As Swati Chaturvedi mourns the loss of her imaginary credibility, her past faff pieces come to haunt her

Abusive troll masquerading as a journalist Swati Chaturvedi recently sent OpIndia a defamation notice accusing us of having cost her readership because of our articles where we exposed her shoddy journalism on multiple occasions. However, even though she wants to put the blame on us, we can’t possibly be held responsible if her peers doubt her ‘credibility’.

Her own track record of bizarre stories (like the one where she claimed Leonardo DiCaprio was going to attend an RSS event) is enough to make anyone question her shoddy journalism. Meanwhile, Twitter users also dug out her long-forgotten stories where she had made equally bizarre claims.

As can be seen above, during the run-up to the Uttar Pradesh state assembly elections, Chaturvedi was busy writing essays on how the BJP may lose. The BJP won the state assembly elections with a massive mandate and a historic landslide winning 312 out of 403 seats.

Some of the other gems by Chaturvedi are as follows:

Swati saying all is well in Bihar gathbandhan

This article was published on 24th July 2017. Less than 48 hours of Chaturvedi making these predictions, Nitish Kumar resigned as Bihar Chief Minister and staked claim to form government again by forming an alliance with the BJP.

Swati Chaturvedi on Varun Gandhi

Swati’s ‘reliable sources’ had told her how Varun Gandhi would be the trump card Congress would play to bring PM Modi and Amit Shah on their knees. Two years later, Varun Gandhi continues to be a BJP MP, winning the recently concluded elections from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh.

Swati Chaturvedi on Mayawati, Mamata and Priyanka

Weeks before the country voted Swati was of the opinion that Priyanka Gandhi, along with Mayawati and Mamata is a formidable force, challenging the might Modi-Shah duo.

Swati’s views on Priyanka after elections

Suddenly the strong woman challenging patriarchy was a ‘dud’ for Swati.

Swati Chaturvedi on Rafale

Swati along with Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s trusted lieutenant Praveen Chakravarty, who is accused of feeding Rahul Gandhi with wrong inputs surrounding the hype on Rafale as election point, believed that shouting that Rafale deal is a scam is a brilliant strategic move.

OpIndia on its part has rejected all the charges made by Swati against OpIndia. Such intimidatory tactics wouldn’t work.

After threatening Jesus to choose between her and Rakhi Sawant, Tanushree Dutta questions Modi’s ‘Ram Rajya’

Furious at the Mumbai police for granting a clean chit to actor Nana Patekar in a sexual harassment case filed against him by the actress, Tanushree Dutta, in a fresh statement, questions Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the vision he has for the country. Earlier, Tanushree Dutta had given notice to Jesus and threatened him to choose between her and Rakhi Sawant.

The Mumbai police have recently filed a B Summary report, giving a clean chit to Bollywood actor Nana Patekar, in connection with actor Tanushree Dutta sexual harassment case. In its closure report, the Mumbai Police also stated that the allegations levelled against Patekar were “false” and were made with “malicious intent.” The report stated, “There was a malicious intent and false complaint was filed by Tanushree Dutta against Nana Patekar.”

A ‘B Summary’ report is filed when the police are unable to find evidence in support of the complaint filed and hence decides to discontinue the investigation.

Reacting to this, Tanushree Dutta, who had spearheaded the #MeToo movement in India by making a shocking accusation in October last year, accusing co-actor Nana Patekar of allegedly misbehaving with her on the sets of the film ‘Horn Ok Pleassss’ in 2008, not only blamed the Mumbai police of taking bribe from Nana Patekar but also dragged Prime Minister Modi into her personal quandary.

Amusingly, after Modi has become the Prime Minister of India, people somehow hold him responsible for anything and everything happening under the deep blue sky. Going by this similar tendency, Tanushree Dutta also questioned him for the kind of vision he has for the country and also asked why daughters in the country led by him had to face such harassment when he talks highly of things like ‘Ram-Rajya’.

Shamelessly dragging the PM into her personal impasse Dutta said, “Modi ji..what happened to a corruption free India?? A daughter of the country gets harassed by a serial offender, attacked by a mob in public, denied justice over and over again and her name is maligned, she is threatened, pressurised, her career is destroyed and literally driven out of the country to live a life of anonymity and your police force say her complaint is false and malicious!!! Yehi hai apka Raam Rajya?? Being born in a devout Hindu family maine toh suna tha ki Raam naam satya hai toh phir kyun is desh mein asatya aur adharm ki bar bar Vijay hoti rahi hai?? Jawab dijiye mujhe.”

Tanushree Dutta probably needs to understand that she should be holding the law enforcement mechanism responsible, if at all, and not the Prime Minister, whom she now expects should leave all obligations and answer to her reservations.

Meanwhile, there were reports that Tanushree Dutta was to file a writ petition in Bombay High Court after the Mumbai Police closed the sexual harassment case against Nana Patekar.

Mamata Banerjee to skip all party presidents’ meeting called by PM Modi tomorrow

Mamata Banerjee has written to the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Pralhad Joshi, informing him that she will be unable to attend the meeting of party presidents called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ANI has reported.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be chairing a meeting of presidents of all parties represented in Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha on June 19 to discuss the issue of ‘one nation, one election’.

Mamata Banerjee had earlier skipped the Niti Aayog meet on the 15th of June to discuss the country’s development agenda for ‘New India 2022’. She had also said that the NITI Aayog meeting would be fruitless as they do not have any financial powers.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has been ignoring or sidelining the central government on several occasions. Earlier, she had refused to talk to the PM and hold a review meeting to access the damages done by cyclones Fani. She had severely objected and had even sat on a Dharna to prevent the CBI officials from questioning Kolkata’s then police chief over Sharada scam.

Rapper Hard Kaur goes mental on social media: Blames RSS Chief for terror attacks, calls Yogi ‘OrangeRapeMan’

Taran Kaur Dhillon, more popularly known by her stage name Hard Kaur, appears to have fallen over the edge. From her posts on social media, it appears that the rap-singer is losing her touch with reality.

Since the 16th of June, she has been showering abuses on RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath. She has called Yogi ‘OrangeRapeMan’ and accused Bhagwat of committing the 26/11 and the Pulwama Terror Attacks.

Kaur, who is known for her eccentricities, appears to have reached a point where hatred for individuals has led her to believe in deluded fantasies. The most obnoxious of her posts is the one where she can be seen spouting Pakistani propaganda. She accused Mohan Bhagwat of being the main man behind the Mumbai and Pulwama Terror Attacks, thereby, absolving Pakistan of all its guilt.

Kaur’s meltdown also reveals the sort of hatred against the Sangh Parivar and the Saffron garb that runs amok in the corridors of Bollywood. While most are sophisticated enough to hide their virulent hatred behind sweet words, not everyone is smart enough to pull off such tricks. And Hard Kaur certainly appears to be in the second camp.

Apart from Bhagwat and Yogi, Kaur has also spread malicious lies about the origin of the word Hindu and hurt a lot of Hindu sentiments. It appears to be straight out of the virulent anti-Hindu propaganda that is circulated in Islamist camps.

Her posts have turned into an abuse-fest where she is spitting expletives at anyone who speaks in favour of Bhagwat or Yogi. Understandably, she has been receiving abuses as well. It appears only a matter of time before she plays the victim card and claims that she is being viciously targeted by online Hindutva trolls. Perhaps, she will be provided with a platform by the mainstream media as well to further peddle her agenda.

It has become a time and tested trick for people in the lower rungs of Bollywood to try and gain some fame by spouting inanities against the BJP or the Sangh. However, Kaur appears to have taken it too far. With the changing mood in Bollywood, it appears unlikely that she will find sympathy anywhere apart from the loony bins of the Far-Left.

Should Kaur be successful in finding work in Bollywood after this episode, it will only cement the notion that the Mumbai movie industry thrives in a culture of obscenities. While Kaur may be at the twilight of her career already, Bollywood has shown that there’s always a new low they can stoop to.

Two JeM terrorist involved in the Pulwama terror attack neutralised in Anantnag, Army major martyred

In an ongoing encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag today, two JeM terrorists, Sajjad Maqbool Bhat and Tauseef who were reportedly involved in the ghastly Pulwama attack have been neutralised by the security forces. Army Major, Ketan Sharma has been martyred while three soldiers injured in the gunbattle.

One of the slain terrorists identified as Sajjad Bhat was reportedly the owner of the explosive-laden vehicle Maruti Eeco used in the suicide bombing of a CRPF convoy in Pulwama in February, and the other was the handler of the suicide bomber.

The security forces launched a search operation based on intelligence inputs that some terrorists could be hiding in the area. Personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police personnel surrounded the Bidoora village in the Achabal area following the tip-off. The operation soon turned into an encounter after the terrorists opened fire at the forces.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Army chief General Bipin Rawat will pay tribute to Major Ketan Sharma.

Major Ketan Sharma, who is survived by his wife and a three-year-old daughter was a resident of Meerut. He joined the Indian Army’s Sikh Light Infantry as a Lieutenant in 2012 after passing out from the Indian Military Academy Dehradun. His first posting reportedly was in Pune and he was transferred to Anantnag nearly two years back. He joined 19 Rashtriya Rifles (Sikh Light Infantry) as part of the counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

Major Ketan Sharma’ mortal remains would be brought to Delhi and will then be taken to his residence where his last rites will be conducted with full military honour.

Son of Kerala CPM chief booked in rape and cheating case by Mumbai police

Binoy Vinodini Balakrishnan, son of CPM Kerala chief Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, was booked in a rape case over a complaint filed by a 33 year old woman. Mumbai Police registered a case against Binoy after the woman alleged that he had raped her repeatedly over a decade under the pretext of marrying her.

According the complaint filed by the woman, she met Binoy in while she was working as a bar dancer in Dubai. Binoy used to frequently visit the bar as he was in Dubai where he runs a construction firm. Following this, the woman got into a relationship with her. According to her, later Binoy asked her to leave the job and move with him to Mumbai. In 2010 he had rented a house for her in suburban Andheri in Mumbai, and had promised to marry her. He used to regularly visit the flat, and they had a son in the same year.

But he had hidden the fact from her that he was already married, and had a family in Kerala. Why the woman kept asking for marriage and also wanted to meet the family of Binoy, he kept resisting this. But last year the woman came to know that Binoy was already married and he has two children in Kerala. She confronted him with these facts, and this resulted in the relationship turning sour. The woman also alleged that after this he had threatened her with dire consequences if she complaints with police, therefore she didn’t come forward earlier.

Based on the complaint, the son of the CPM leader has been booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 420 (cheating) and 376 (rape). The case has been registered at the Oshiwara police station.

Binoy Balakrishnan has refuted the allegations, saying that the woman is trying to blackmail him. He accepted that he knows the woman, but said that she had for ₹5 crore from him around six months ago.

20,000 acres of Temple land encroached in Telangana, State Government decides to act tough

The Telangana government has decided to take action against illegal occupants of large tracts of temple lands. Telangana Endowments Minister, A Indra Karan Reddy, has now directed the officials to act against encroachers and evict them from the state lands.

According to the New Indian Express, nearly 20,124.08 acres of endowments lands are under encroachment in the State. The encroachments have happened as the lessees are taking the temple lands at throwaway prices and in turn, they had given them on sub-lease at market prices, which has also resulted in huge revenue loss to the Endowments department.

“Act tough on encroachers. Do not spare the encroachers, however, influential they may be,” Endowments Minister A Indra Karan Reddy told the officials on Monday.

The minister has directed the officials to deal sternly with those who gave the endowment lands on sub-lease. The officials are now ascertaining the actual rental value of their lands and reviewing the prices to earn better revenue.

The officials have also planned to erect fencing around the temple lands and putting up notice boards stating that those lands belonged to the Endowments Department. Reportedly, the endowments lands worth Rs 3 crore was leased out to private persons some 50 years.

The Telangana endowment department has further decided to evict the lessee and take back the land to its control. However, the lessee had approached the court, which has caused delays as the department could not take the encroached land back.

According to the latest information available with the Endowments Department, the Charitable and Hindu Religious Institutions in the State possess landed property to an extent of 87,235.39 acres. These lands are located in urban and rural areas, which included forest lands too. The lands under utilisation or in the possession of Archakas are 2,458.05 acres.

In Telangana alone, the total lands under the lease are 21,238.26 acres. The extent of lands under encroachments are 20,124.08 acres. Out of this, the lands covered under the Land Acquisition Act are just 2,122.08 acres while other types of lands include some 19,692.37 acres.

Even as Indian liberals and peaceniks hail ‘peaceful’ Pakistanis, abuse pours in against Sania Mirza post world cup defeat

Earlier, the ‘peaceful’ Pakistani cult had created a sense of ‘joy’ in the hearts and minds of Indian liberals for their outstanding ‘grace and humour’ despite their loss to India in a world cup cricket match. Nevertheless, the Pakistanis seem to have returned to their natural instinct of being abusive.

On Sunday, the Pakistan cricket team, a tier-3 unit comprised of mediocre talents, just like their compatriots in the armed forces, lost to Indian cricket team in the ongoing ICC cricket world cup.

As stadium tickets were presumably unaffordable for Pakistani fans, they had instead visited free fan parks outside the stadium to cheer for their team and few of them also took to social media to mock their own team for playing such abysmal cricket. Soon, the Indian liberal circuit jumped on to the scene to hail the magnanimity of Pakistanis to move beyond their team’s loss against its powerful neighbour. The liberals showered praise on the so-called ‘light-hearted’ conduct of Pakistanis on social media following the defeat.

Within just two days, the benevolence of Pakistanis has gotten washed away. The latest victim of the anguish of Pakistanis on Twitter is India’s sporting icon Sania Mirza, who is incidentally married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, who was also part of Pakistani playing eleven on Sunday. Now, the Pakistanis seem to have made Sania Mirza a scapegoat for their defeat against India.

The abusive attack on Sania Mirza began with Pakistani actress Veena Malik unnecessarily dragging Mirza’s family and accused her of not taking care of the health of her child. She tweeted asking the sports star to act responsibly and not take her family to a ‘sheesha place’ to have junk food, which is ‘hazardous’ for both athletes and boys, according to Malik.

Sania replied by informing her that she didn’t take her child to any ‘hazardous’ place and asked her to mind her own business. Mirza also schooled Veena Malik saying that she was neither Pakistan cricket team’s dietician nor she was their mother or principal or teacher.

After motormouths like Veena Malik dragged Sania Mirza into an unwarranted controversy, it was time for other eminent intellectuals of Pakistan to share their blame on Sania Mirza.

Shockingly, a Pakistani person named Qamar Cheema, who performs the role of strategic affairs and defence analyst, including other circumstantial roles on Arnab Goswami’s Republic TV, crossed all the moral limits on a TV show when he questioned Sania Mirza’s loyalty towards her husband Shoaib Malik. Cheema claimed that had Sania Mirza been loyal to Shoaib Malik, she would have asked Malik to go back home. He also blamed Sania Mirza for the defeat of Pakistani cricket team for defeat against India.

Pakistan, a parody country of its own and an only ‘dysfunctional’ state disowned by its owns citizens, is the epitome of negativity and defeat.

Pakistanis never cease to amaze the world with indulging in such large scale abuse and attacks against innocent people, who had otherwise nothing to do with the incident.

Congress leader Tarun Gogoi says his party must emulate ‘RSS model’ if it wants to regain ground in Assam

The BJP-Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) alliance in the Northeastern state have once again created a dent for the Congress in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. The grand old party, which has seen continuous drubbing in Assam since the 2014 Lok Sabha polls have recently chalked out ‘Mission 80′ strategy to regain grounds in the 2021 Assam Assembly elections against BJP’s mission 100 seats.

Veteran Congress leader and former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi, talking about Congress’ wishful strategies in Assam said that the party should emulate the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) model to establish mass contact.

Lauding RSS model of outreach, Gogoi said on Monday, “we are opposed to the ideology of the RSS but the mass contact programme of the organisation is worth emulating if we have to reach out to people at the grassroots level”.

He said the RSS and its affiliates were working among the people in the state, which is one of the reasons for the BJP’s electoral success in the state. “We also need to do the same in order to gauge the people’s mood and to have a better understanding of their problems and aspirations,” he said.

According to Gogoi, Congress also needs a separate cadre like the RSS to mobilise support for the party.

Hitting out at his party for becoming conceited after being in power in the state for 15 years due to which the BJP had managed to make inroads into the state, Gogoi said, “we became complacent after being in power for three consecutive terms. Now that we are decimated, we must take it as an opportunity, find out mistakes, rectify them and start working with full energy,” he said.

The former CM, identifying ‘dwindling mass contact’ as the reason for Congress’ defeats, said, “I will lead Mission 80 from the front.” Gogoi also said that he was ready to lead the party in 2021 elections, and he was also ready to be the chief ministerial candidate if required.

Congress on Saturday convened an executive meeting where the party dwelt on the Lok Sabha election debacle in the state.

BJP had surpassed its 2014 tally in Assam, securing nine out of the 10 contested seats in the 14 Lok Sabha seat constituency of Assam in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, while Congress had managed just three seats. In 2014 also Congress had met a similar fate as the saffron party had won from seven seats, while the Congress had bagged just three.

Tendulkar in 2003 or Rohit in 2019, who played it better?

Where were you when Tendulkar smashed a six off Shoaib Akhtar in the World Cup 2003? I was sitting in front of my tv with family members around. I was nervous, shaking my legs too much and rubbing the palms after every 4-5 seconds, a usual activity whenever Tendulkar batted.

Shoaib bowled the second over of the Indian innings, and Tendulkar was on strike, the much-awaited contest about to start. 4th ball of the over, short and outside the off stump, Tendulkar just smashed it in the air to the third man boundary. I was scared and in awe at the same time, scared because there was a third man placed, in awe because the little man anticipated it so well.

On Sunday, Rohit Sharma has hit a similar six against Pakistan’s Hasan Ali at the third man boundary. So who played it better? Let’s first watch the six hit by both the batsmen.

Now let’s compare the two sixes. Tendulkar’s six was better than Rohit’s (I am biased for Tendulkar on many occasions, but this has nothing to do with it). There are reasons to put Sachin’s six over Rohit’s and many would accept this.

The pressure of chasing a target, that too when you’re playing Pakistan in a World Cup contest was tremendous, and with the likes of Waqar, Wasim, Shoaib, and Razzaq steaming in to defend 273, the score looked more than 300. In Rohit’s case, he was playing batting first, probably in lesser pressure situations.

Tendulkar’s was facing just the second over of the innings, his feet have just started to move swiftly, the bowler was fresh and of course fast and furious. Rohit was at 85 and had already batted for 25 overs, eyes set, bowler tired with less pace, it was easy picking for him at that time.

Also, in the case of Tendulkar, there was a fielder placed at the third man boundary, Rohit has a luxury with no fielder out there.

Though both the shots look similar, the pressure, the situation was quite different. This does not mean to demean Rohit’s effort; he scored a marvelous hundred for his team.

80% of the voters in Cricinfo poll feel the same (still few hrs to go for the final result).

Tendulkar’s reaction on the shot was quite sporting. He tweeted that both he and Rohit are from India and played for a similar domestic team (in Ranji and IPL).

What’s your pick in case you have to decide?
