Hearing the bail plea of the youth wing worker of the BJP in West Bengal, Priyanka Sharma, who was arrested for sharing a meme on West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, the apex court has observed that a conditional bail can be granted if she apologises for her actions.


Representing the petitioner Priyanka Sharma, senior counsel Neeraj Kishan Kaul expressed his astonishment on 14 days judicial custody for sharing a meme. He said it is a gross violation of Constitutional rights of a citizen. Kaul further argued that she had already deleted the post, now the meme is going viral on the Social Media and there are many others who are sharing the caricature.

Justice Indira Banerjee asked if the petitioner had any problem with tendering an apology. Another justice Sanjiv Khanna asserted that with the elections going on in the country and Priyanka being associated with a rival political party, the other side might take the meme differently.


Priyanka’s counsel objected to the request of the apology saying, “This will have a chilling effect on the Freedom of Expression in the country. For a meme that is not appreciated by some, others will have to apologise to get bail.” Asserting that it will set a wrong precedent, Kaul said that tomorrow people will be arrested for sharing flippant memes and will be forced to tender apologies for getting bail.

It is notable to mention that in the Bhima-Koregaon case, Justice D.Y Chandrachud, part of a three-judge bench headed by the Chief Justice Dipak Misra had observed, “Dissent is the safety valve of democracy. If dissent is not allowed, then the pressure cooker may burst.”

It may be noted that WB police have slapped the draconian Section 66A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, in the case, which has already been struck down by the Supreme Court calling it unconstitutional and an infringement on citizens’ fundamental right to know. The judicial provisions of the Act empowered the government to arrest a person for posting “offensive” content online. While the law was legislated to stop the misuse of social media, it was mostly exploited by people in authority against people who used social media to criticise those in power.

Responding to counsel Kaul’s apprehensions, Justice Indira Banerjee contended that Freedom of Expression is non-negotiable, but it cannot encroach upon another person’s rights. Kaul defended saying that the meme is doing the rounds and its a form of evolving caricature, humour and political satire.

Justice Banerjee replied that though the meme may be doing the rounds, it is wrong. However, the apex court modified its order of granting conditional bail on tendering of apology to the immediate release of BJP Youth wing worker Priyanka Sharma, dispensing with the condition of apology.


Though the highest court has done away with the conditional bail, Priyanka Sharma is still expected to apologise for sharing the meme.


Priyanka Sharma, the BJP Bengal youth leader, was arrested for merely sharing a meme caricaturing Banerjee on her Facebook Timeline on May 9, and was slapped with non-bailable charges and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.

A complaint against the convenor of BJYM, Priyanka Sharma was made by TMC leader Vibhas Hazra in Howrah for allegedly sharing a morphed picture of Mamata Banerjee. The MET Gala 2019 themed meme superimposed Mamata’s face on Priyanka Chopra’s body. She was arrested and produced in Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court in Howrah.

The copy of the complaint read that this act broke the community guidelines and it was being viewed as an issue of violence. “She has not only tried to insult our Hon’ble Chief Minister, but she is trying to insult the culture of our Bengal by her post on Facebook and which is Cyber Crime”, read the complaint.

The Telegraph joins the Opposition, article by Editor claims removing Modi from power is the only hope for India’s ‘redemption’

Indian mainstream media has been dangerously biased all these years. The distinct leftist leaning is often shamelessly displayed in their reportage and narrative. The bootlicking of anything remotely related to the Nehru-Gandhi clan and the disdain towards anything Indic with roots in Hinduism is a regular feature in most of India’s mainstream media scene, be it print or broadcast.

The blatant leftist and pro-Congress bias had never been more evident than the post-2014 era after PM Modi came to power with a thumping majority, the first single-party majority in almost three decades in India’s political history. Left-leaning media had almost immediately started hallucinating. The cries of ‘fear’, ‘intolerance’ and ‘Minorities under attack’ has been peddled a number of times by these media houses and the self-proclaimed ‘secular liberal’ brigade that employs each other’s children and praises each other using these mediums.

As elections draw to a close, the flimsy veil of neutrality has been shed and many in the media have virtually joined in the political battle. The article published in The Telegraph today, written by its editor R Rajagopal is another such acutely politically biased propaganda in the garb of ‘opinion’

The article published in the Telegraph today paints utterly elitist, self-righteous and sanctimonious propaganda insinuating that the winning of the Modi government in 2014 was a sign of India’s deterioration and if Modi gets re-elected, all hopes of our redemption as a society will be lost.

It peddles the imaginary fears often used by leftists, that their children are afraid, their Muslim friends are afraid and they themselves are afraid in Modi’s India. In this article, the writer claims that in post-2014 India, people have been making insensitive comments about other religions inside train compartments, something that, as per the writer’s insinuation had never happened before.

The writer also claims that parents in post-2014 India have made it a point to check their children’s lunch box, fearing whether they had packed some ‘leftover beef curry’. The same fear-mongering that these ‘secular liberals’ have been propagating as the impending apocalypse if Modi remains in power.

Going a step further and dismissing the people’s mandate that brought Modi to power, the writer even sermonises that if the people want to bring Modi to power again, then the people (or the country) will be beyond redemption.

Using underhanded tactics to peddle Rahul Gandhi, Mayawati and Mamata Banerjee as the crusaders of justice, the writer even claims that the question is not whether these people are capable, the question is whether we will allow them to change us. Further deepening the ambit of guilt on the people, by insinuating if they do not choose any of the above mentioned as their leader, they are doomed and don’t deserve to be saved.

MP Swapan Dasgupta has pointed the blatant political bias out. Drawing attention to the narrative of the article, Dasgupta has stated that if The Telegraph holds such biases, it should at least own it and make its readers aware of its political affiliation.


Attacking everything from Modi’s humble beginnings to foreign policy and economy, the writer presents a rather sad, constricted view of whiney criticism against Modi, picking up some busted myth from here and another dismissed claim from somewhere else, he attempts to paint a picture of a great humble Manmohan Singh versus a verbose, boastful Modi, assuming perhaps that the people of India can be shamed or guilt tripped enough to forget a non-responsive government post 26/11 or the monumental scams that took place under the rule of the Harvard economist PM.

The Telegraph, known for its headlines like ‘Aunty National’ when it is targetting the BJP leaders and singing the glory of Mamata Banerjee and Congress leaders has been called out by many over the months.


The Telegraph is well known for its Mamata bhakti and Modi hatred often exhibited through its headlines. It has spread dangerous lies regarding Polio Vaccines, attempted to paint Kanwariyas as perpetrators of violence when they were in fact, the victims and many such narratives. In another instant, they had deciphered the Sanskrit word ‘Purushartha’ as ‘manhood’ and had claimed that Smriti Irani has questioned Rahul Gandhi’s manhood.

Alam, his father Jehangir and others stab a man to death for protesting against his daughter’s harassment

In a horrifying incident in the national capital, a 51-year old businessman was stabbed to death for opposing his daughter’s harassment. The incident took place late Saturday night when Tyagi with his daughter were returning from a clinic and their neighbour Mohammad Alam allegedly passed a lewd remark on her.

Enraged, after dropping his daughter home, he went to Alam’s house to talk to his father, Jehangir but they got into an altercation where four people reportedly ganged up against Tyagi and stabbed him to death. His son, who had accompanied him to Alam’s house was also stabbed multiple times and is critical and recovering.

As reported by Times of India, at around midnight on Saturday night, Alam and his friends harass Tyagi and his daughter. Tyagi confronts them, but they abuse him and flee. Tyagi then drops off his daughter and goes to Alam’s house with his son to take it up with Alam’s father. When he’s inside, a dozen people surround him and beat him up. When Tyagi’s son tries to intervene, he is also beaten up.

Tyagi’s family, however, believes this was a planned attack as they were ready with the weapons to attack them. According to the initial autopsy report, Tyagi had three fatal wounds in his liver, kidney and intestines. He died because of heart failure caused by excessive bleeding. According to DCP (West) Monika Bhardwaj, a case which was registered under sections of attempt to murder will now be converted to a case of murder against the accused.

Alam and his father Jehangir along with other two accused are arrested by the police and probe is underway. Alam was earlier jailed in another attempt-to-murder case and was released recently. He has also been involved in other assault cases in the neighbourhood.

NDTV’s Prannoy Roy says youth voting for a strong leader is ‘worrying’, twists voter’s statements to further his own agenda

The 2019 Lok Sabha election has seen “journalists” who have thus far pretended to be neutral while subtly peddling their come out in the open and shamelessly further a line that shatters their carefully crafted image of political neutrality. NDTV’s Prannoy Roy, who is currently under the scanner for insider trading, did just about that when he was talking to young voters of Uttar Pradesh.

In the show, one can see the same youth telling Roy that they are based elsewhere (one said in Mumbai) and they have come all the way to Uttar Pradesh just to cast their vote for PM Modi.

The voter then says that he is a second time voter and the first time around too, he voted for Prime Minister Modi. Now, the young voter sort of punctured the bubble Roy was hoping to create, so, he digs a little more and asks him “vote zyada zor se denge ya thoda kam”. Basically, Prannoy Roy was fishing for one sentence from the voters’ mouth that he could spin as discontent.

One almost feels sorry for Prannoy Roy when the youth tell him that they will vote for Modi and ensure that others vote for him too.

After some silly joke that sounded both condescending and stupid, a sidekick of Prannoy Roy tries to change the narrative. He tells the voters that the local MP from the area has not done much work. The sidekick is also brushed aside when the voters tell him that they are not casting their vote for the local MP, they are casting their vote for Prime Minister Modi.

Then, the young voters of Uttar Pradesh are seen telling Prannoy Roy that they prefer a strong, fearless Prime Minister like Narendra Modi. They say that he gives his speeches not from behind a bullet proof glass but talks from amidst the people. He stands by what he think is right and faces challenges head on.

One can almost see the colour leave Prannoy Roy’s face and his usual studio glow disappearing into the Uttar Pradesh heat.

Unfortunately, with these determined voters, the several twists and turns did not work. They stayed unwavering in their support to Modi.

What was Prannoy Roy to do? Roll over and accept that people support Modi? Of course not.

Out from the Uttar Pradesh heat, Prannoy Roy gets his studio sheen back while discussing this segment with fellow propagandists. Stammering, Roy says that these youth want to vote for Modi and have come back to UP just to cast their votes.

However, (there has to be a ‘however’), sometimes their reasons for voting for Modi is “worrisome”, according to Prannoy Roy. Continuing to stammer, he says the worrying part is that they want a “strong leader”.

Perhaps Prannoy Roy got extremely worried about the youth wanting a “strong leader” because if they do, they would perhaps never vote for Rahul Gandhi or the mixed bag mahagathbandhan that the NDTV has been batting for. Or perhaps, Roy doesn’t want the people to vote for a “strong leader” because that would also mean that the stream of doles to the Lutyens elite would remain dried up till a “weak leader” heading a “weak Congress government” doesn’t come to power. After all, we must not forget that there are accusation that NDTV itself was involved in the Aircel Maxis scam along with Congress leader P Chidambaram.

Then, Prannoy Roy outdos himself by lying blatantly and twisting the words of a voter just to suit his agenda.

After he got “worried” about people wanting a strong leader, Roy says that it is worrying that one voter did not want elections at all after 2019.

In actuality, the voter had simply said that PM Modi should be given a chance for another 5 years after he comes back to power in 2019, and then another 5 years. Only after Prannoy Roy joked about whether he wants PM Modi to stay in power ‘forever’, the voter jokes and says that there should be no election and Modi should stay in power forever. Then, Roy proceeds to bully the voter along with some shreiky woman from the background who keeps telling him that this is a dangerous thought.

This entire sequence gives a glimpse into just how shameless, brazen and elitist the Lutyens gang really is. Roy not only bullied voters and tries to get them to say something that he could then use to peddle his agenda, he also shamelessly twisted the words of a poor voter from Uttar Pradesh who is probably not as careful with his words as the studio sheen anchors.

Roy displayed no empathy and no willingness to truly understand what the voters want. Why they want PM Modi to stay in power or why they have travelled hundreds of kilometers to cast their vote in favour of the Prime Minister. Roy did not care what Modi has done for Varanasi when the voter was trying to tell him about the work done.

Roy had made up his mind. They either show disconetnt towards Modi or he will simply bully them, misreprent their words and confuse them to give him what he needs to run a show intellectualising 2019 elections.

This segment was also a stark example of what Prime Minister Modi had said in his recent interview to Indian Express.

Taking on Rahul Gandhi’s campaign strategy which was to destroy Modi’s incorruptible image, PM Modi said, “Modi ki chhavi, Delhi ke Khan Market ke gang ne nahin banayi hai, Lutyens Delhi ne nahin banayi hai. 45 saal ki Modi ki tapasya ne chhavi banayi hai. Achchi hai ya buri hai. (Modi’s image, whether good or bad, has not been made by the Khan Market gang or the Lutyens Delhi. It has been built by hard work of over 45years.) You cannot dismantle it.”

The support that the Prime Minister enjoys is indeed because of his tapasya and not by the manicured, wine-sipping studio sheen anchors like Prannoy Roy. This video was indeed a reminder of just how disconnected the Lutyens gang is from the realities of the ground and how, no matter how hard they try, they can simply never understand what the average voter wants.

Rajeshwar Shastri Musalgaonkar, a Sanskrit and astrology professor at Ujjain’s Vikram University put up a prediction on his Facebook profile that Prime Minister Modi will return in his second term with BJP getting close to 300 seats and NDA crossing the 300-figure mark. Kamal Nath-led Congress government in Madhya Pradesh suspended him on disciplinary grounds and attached him to another department.

As per reports, on April 28, professor Musalgaonkar had posted on Facebook, “BJP near 300 and NDA across 300” as a prediction for the results of 2019 Lok Sabha Election. Shastri being a government employee, this was considered a violation of the model code of conduct by the university authorities. Shastri heads the department of Sanskrit-Ved-Jyotirvigyan at Vikram University.

As per reports, he says he is apolitical and was responding to a query by one of his students. As a professor of astrology, he was predicting the outcome based on the current political scenario along with the impact of planets on the political parties as a response to a student’s query. The Facebook comment, he claims, was posted by his student without his knowledge. He says that he deleted the post the next day when he became aware of it and even apologised for it.

However, acting on a complaint filed by an Ujjain-based Youth Congress worker, Babloo Khinchi, the district returning officer recommended suspension of Shastri and wrote to the divisional commissioner. He was suspended from May 7 onward and attached to another department. The professor has also now said that he will move the high court challenging the Kamal Nath government’s suspension order.

Violence continues in West Bengal: TMC goons assault BJP leaders, attack house and car

BJP leader Arvind Menon and some district leaders were attacked by TMC goons last night. As per a report in Times Now, Menon was holding a meeting with the district BJP leaders in Barasat at the residence of one of the leaders when TMC goons allegedly barged into the house.


As per reports, Menon’s meeting with the district BJP leaders was scheduled to be held at a hotel. But after reports that TMC goons are roaming around the hotel and they might create a problem, the meeting was shifted to the residence of one of the leaders.

As the meeting was underway, TMC goons allegedly barged into the house and confronted the BJP leaders claiming that they are hoarding money for distribution before the elections. Barasat will vote in the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections, on 19 May.

Reports state that TMC workers had ransacked the house of the BJP leader Tuhin Mondal. They also vandalised Arvind Menon’s car. Both Mondal and Menon were also allegedly manhandled and assaulted by the TMC goons.

As per the report, the TMC goons created a ruckus inside the BJP leader’s house and it became so chaotic that the police had to intervene. The report states that Arvind Menon had to be rescued from the TMC goons. The police, however, took Meon to the police station.

Outside the police station, there was again altercations between TMC goons and the BJP workers who had assembled to inquire why their party leader has been taken to the police station. Barasat’s TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar too reportedly reached the station and levelled the same allegations on Menon.

The drama at the police station reportedly continued till late night and Menon was allowed to leave the station only after BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya reached there.

Political violence has been rampant in West Bengal during and even before the general elections. Recently, a BJP booth president in Jhargram, Raman Singh was beaten to death by TMC goons.

Yesterday, Mamata Banerjee’s government had denied permission to BJP President Amit Shah from landing his chopper and holding a rally in Jadavpur. Even polling malpractice, proxy voting and violent clashes have been a regular occurrence in the state. Mamata Banerjee herself has been showing very hostile behaviour towards BJP leaders and even PM Modi. Mamata’s government has even declined the Prime Minister’s request to hold a review meeting to discuss relief and reconstruction works after Cyclone Fani.

A week ago, the TMC goons had also attacked the cavalcade of BJP leaders Himanta Biswa Sharma and Dilip Ghosh in Kanthi Lok Sabha constituency. A large group of TMC goons had blocked the road, smashed the windscreens and had damaged over 20 motorbikes in the cavalcade while West Bengal police watched as mute spectators.

Just a few days ago, Prime Minister Modi, in his interview to Indian Express had slammed the ‘Khan Market gang’. He said that his image was not made by the Khan Market gang or the Lutyens Delhi to be dismantled so easily.

Since Prime Minister dismantled the claim that his image was being destroyed by Rahul Gandhi, the media had to come up with an alternate narrative. And fast.

Economic Times stepped up to the challenge and decided to go provoke the traders and merchants of Khan Market against Prime Minister Modi.

The Economic Times actually approached the traders and merchants of Khan Market in the hope that they would say they have taken offence to PM Modi’s reference to the ‘Khan Market gang’. The media hoped that the merchants of Khan Market would not understand what the Prime Minister meant when he spoke of the ‘Khan Market gang’ and view this comment as an insult to the traders of the upscale market.

Interestingly, the response that was received by ET was rather telling. The paper quotes a merchant, Sanjiv Mehra of Allied Stores at Khan Market, saying that “He was not referring to the shopkeepers and the customers of Khan Market when he spoke about the Khan Market gang”.

Another shopkeeper who wished to be kept anonymous said, “In the last five to seven years, Khan Market has become famous for political brokers who sit in the cafes in the market – that is what the prime minister was referring to, not shopkeepers”.

Much to the chagrin of the Media, the traders of Khan Market and voters, in general, are maturing to the media tactics and understand exactly what political statements mean. It is becoming increasingly difficult for the media to twist words and mislead people into getting the reaction they truly desire.

From the statements of the two shopkeepers quotes by Economic Times, it is evident that the journalist from ET went there to provoke the merchants into saying something against the Prime Minister. The journalist hoped that the shopkeepers would not understand the PM meant the quintessential political elite, journalist and power brokers who haunt the cafes of Khan Market. But the shopkeepers were wiser.

In fact, the ET was so desperate to twist the narrative around on this statement, that they even approached the Khan Market Traders’ Association, who refused to comment on this media circus.

Prime Minister seems to have hit where it hurts the most. Rahul Gandhi has been hailed as the messiah who can dismantle Modi’s incorruptible image. This also seems to be the reason that the media has shied away from asking Rahul Gandhi any pertinent questions. In all his interviews, Rahul hasn’t been asked about the corruption cases against him. In fact, he hasn’t even been asked to justify his allegations and the outlandish numbers he keeps throwing about every now and then.

With his recent comment, PM Modi not only ensures that the media gets a message but also indicate that Rahul Gandhi is the typical political elite who is disconnected from the masses. He, Modi indicated, cannot dismantle his image because brand Modi has been made by the people, not the political elite like Rahul Gandhi. This media, by trying to provoke Khan Market shopkeepers tried to change the narrative back to how people are perhaps moving towards Rahul Gandhi politically, only to get a befitting response.

In a gross violation of Election Commission rules, IANS publishes a comprehensive Exit Poll for 2019 Lok Sabha elections

Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), in a gross violation of the Model Code of Conduct rules, published a comprehensive Exit Poll on 12th May 2019. IANS tweeted a survey of voters which was, according to them, undertaken by institutions and calculations by independent psephologists.


In the Exit Poll, IANS has asserted that there seems to be unanimity between psephologists regarding the possible outcome of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The results of these elections are set to be declared on 23rd May.

Using powers under the Representation of People Act, 1951, EC banned exit polls from the time the poll begins till half-an-hour after the polling ends since 1998.

The last phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections is still to conclude. The Election Commission had spread this election out in 7 phases. Up until now, 6 phases of the elections have concluded and the last phase is set to take place on Sunday, 19th May 2019.

The clinching fact that IANS itself tweeted about how their numbers depend on “a survey of voters” makes this a breach of Election rules as they are not allowed to published Exit Polls till 30 minutes of the conclusion of all phases of voting.

It remains to be seen whether the Election Commission would take any action against IANS. Earlier too, when Swaraj Express had aired Exit Polls, many psephologists believe that in the age of the internet, this rule by the Election Commission may as well be reduntant because it is difficult to monitor what is being published on the internet.

Earlier, Swaraj Express, an online media portal, appeared to air an exit poll of elections in a gross violation of Election Commission regulations. Vinod Dua, who had allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him in the past, was anchoring the show. The video has apparently been removed from YouTube. Just when you thought Congress cannot damage itself any further, it unleashes Mani Shankar Aiyar to make situation created by Sam Pitroda even worse. In an article published in Shekhar Gupta’s ThePrint, Mani Shankar Aiyar manages to mock Hindus, the RSS, Gujarat all while justifying his ‘neech aadmi‘ comment he made on Prime Minister Modi in December 2017 ahead of Gujarat Assembly elections.

Aiyar writes how he is so confident that Modi will be ousted on 23rd May and it will be a ‘fitting end’ to the ‘most foul-mouthed’ prime minister India has ever had. Like a cherry on the cake, he tops it off with saying, “Remember how I described him on 7 December 2017? Was I not prophetic?”

On December 7, 2017, he had described PM Modi as ‘neech kisam ka aadmi’ (a lowly casteist slur).


Yes, a senior Congress leader just went on record to justify his casteist slur against the prime minister and even took pride in it by saying how he was ‘prophetic’ about it. Let that sink in.

Mani Shankar Aiyar has a knack of making such self-goals for Congress right when things have heated up which could turn the tides in the BJP’s favour. Mani Shankar Aiyar is widely believed to have helped Modi in his 2014 campaign when he used the term “chaiwala” (tea seller) as an insult for the then BJP Prime Ministerial candidate.

Senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda was recently caught making self-goals for the Congress and embarrassing the party by casually shrugging off the 1984 Sikh genocide by his ‘hua to hua’ (it happened, so what?) comment. Earlier he had downplayed the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks by saying that Indians are like monkeys.


Congress-loyalist media persons too took it to Twitter to express how he has joined Pitroda in ‘damaging the party’ in middle of elections.


Mani Shankar Aiyar is prone to putting his foot in his mouth when it comes to scoring self goal by making controversial statements. While he was ‘suspended’ from the party after his ‘neech aadmi’ comment in December 2017, he was taken back in in August 2018.

Aiyar was also found shaming India in Pakistan when he hailed Mohammad Ali Jinnah for his role in freedom movement and even referred to him as Quaid-e-Azam while defending him for his role in the partition. Earlier he had called for the support of Pakistan to not only remove the current government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi but also to help Congress come to power.

In West Bengal, “Jai Shri Ram” has become a focal point of the Lok Sabha Elections in the state. While Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken to confronting people on the streets for chanting the slogan terming it an abuse, the Bharatiya Janata Party has turned into a cry of protest against the tyrannical conduct of the Trinamool government.

At a rally in Jaynagar, BJP President Amit Shah dared Mamata Banerjee to arrest him for chanting “Jai Shri Ram”.


He said, “Mamata di gets angry if someone chants Jai Shri Ram. I am chanting Jai Shri Ram here today. If you (Mamata) have the guts, arrest me. I will be in Kolkata tomorrow.”

Shah’s scheduled roadshow at Jadavpur was called off after permission was denied for his chopper to land at Baruipur. He stated, “The Mamata Banerjee government is visibly perplexed. She wants to stop me from attending rallies. The TMC can stop me from addressing rallies, but can’t stop the victory march of BJP in Bengal.”

The 7 seats in Kolkata will go to polls on the 19th of May in the last phase of the elections. Throughout the duration of the campaign and polling, BJP leaders have been denied permission for rallies and violence has been rampant.
