on other Hindu religious sites. Then, we hear of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, where a Shivling is desecrated by a man urinating on it! In fact, Opindia has compiled a list of at least 10 incidents of desecration of temples across India since June 2019. I suspect the actual number is much higher.

So what is going on? Why is the average Hindu suddenly finding themselves under attack alll across the nation?

I do not have the data, but I will describe what I suspect is happening. Let me begin with a story from my hometown of Ranchi.

Several years ago, one afternoon, we heard that Ranchi’s Main Road had suddenly turned into a war zone, shops and businesses were being attacked, windows broken and cars smashed by some members of the local Muslim community. We were not sure what had triggered the violence, but word on the street was that they were retaliating against something “we” had done.

Except “we” had no idea. The following day, people in Ranchi gathered around local Hindi newspapers to find out what had happened and why. That’s when I heard the word “Rohingya” for the first time in my life. Like most people of Ranchi, I did not even know how to pronounce it. We learned that something had happened in Myanmar, that a community of Muslims known as “Rohingyas” had been offended, that the Indian government was apparently supportive of the Myanmar government. And this was the trigger that led some local Muslims in Ranchi to retaliate against “us.”

The rioters had made no distinction between their Hindu neighbors in Ranchi and some far away people in Myanmar they had a problem with. Their anger was directed at “non-believers,” no matter who they were.

Such indiscriminate hatred towards “non-believers” and deep seated prejudices against “idol worshippers” are a huge problem. But the pseudo-secularist setup of Indian society has so far prevented this problem from even being discussed, let alone be addressed.

As with the old event in Ranchi, such “low intensity” communal attacks against Hindus and their sites happen all the time and all across India. Like I said, Opindia counted ten instances since June 2019 alone. And because they are so common, police and administration treat it as some kind of “normal,” usually ignoring them altogether. And local Hindus also tend to ignore them.

So what is behind the recent spate of attacks? I suspect there are two factors at play here.

The first is a rising Hindu awareness. All across India, Hindus have increased their expectations, especially now that we have Modi 2.0 at the center with second successive majority. They are no longer willing to ignore incidents and be intimidated. And when something happens, they are no longer afraid to demand justice and put the government on notice.

This phenomenon goes hand in hand with India’s changing politics. Without the rising Hindu political consciousness, there would not have been 303 seats for Modi. And without the 303 seat government, local Hindus would not have felt emboldened to raise their voices for the first time.

And democracy is inherently set up in such a way that it caters only to those who are willing to raise their voices.

Remember early 2015, when the ruckus over “church attacks” had hit the fan? Then Delhi Police informed the Center that just 3 incidents of crimes against churches had been reported in all of 2014. That did not surprise me. What did surprise me was the rest of the data supplied by Delhi Police : that 206 temples and 30 gurudwaras had suffered some sort of crime during the same period!!

But the “passive” Hindus had failed to organize and raise their voices against it!

I believe that is what has changed now. Hindus have their eyes open and when something happens, they speak up. It helps that this is the age of social media, where information spreads quickly and it is very difficult to bury people’s voices. Also there are right wing outlets that can put reporters on the ground and follow up on stories that media would have us forget.

I suspect there is a second factor as well, which is far more dangerous. The entire ‘liberal ecosystem’ has invested heavily into the fake “Lynchistan” narrative and painted the May 23 verdict as some kind of affront to India’s Muslims. This could be a factor leading to more aggression on the ground.

The truth is that the rising Hindu consolidation since May 2014 is no different from political empowerment of oppressed sections all across the free world. It could be black people in America, Jewish people in Europe, backward castes in India or the women’s movement anywhere. For centuries, the Hindus in India have faced discrimination and atrocities for their identity. It was only a matter of time before they used democratic means to achieve their emancipation.

As such, we need two things. First, the government needs to adjust to the “new normal” and adopt a zero tolerance policy towards religious violence against Hindus. This attitude must filter down from top levels of government down to the constable on the beat. And to the media, which must learn to treat such attack on the Hindu faith with the seriousness it deserves, not cover it up with euphemisms like “samuday vishesh.”

The second is that Hinduphobia, prejudices against “non-believers” and “idol-worshippers” must be tackled with the same seriousness as racist, casteist or sexist prejudices. No, it’s not okay to crack gaumutra jokes, just like you would not crack jokes about why a woman can only work in the kitchen. It’s not funny and it serves to further prejudices and fuel attack against the Hindu faith. We cannot have an environment that normalizes or trivializes violence or prejudice against Hindus. The problem of Hinduphobia must be tackled through school education, sensitization efforts, with government resources and civil society contributions, exactly in the way we raise consciousness for any other form of social justice.

We must all move towards the new normal. It’s the way we grow as a society.

Zee Music removes music video of Tik Tok ‘influencers’ who had posted hate-mongering video propagating revenge for Tabrez death

Zee Music has removed a music video from its platforms after the artists who made that video was found propagating revenge over the death of a Muslim man in police custody in Jharkhand. Recently, a popular TikTok ‘influencer’, Hasnain Khan, had shared a shocking video on TikTok. In that video, Khan along with four other ‘influencer’ friends of his were saying, “you may have killed that innocent Tabrez Ansari, but tomorrow if his son takes revenge, do not say that all Muslims are terrorists.”

22-year-old Tabrez Ansari was beaten up by a mob in Jharkhand on 18th June on accusations of theft. Four days later, he died in police custody. The video posted by Khan was widely criticised on social media platforms, as it was seen as an open endorsement of violence. Although Tabrez had died in police custody after he was beaten by public for stealing a bike, the media has created a narrative that he was killed by Hindus for being a Muslim. Several incidents of violence have already taken place in the country in the name of protesting Tabrez’s death. Such a protest by Muslims in Surat had gone violent on 5th July, where the mob had attacked police and damaged several vehicles.

In such a scenario, an alert user on Twitter brought to Zee Music’s notice that people who work in albums produced by the company are spreading hate. Replying to that tweet, the official Twitter handle of Zee News replied that they have removed the music video “tere bin kive” from all the platforms of the music company. The company also noted that the persons are not Zee Music co-artists.

“Tere bin kive” is a Punjabi song sung by Ramji Gulati and written by Moody and Akkhtar. It was published in June this year.
