FIR ordered against Digvijay Singh, Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia for submitting false evidence in Vyapam

0

A Bhopal court has directed police to FIR against in Congress leaders Kamal Nath, Digvijay Singh, Jyotiraditya Scindia and whistleblower Prashant Pandey in the Vyapam scam case. A district court in Bhopal issued this order to Shyamala Hills police station in Bhopal, on the accusation of submitting false evidence in High Court and Supreme Court. The police have to file the FIR by October 4 and submit a detail report by November 13.

The court order has come as a complaint filed by BJP law cell under several sections of IPC including 420, 466 and 468. The complaint alleges that the Congress leaders have misled the court by submitting forged documents before Madhya Pradesh High Court. The petition also alleges that the Congress leaders are trying to mislead the court and manipulate the investigation into the scam.

“Hearing our pleas and going through the evidence, the court was of the view that it was a cognizable offence and ordered an FIR against the Congress leaders and whistleblower Prashant Pandey under Sections 464, 468, 470, 471, 474 and 120 B of IPC,” the petitioner Santosh Sharma said. Sharma is an advocate and head of BJP’s law cell in the state.

This petition has come as a counter-petition filed by Digvijay Singh against several BJP leaders last week. On 19 September, Digvijay Singh had filed the petition accusing that MP Chief Minister Shivraj Sing Chauhan is at the root of the Vyapam Scam. He had also submitted around 27,000 pages of documents related to Scam along with the petition. Senior lawyer Kapil Sibal had represented Singh in the court.

The Congress leaders had alleged that a hard disk related to the case was tampered with. Sibal said that CM’s name appeared 48 times in the disk, which was removed by police. Sibal claimed he had sent the data to Truth Lab in Bengaluru and they had found that data was tampered with.

But, Forensic Science Laboratory in Hyderabad had concluded that disk was not tampered with, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan was already given a clean shit by Supreme Court two years ago in the matter based on the FSL. Therefore, BJP alleges that Congress is misleading the court by again saying that disk tampered when SC has already accepted the FSL report that disk was genuine.

Antigua assures full cooperation in extradition of multi-crore scam accused Mehul Choksi

0

The Foreign Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, EP Chet Greene, has assured his Indian counterpart External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj full cooperation in extradition of multi-crore PNB scam accused Mehul Choksi, who has last year taken citizenship of Antigua.

The issue of extradition was raised by Swaraj during the bilateral meeting held with the Antiguan Foreign Minister on the sidelines of the 73rd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session currently underway in New York. Expressing their commitment towards Choksi’s extradition, Antiguan Foreign Minister said that their government is trying their best.

The financial fraud accused Mehul Choksi had recently announced he had become a citizen of the Carribean island Antigua in November 2017 for expanding his business. Antigua is known for providing visa free travel to 132 countries and freedom from extradition. Choksi, along with his nephew Nirav Modi are wanted in connection with a Rs 13,000 crore financial fraud against Punjab National Bank.

Fact-Check: Congress mouthpiece National Herald’s lies about Japan withdrawing funding for bullet train

On September 25, Congress mouthpiece National Herald reported that Japan has stopped providing funds for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. In an article titled “PM Modi’s Bullet Train dream derails after Japan stops funding”, it had reported that the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has stopped funding for the project.

The report states that the funding agency is not happy with the farmers’ protest over land acquisition for the ambitious project, and it has released only ₹125 crore against a total commitment of ₹80,000 crore for the project. This was reported by some other media houses too.

Few hours after the report was published, India had rubbished it. National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL), the nodal agency for the execution of the project, had said that the report is false and not based on facts. “In fact, the GoI and JICA have already signed a loan agreement of about 10 billion yen and no payment is pending from JICA as on date,” NHSRCL had said in a statement.

NHSRCL had stated that it is committed to the interest of the farmers. Several farmers affected by land acquisition are demanding more compensation and other amenities like common ponds, schools, solar lights and doctors in their villages. They have also written to Japan government and JICA with their demands.

Gujarat BJP president Jitu Vaghani, who shared the statement issued by NHSRCL, told reporters, “I condemn the misinformation campaign against the project being carried out by the Congress leaders. They are anti-Gujarat and anti-development. There is no merit in the claims that JICA has stopped funds for the project”

After India, today Japanese Ambassador to India refuted the allegations. Ambassador Kenji Hiramatsu said that they are going to continue the fund for the ambitious project and there is no truth in the report that funding has been stopped. The Ambassador said, “Everything is going very well. We are very happy, there is a collaboration between Japan/Indian authorities on this project”. Hiramatsu also said that the project would be completed within the 2022 deadline for the project.

This is not the first time that Congress mouthpiece National Herald has been caught lying. Recently, Anil Ambani had filed a Rs. 5,000 crore defamation suit against National Herald for writing a piece laden with conjectures in the Rafale deal. The publication has also distorted facts to attack Piyush Goyal and the Gujarat government.

Pro-Kannada activists threaten Sunny Leone prior to her show in Bengaluru

Film actor Sunny Leone, who is set to give her debut performance in Bengaluru, got veiled threats from pro-Kannada activists that unless the event gives prominence to Kannada culture, they will approach the home minister and the police commissioner and get the event cancelled. Earlier, the Kannada activists had announced that they would hold massive protests across the state demanding a complete ban on Leone.

However, they have now softened their stand and said that since Kannada Rajyotsava is celebrated in November, Kannada should be promoted. Hence, according to Praveen Shetty, president of Kannada Rakshana Vedike (KRV), if Leone’s programme isn’t in Kannada, they will request the home minister and the police commissioner to cancel it. The organisers have already taken permission as a precautionary measure to avoid any clashes.

Earlier this year, the Siddaramaiah led Congress government in Karnataka had denied permission to Sunny Leone to perform at New Year’s Eve show in Bengaluru, fearing law and order problems. Even then, KRV had protested against her show claiming that her performance would be an ‘assault on Kannada culture and tradition and will corrupt young minds.’

Earlier this month, on Hindi Diwas, KRV activists had blackened Hindi signages on national highway, as a mark of protest against the so-called Hindi imposition by the Centre. In July this year KRV activists had stopped screening of Rajinikanth starrer Kaala against the superstar’s remarks on Cauvery.

The sordid and shameful whitewashing of rape accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal

0

It is a well-known truth that the Catholic Church is a powerful institution in the state of Kerala. It is also well-known that the Church heads are questioned by none, as their authority is supposed to be beyond criticism. Bishop Franco Mulakkal, it seems, is no exception.

Even after two weeks of long protests by five nuns against Bishop Franco Mulakkal, the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jalandhar, who is accused of raping a nun from Missionaries of Jesus (MJ) Congregation, officials of the congregation are busy whitewashing the heinous crime by playing the victim-blaming card.

Recently in a press release issued by Sister Regina, Mother General of the MJ congregation, she said that they will be fasting for the accused Bishop on Wednesday, as they believe he is innocent. The congregation is in “deep sorrow and anguish” that “our innocent father Bishop Franco Mulakkal had to face arrest and jail for a crime he has not committed,” said Sister Regina in the press release.

Shifting the blame on the police, Sister Regina and team allege that a ‘grave situation’ has arisen as the police have targeted their congregation with “a clear agenda” and arrested the prelate without any concrete pieces of evidence.

She, in her desperate attempt to defend the accused Bishop, went on to castigate the police for pursuing the case “We noticed that the investigation team members and the nuns of the Kuravilangad convent have been sharing some lighter moments in the convent till 2 am in the recent days. We would like to assert that this is in violation of the convent rules. We suspect that there is a conspiracy behind the move and they have joined together to create more proof against the bishop.”

However, these assertions should not come as a surprise considering the Missionary of Jesus Congregation has previously also slandered the victim and stood in support of the accused Bishop calling him “an innocent soul”. In their pursuit to prove the Bishop innocent, the Congregation had claimed of conducting an inquiry and released a “preliminary inquiry report” defending the Bishop to be virtuous and called the misdemeanour a ‘conspiracy’.

In fact, Sister Alphonso, who happens to be the secretary to the present Mother Superior, was also caught on camera slamming the nun who accused the Bishop Franco Mukkalal of rape.

This incident came to the light when a nun accused the Bishop Franco Mullakkal of Jalandhar diocese of committing rape and unnatural sex with her between 2014 and 2016 on 13 different occasions. The nun had further alleged that she had approached the Syro-Malabar Church authorities over the matter but no action was taken against the Bishop which made her approach the Police.

It is pertinent to mention that the alleged victim had written to the Vatican seeking justice. But given the history of the Vatican, which has a track record of covering up sexual abuse by its clergy, it is unclear whether the Vatican will be inclined to turn the tides for her. It is also pertinent to mention that Pope Francis himself has been accused by an Archbishop of elevating a sexual predator to a position of power despite being aware of the sexual abuse allegations against him.

The minute the incident caught public attention the churches and its entire concorded ecosystem swiftly reacted to shield the Bishop. Magazines suddenly came up with articles praising the Bishop. The influential and powerful people of the society, like Kerala MLA PC George, came up with statements disparaging the nun, who is actually the victim in this case and needed the support indeed.

Shockingly, one of the nuns who dared to stand up for the victim and attempted to speak against the atrocities had been dismissed by the Syro-Malabar church. Though the order was reverted later after media outrage.

The culture of shielding the accused and blaming the victim of Catholic Church’s is a well-established fact, but what is alarming is that even the political parties in the state are yet to show their strength to seek justice in one of the most sensational cases the state has witnessed in connection with the Church.

A protest was organised lately by the youth organisations under the United Democratic Front – that is in the opposition – in front of the Secretariat. But instead of raising the Bishop Franco case, for which the protest was technically organised, the party took a political stance, focusing on sexual harassment cases since the CPI (M) led Left Democratic Front came to power.

Cases of sexual abuse by priests have long been reported in India and the world. what becomes most bothersome is when the entire ecosystem starts advocating the wrongdoer because of the position he holds and power he adheres.

Indian Airforce Deputy Chief calls out Rahul Gandhi’s Rafale mumbo jumbo

Just a day after Rahul Gandhi promised justice for IAF soldiers and martyrs, most of whom have been victims of crashes in planes bought by previous Congress governments and made by HAL, the Deputy Chief Air Staff has rebutted Rahul Gandhi’s allegations about the Rafale deal. In an exclusive interview with India Today, Air Marshal Raghunath Nambiar has cleared the misinformation being spread about the size of offset business that Anil Ambani led Reliance is getting.

Flatly refuting the allegation of Reliance getting offset business worth ₹30,000 crore in the Rafale deal, Nambiar said that IAF has been part of the commercial negotiation for the purchase of MMRCAs, and no single party is getting business of that much amount, not even Dassault. Making a very significant revelation he said, “People are perhaps misinformed. We were a part of the commercial negotiations for Rafale. There is nothing like ₹30,000 crore to any one party. Dassault has to do offsets to a tune of ₹6,500 crore. Not more than that”. Rahul Gandhi has been alleging that ₹30,000 has been “stolen from HAL and given away to a given to a man with no SKILLS in making aircraft”.

It is important to note that the offset obligation of Dassault is ₹6,500 crore, not ₹30,000 as being alleged by the Congress party. Many would perhaps wonder how that is possible since the Rafale deal is around ₹58,000 crore and hence the offset obligation should ideally be ₹29,000 crore. One could ask why IAF deputy chief is saying that it is ₹6,500 crore only? The IAF deputy chief’s statements would mean that the deal with Dassault is worth ₹13,000 crore.

To understand this, we need to know how aeroplanes are purchased. They are not bought as one piece like a car, but the major components are bought separately from respective manufacturers which are fitted into the plane by the manufacturer of the plane. In case of civilian aircraft, separate deals are signed with aircraft makers (Boeing, Airbus etc) and engine makers (GE, Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney etc). In the case of fighter jets, the number of components and their supplier is much more, and buyers deal directly with them. Apart from the main airframe, a fighter plane has an engine, weapon systems, missiles, radar systems, electronic warfare systems, evasion systems, ejection seats etc, all of which are made by different companies.

In case of the Rafale deal, there are four main suppliers, Dassault, Safran which makes the engine, Thales which makes several electrical, electronic systems and sensors, and MBDA which will supply missiles. The jets will carry advance missiles like Meteor and Scalp, and cutting-edge RBE 2 AESA radar. That’s why Dassault’s share in the deal is ₹13,000 crore, as the rest amount will be paid to other component and weapon suppliers. It this, the Thales deal is around $2 billion, and they have their own offset obligation of $1 billion, or around ₹7,250 crores. The Rafale will also have several Israeli components, including the Litening pod.

All these companies will have to fulfil their offset obligations. Thales has formed a joint venture with Reliance Defence, while the company already have a JV with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). Safran has a Joint venture with HAL to make parts for the engine. Apart from the JV with Reliance, Dassault has signed agreements with several companies including BEL, L&T, Mahindra etc. Therefore it is clear that Reliance can’t get ₹30,000 from the deal as Rahul Gandhi alleges. That is more than the approximate figure Dassault and Thales is receiving in total, which whom Reliance Defence has JVs. Reliance has already said that its share in the offset is ₹6,600. According to IAF sources, the share of DRDO in offset is highest.

The Air Marshal also added that India has got a better price, better maintenance terms, better delivery schedule, and a better performance logistics package in the deal to buy 36 fighter jets.

This assertion by Indian Air Force proves that Rahul Gandhi is spreading nothing but lies about the Rafale deal, which is being busted on a regular basis.

Battle of narratives: The non-left is trying, but the macro-narrative is still firmly under Left’s control

0

Narendra Modi has been the Prime Minister of India for the last four years. His entry in the Prime Ministers office was expected to single-handedly change the way India will project itself to the world. The thought process was, “Modiji aayenge aur sab kuch badal jaayega”. All we need is that a BJP leader becomes the Prime Minister and everything will fall in order as the narrative will swing in our favour. But has that happened? A few days ago I was having a very detailed conversation about this subject with a few of my fellow colleagues in the Non-Left. The aim was to have an honest assessment of where do we stand in terms of the narrative war.

Before we get into a detailed assessment it is very important that we define what I mean by the word narrative. Narratives are of two types according to me, there is a macro narrative and within them there are micro-narratives. Macro-narrative is the overall operating system that is used in a society. This operating system incorporates within itself the entire terms and conditions of the discourse. What language is going to be used, what are the idioms/terms that we use while we express ourselves to each other when we converse on a day to day basis.

Micro-narratives are the subset of the larger macro-narrative. They are the battles within the larger war. They are issue-based tussles that are conducted on a daily basis in different sections of our society.

So how are we faring in this narrative war? Within this larger narrative war, there is still some glimmer of hope. Let us first look at some of the micro-narrative victories. Over the last few years, the Hindu movement has had some positive results within the realm of the micro-narrative. A great example of that would be the India Pride Project. This is a perfect example of battle within the larger war. IPP ticks all the boxes that would qualify as a narrative win. At the political level, the IPP has been supported by people across the political spectrum. While the BJP and Prime Minister Modi have personally received idols that have been returned from various countries, Shashi Tharoor of the Congress and the AIADMK have also been asking questions in the parliament about the status of our heritage crimes and heritage restitution we can firmly say that the IPP’s work is a micro-narrative victory.

One more example of a larger narrative war is what Indic Collective has managed to do with the Jagganath Temple and Sabrimala Temple case where he has managed to even get a chunk of the other side to find merit in his arguments. The Nationalism sentiment, for example, has been accepted widely, while the narrative of the ‘me too urban Naxal’ has lost credibility even in all its grandiose. The victory of the larger narrative war was reflected beautifully in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. Majority Hindus of the country believe that the Hindu community deserves a Ram Temple built in Ayodhya, even if they don’t believe in the spirituality or religiosity of the temple itself. Even atheists like me today believe that the Ram Temple must be built.

An example of a micro-narrative victory would be the debate on cow protection. It can be firmly stated that on this subject that the Indian political spectrum has slowly but surely shifted to the position of the Non-Left. Have any doubts? Well, when you have a senior Congress leader like Kamal Nath tweeting “We will build gaushalas in every panchayat. This is not rhetoric but a promise,” you can safely conclude that the terms of the discourse as far as cow protection is concerned are being set by the Indian Non-Left. If this was not enough as per this news report the Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy who is a leader of the Congress party in the state of Karnataka has been quoted saying ” None of us has the right to kill animals, which are the creation of god. All of us worship cows and it should not be slaughtered. Personally, I object to the killing of any animals. Let BJP leaders put pressure on the Central government to ban all slaughterhouses and ban the export of beef. A large number of beef export units are functioning in Uttar Pradesh. Let them ban those units”

But this is where the “good news” ends. We can go on searching the internet and all we find is multiple micro-narrative victories achieved due to the good work of some hard-working individuals here and there. While we should be celebrating this there is still a lot of work to be done. If we were to do an honest assessment of the Indian socio-political landscape as of today when it comes to the macro-narrative the Indian Non-Left is a minor player in the game. The entire Non-Left movement is by and large a reaction to the mainstream establishment. The Non-Left has very little to offer in terms of a stand-alone ideology.

For any movement to have a long-lasting effect it needs to showcase what it stands for. When someone constantly keeps reacting to the points raised by the other side it stops achieving anything significant beyond a certain point. The Non-Left says they don’t like the Congress’ Brand of Secularism. They say they don’t like Constitutional Patriotism that is espoused by the Left. They don’t like the appeasement policies of the different political outfits in India. Fair enough, but what do they like? If they are clear about these things, have they ever gone about explaining it to the average Indian citizen? By constantly pointing out the faults of the Left we might have disenchanted a few people and made them steer away from the Left temporarily. But are they with the Non-Left? Also, while they have been steered away from the left politically, what language are they still using to reject the left? Is this language different, or it is an old wine in a new bottle?

It is high time that the Non-Left starts setting its own agenda. For that, we will have to use precise terms to express our point of view. We will have to define those terms in detail. We will have to identify the doers, the thinkers, bring them on a platform where they can share their achievements and reach out to the masses. Instead of reacting to the labels given by the Left, the Non-Left should start presenting its own point of view to the larger audience using its own terms. A great example of that would be the #UrbanNaxal. The term is not a mere reaction. It is a well thought out analysis of a threatening ideology that is spreading like cancer across urban India. A thriving narrative is set when there is a well-defined and well-espoused ideology to back it. The left ecosystem has a plethora of literature that they can fall back on. And the production of that literature is not a one-time process. It is a constant reproduction of material that keeps on updating itself as per the changing socio-political climate of the country. That literature is then consumed by the masses that eventually go and occupy positions of power and eminence across the Indian establishment. Can the Non-left claim have such a vast literature? Can we start by creating a list of activists, authors, lawyers, scientists, philosophers, media personalities who belong to the Non-Left?

Macro-Narrative is the language of the establishment. It is the template that is downloaded into your brain and updated on a regular basis. I would like to take this opportunity to clarify what I mean by the word establishment. I would be using the definition provided by Rahul Roushan where he says ” Establishment is the bunch that systematically controls your thoughts through media and academics + controls your speech and actions through the judiciary, not the government that’s there for 5 years.”

So if we were to use this definition and do a detailed analysis of the overall macro-narrative system it will be very clear that the operating system that we work on today at the societal level is firmly set by the Indian Left. The macro-narrative is firmly under the control of the left and there is no real opposition to it at a political or an intellectual level. Senator Ted Cruz had once said, ” In both law and politics, I think the essential battle is the meta-battle of framing the narrative.” It is time we take that seriously and do something about it.

Remember that Sardar kid who cried as India tied with Afghanistan? He is now preparing to celebrate on Friday

0

Last night, as India tied with Afghanistan in the Asia Cup last night, moving to Finals, an image of a kid sobbing at not being able to celebrate victory went viral on the Internet.

Sardar kid crying after India tied with Afghanistan

The Internet was moved by the pureness in the boy as many perhaps saw their own childhood in the innocence of the child.

The men in blue were also moved to see the child cry. While Harbhajan Singh consoled him on Twitter saying that the finals, which will be held on Friday (against either Pakistan or Bangladesh, depending on the match today), will be won by India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar called and cheered him up.

And now, along with him, we all look forward to the victory on Friday. Here’s to team India.

Violence at Banaras Hindu University, students asked to vacate hostels

0

The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) on Tuesday has suspended classes till the 28th of September and ordered at least five of its hostels to be vacated within 24 hours following violence and arson in the campus late at night.

As per reports, the violence was a consequence of a dispute over treatment at Sir Sunder Lal (SSL) hospital of BHU. Following the dispute, clashes erupted between the students and resident doctors on the campus, injuring several people. Reportedly, former BHU student Shivajit Kumar had taken his relative to SSL for treatment but the doctors refused to admit the patient. An altercation then broke out between Shivajit and a resident doctor following which students who came out in support of Shivajit torched a security booth on campus. The clash with junior doctors followed later at night.

According to reports, Shivajit has been booked under various sections of the IPC. “Shivajit has been booked under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of IPC,” said Lanka Inspector Bharat Bhushan Tiwari.

The Hospital administration stated that a crisis team had been created to ensure that services were provided as smoothly as possible. “The OPD and emergency services continued to function normally as per schedule. A crisis management group of doctors was constituted to handle the situation and maintain smooth functioning of the hospital,” medical superintendent of SSL Hospital Prof. Vijay Nath Mishra said.

Students are now protesting against the administration’s decision to vacate the hostels. ANI quoted one of the protesters saying, “We want hostels back. There is a video of Chief Proctor instigating students for violence. We demand her dismissal and an inquiry to be set up.”
