Congress and media trolls suffer a meltdown after Exit Polls predict BJP victory in Gujarat

0

On Thursday soon after completion of the second phase of Gujarat elections, psephologists and polling companies started to publish their exit poll predictions for the state.

As reported, most of the exit polls predicted a clear majority for the BJP with the Times Now-VMR and Republic TV exit polls predicting 109 and 108 seats respectively out of a total 182 for the ruling party. The Congress was pegged to come a distant second with about 70-74 seats. The ABP-CSDS exit poll projected a 99-113 seat trend for the BJP.

Today’s Chanakya which had accurately predicted the 2014 lok sabha elections, went a step ahead and gave the BJP 135 seats. Even the NDTV brought good news for the BJP by projecting that it would bag about 112 seats.

Such projections though seemed become a major source of disappointment for certain Congress leaders and media trolls, who might have found BJP’s ‘prosperity’ unpalatable. But rather than constructively analysing the results, they decided to go in meltdown mode, as evident by their tweets.

Hardik Patel who has prominently emerged as the Patidar face of the Congress decided to point the finger at the EVMs and claimed that the nation should introspect over the matter of EVM malfunctioning:

Congress supporter Tehseen Poonawalla, who is not related to Billionaire Cyrus Poonawalla, decided to take the blame the EVM route:

He didn’t stop at that and decided to even start attacking VVPATs:

Abusive troll and so-called journalist Swati Chaturvedi decided to bring into question Election Commission’s credibility:

The founder of AAP propaganda blog Janta Ka Reporter decided to take things to the next level by floating a high level conspiracy theory:

Congress leader Kapil Sibal decided to write some kind of a poem to launch a triple attack on the Election Commission, Media and the Judiciary:

Even journalist Rajdeep Sardesai became visibly agitated on air and almost decided to attack a BJP leader like some Congress spokesperson would:

It remains to be seen whether we would witness a similar meltdown on 18th if these exit poll projections are proven right and BJP manages to form a government in Gujarat for the sixth consecutive time.

Locals angry after part of historic Jaipur temple gets damaged during film’s shooting

0

Local people residing near the historic Ambikeshwar Mahadev Temple in Jaipur were angered after chhajja (overhang) of the temple was damaged during the shooting of a Bollywood movie. They were further angered after noticing that some members of the film crew were cooking meat and eggs near the old temple which is situated on the Sagar road in the city’s Amer region.

This incident happened on Thursday during the shooting of an upcoming film named Dhadak, which is the debut movie of actress Jhanvi Kapoor, daughter of Sridevi and Ishan Khattar.

After the locals noticed the damage and meat cooking, the news spread like wildfire and soon an official of Save the Heritage committee named Bharat Sharma reached the spot and halted the shooting. As per Bharat, this Ambikeshwar Mahadev Temple is about 5,500 years old and has demanded an outright stop on the film shooting, failing which they would start an agitation.

Further a written complaint to police was made against the unit head for outraging people’s religious feelings. After registering the case, the police station in charge named Naresh Kumar briefed that the people, had started a protest over the cooking of meat and damage to temple’s balcony during the transportation of equipment.

Sensing the protest, the police reached the spot to calm the situation and have launched a probe.

In the past, citizen groups in Tamil Nadu have called for a ban on film shooting in temples and archaeological structures. The reason given are that the shooting will cause irreparable damage to the heritage structures. Few activists have claimed that precaution isn’t taken while shooting and the crew even proceed to litter in the premises.

States like Karnataka already have a ban in place when it comes to film shooting at heritage sites and the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam has also put a similar ban in place.

Rajasthan HC raps state govt for its lack of knowledge of Pakistani Hindus’ pending citizenship cases

0

The Rajasthan High Court on Thursday expressed anger over the state government’s failure to submit details of pending citizenship cases of Pakistani Hindus, and as a resulted directed it to submit a report in the next hearing. Failing which, the court ordered the home secretary to be present before it to explain the reason why, a progress report could not be tabled.

The High Court had stepped in the matter by taking a suo moto cognisance of the large number of pending citizenship and visa cases of migrants. As a result It had asked for the details of number of Hindu migrants who have till date not got a citizenship despite being eligible for it.

When questioned about the failure to submit the details, the Additional Advocate General (AAG) K L Thakur, blamed the CID for neither providing the pending citizenship figures, nor providing the figure of total migrants living in the state.

The division bench headed by justice Sangeet Lodha termed the government’s lack of knowledge as “shocking”.

The amicus curiae who is arguing on the issue also blamed the CID by alleging that, it was not clearing cases pertaining to citizenship and short, long term visas.

The ‘dubious’ functioning of the CID in regards to this matter has also been documented in the past.

We had reported how Nine Pakistani Hindus were deported to Pakistan, even as the Rajasthan High Court had put a stay on it. The petitioners which included a 73 year old woman had asked for a stay on their deportation, but before the court order could reach the concerned authorities, they had entered Pakistan territory.

Supposedly it was the CID which had spearheaded the deportation process as its officials had given the Hindu family an ultimatum to go back to Pakistan.

In a stark contrast to this, the governments of Chhattisgarh and Gujarat have been very proactive in providing citizenship to migrant Hindus.

Just this October, the Rama Singh led Chhattisgarh government had helped provide citizenship to 60 Pakistani Hindus, and promised to further aid 600-700 such Hindus in the near future. Even in Gujarat, more than 100 Hindus got Indian citizenship thanks to the Narendra Modi government at the Centre simplifying rules for Pakistani Hindus in exile.

Find out the truth about Mathura police getting uniforms inscribed with Lord Krishna’s image

0

On Thursday the media came up with reports which claimed that the Mathura police may soon get uniforms which would have a logo of Lord Krishna inscribed on their shoulder badges. The report also claimed that the badges would also feature the words “Tourist Police”.

This decision was apparently coming on the heels of the UP government declaring Vrindavan as an official “holy pilgrimage site”. The reason provided for such a measure was re-branding the UP Police as a more tourist friendly force.

Soon after initial reports spread, other articles came out which claimed that protests had already begun against this move.

It was reported that the former DGP of Uttar Pradesh, Brij Lal stated that such a move shouldn’t be allowed as it would affect the secular image of the police. The national spokesperson of the Congress, Vivek Bansal too opposed this move by claiming that being a secular nation, India’s governments shouldn’t publicise religion.

Just as the controversy looked like escalating, the official twitter account of the Mathura police came up with a tweet condemning such reports and claimed that no such logo has been issued:

Even though the police dismissed and condemned such reports, it still didn’t explain as to how media reports were carrying images of such logos:

After-all if the news about these logos was fake then what explained the above picture, was this some artists impression created by the media or was it some forgery?

One possibility was that, such a “Tourist Police Mathura” might be a special police force being formed as a result of, Indian Institute of Travel and Tourism Management’s recommendation to create a Tourist Police to ensure safety in areas frequented by tourists.

Just a few moments back the Mathura police further decided to clear the air regarding the matter by tweeting out a video clip where its senior police officer is addressing the media:

As heard in this clip the police officer is saying that as per guidelines issued, in order to ensure safety of tourists near temples and better approachability for redressal, a police uniform containing a batch with “T” might be issued. He then stated that based on suggestions the police have also developed a few logos, one of which is the Lord Krishna one.

He thus clarified that such a logo is a mere suggestion and hasn’t been implemented. Without naming names, he negated claims of a newspaper which published the news by taking a religious angle. Further he stated that the final logo out of various designs and ideas would be finalised only after getting proper permission from the police headquarters.

Why the Gujarat verdict is all about Rahul Gandhi, no matter what media focuses on

0

We have read editorials and op-eds calling the Gujarat elections a mid-term referendum on Modi magic. Well, every election, even a local body election ultimately morphs into a test of ‘Modi wave’ for some sections of the media, but this time it’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state, so that argument might appear valid.

The elections in the Prime Minister’s backyard are also seen as a verdict on two policy related disruptions: GST and Demonetisation. Besides, it will also be made into view of the people on the economic situation of India. Local factors will also be judged such as the so-called Patel rage, the efficacy of the Gujarat Model etc.

The BJP and the Prime Minister have been called “nervous”, “desperate” etc, but in the run-up to the Uttar Pradesh elections too, commentators had claimed the same about BJP. Modi is accused of taking the communal line in Gujarat, just as he was accused of doing the same in Uttar Pradesh (when in fact data showed he was correct). And this is again linked to BJP being nervous.

But just because BJP is going all-out all guns blazing, does it mean they are nervous? Or do commentators not realise that is just how BJP fights elections: Going in with all their armory, trying everything in the book? Did these very commentators not “accuse” BJP of running itself as an election winning machine a few months back? So why read “desperation” when they feel this is the inherent character of the BJP under Narendra Modi and Amit Shah?

However, in all this scrutiny of Modi, Shah, and BJP, the Congress party seemed to have slipped below the radar.

Let us look at some of the developments in the run up to the elections on the Congress front.

It started with a sprucing up of Congress and Rahul Gandhi’s virtual image. We had shown how seven different mainstream publications had carried virtual fluff pieces in October 2017, declaring that the Congress social media team had arrived. This even when the social media antiques of Congress were getting panned for gaffe after gaffe.

Then came the online resurgence of Rahul Gandhi. From a moderately active account, Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account transformed into a profile which regularly tweeted. The tone also moved from mild to caustic and acerbic, much like the pre-2017 tweets of Kejriwal. It was claimed that this new avatar of Rahul had led to a massive spurt in his popularity, more followers, more retweets etc. It was eventually found out that this was the doing of “bots” i.e. fake profiles.

Both the above attempts were timed in the run-up to the Gujarat elections.

On the ground, Rahul Gandhi virtually camped in Gujarat. He campaigned extensively, for a non-stop 26 days, with no break. During the campaign trail, he is said to have addressed around 150 rallies and corner meetings, covering 2,600 km by road. Except Uttar Pradesh, one cannot remember such an effort from the Gandhi scion.

The Gujarat Congress campaign was also centered on Rahul, rather than any state leader. The party stayed away from naming any CM candidate, thus by-default centering the election around Gandhi. That, plus his full-time involvement make it possibly the first election where Rahul Gandhi is on the line. In Uttar Pradesh, he was in alliance with the CM candidate, who was definitely the leader of the alliance. Here Rahul is leading the flock.

To make the Congress challenge stronger, they allied with Hardik Patel and the patidaar faction, agreeing to their demands of reservation. The move indicates Rahul Gandhi’s intention to leave no stone un-turned to fight out the BJP. In fact, this could be a sign of “nervousness” and “desperation”, by the same standards media uses.

Next, Rahul Gandhi went for an image make-over. After the 2014 debacle, the Congress party had gone for some soul-searching, asking its cadres whether it came across as an anti-Hindu party. The answer must have been pretty obvious. This, plus the Uttar Pradesh debacle, may have led to a complete change in how Rahul positioned himself on angle of religion. Rahul visited 25+ temples in the campaign, referring to himself as a “Shiva Bhakt”. When the controversy over his religion emerged, his cronies went on the aggressive to declare him a “janeu-dhari” Hindu. This adoption of a overtly Hindu identity is also a major gamble which Rahul has taken.

In his speeches across Gujarat, Rahul also adopted an aggressive stance, trying to make every speech newsworthy. One simple method is to make outlandish claims. These can often morph into plain lies. The sheer number of major lies from Rahul Gandhi’s speeches this election season are stunning (1),(2),(3),(4),(5),(6). Is Rahul naive enough to have lied unknowingly? Or is he a politician trying to do his best, including staking his own credibility to win an election? Or maybe he knew that the mainstream media won’t bother to do any fact-check on his claims. Nonetheless, Rahul Gandhi was leading from the front.

The Congress played another trump card during the campaign. The much delayed elevation of Rahul Gandhi to the post of President of Congress party was announced during the Gujarat elections campaign. One view could be that if they had delayed it beyond elections, and if Congress had lost, it would not make good optics to crown the loser. But then do they have a choice? Irrespective of the outcome, Rahul is the next President. Thus by announcing it in the run up to the elections, Congress played another trump card, to enthuse its cadre as well the masses.

In the process of the elevation, senior Congress leader and party faithful Mani Shankar Aiyar made a few untoward remarks. One of them was the much criticized “neech” remark. The “new” Rahul, as to-be-party-president, took the bold decision to sacrifice the pawn, in order to minimise damage in Gujarat. This shows the extent to which Rahul Gandhi wants Gujarat.

The last Rahul Gandhi TV interview that was seen in India was the now infamous Rahul vs Arnab back in 2014. After that, Rahul has shied away from such occasions. During the UP elections, where the stakes were much higher, Rahul’s alliance partners had given TV interviews, but not Rahul. For Gujarat elections, we saw a “new” Rahul. On the even of the Gujarat polls, Rahul Gandhi gave multiple interviews to multiple TV channels. Once again, Rahul put himself up on the stand, to garner a victory in Gujarat, and that too breaking away from his comfort zone. Further, the same interviews are now facing intense legal scrutiny from the Election Commission. Did Rahul not know he was overstepping the model code of conduct? Or is he just desperate for a win?

His virtual campaign, his on the ground work in Gujarat, his elevation, the temple-run, the interviews, are all examples of how Rahul Gandhi has himself made the Gujarat elections his make-or-break battle. If the Congress loses here, Rahul has absolutely nowhere to hide.

The circumstances too cannot be better: BJP was never so vulnerable. A party facing over two decades of anti-incumbency, a state unit which has not been able to even come close to filling the void of Narendra Modi, other opposition parties like Patidars have aligned with Congress or like AAP, have indirectly asked voters to vote for Congress. The stage is well and truly set.

If BJP under-performs, BJP and Modi can give a host of excuses: national as well as local. What excuse does Congress have if it underperforms? What excuse does Rahul Gandhi have then?

The Gujarat elections are not a referendum on Modi, instead they are Rahul Gandhi’s agni-pariksha.

NGT’s #Hinduban in Amarnath is so absurd that it feels like it is ‘planted’

0

For decades now, liberals have been trying to kill Hindu practices in this country by scraping the edges. Take crackers out of Diwali, take water out of Holi, don’t allow human pyramids during Dahi Handi. Plus condemn Rakhi and Karva Chauth for being “patriarchal” in nature.

These bans are justified by giving a variety of novel reasons like, saving the environment, women’s liberation, animal rights. The conclusion is always the same: more Hindu practices must be banned.

Somehow when Muslims go over again and again about how there is no God but Allah (La Ilaha Il Allah), they cannot find any tones of communal hatred in those rituals. When Muslim texts go to great lengths to condemn non-believers and idol worshippers in particular, nobody talks about how xenophobic that is.

Anyways, I digress.

But the sword thrust from the NGT yesterday to ban mantras from being chanted inside Amarnath Temple feels different.

I say that because this is not scraping on the edges like liberals have been doing for a while. This is a sword thrust through the heart of Hindus. A ban on the chanting of mantras! This feels like an outright #Hinduban.

On a lighter note, Twitter should stop giving ideas to India’s judiciary and tribunals. When they banned Dahi Handi, many right wingers resorted to sarcasm, asking the overlords if they would care to rule on how many agarbattis we can light, how many flowers we can offer and so on…

Stop doing this.

Because it seems they are listening and taking notes. We now have a ruling on exactly how many milliliters of water can be poured over the Shiv Lingam in Ujjain Mahakaal Temple. We now have a ban on mantras being chanted in Amarnath. We now have a ban on bells.

That’s right. It has got so strange that it has become its own parody. Chanting of mantras might cause avalanches?

Left wing Hinduphobia might not be too far from homophobia. A few years ago, I remember this ridiculous story about some Christian Babaji saying that gay people cause earthquakes. In fact, homophobia and hateful attitudes towards gay people provide an interesting parallel to the current atmosphere of Hinduphobia in the Indian judiciary.

Here’s a lesser known fact: in the United States, Canada and a large number of other Western countries, there are special laws against gay people donating blood. In the US, it used to be that gay people were outright banned from donating blood, but in Dec 2015, this was relaxed to a one year ban since the last homosexual encounter.

Theoretically, this ‘justified’ by claiming that gay people have higher HIV infection rates, but the real reason is obviously homophobia, because the blood being donated would simply be tested for HIV like blood from any other person.

I have been observing the liberal reaction to this Amarnath mantra ban on social media and it has been very interesting. Liberals so far have observed a strategic silence, instead of openly celebrating the victory.

There are a couple of possible reasons for this:

One, with an outright ban on mantras at Amarnath, the liberals have achieved the legal equivalent of “letting the bat do the talking”.

There’s nothing left to say. Liberals have succeeded where Islamic terrorists failed, which is shutting down Puja at Amarnath. They will simply watch, as Hindus will come to terms with this snub, gulp it down and normalise it, just as they have done so many times in the past.

After such a successful sword thrust, liberals see that it is better to lie low for a while and let Hindus get used to the new normal. Immediate celebrations might provoke Hindus and cause a counter reaction. Let Hindus forget about it, let them adjust to it.

If they punch the Hindus too quickly over and over again, the Hindus might, just might wake up and realise what is happening. Hence the liberals feel that it is better to keep a low profile and remove the limbs of Hinduism carefully, one by one, with surgical precision, and finally let us know only when ALL the limbs have been removed.

After it is all over, we might be like the Yazidis sitting at the top of Mount Sinjar, facing a choice of dying either of thirst or at the hands of marauding Islamists below.

The second possibility though is far more sinister. Like I said earlier, this time the ban feels different. Is it possible that an opportunity has been deliberately created for a certain newly minted “Shiv Bhakt” to come out in “favour of Hindus” by protesting against this absurd order?

If the second reason is true then the time is running out for the BJP to officially react to this ban and possibly mitigate its losses…

Section 144 imposed in Udaipur after Hindu groups plan a ‘counter rally’ on ‘love jihad’ murder issue

0

About a week back, Rajasthan witnessed a brutal murder where a Muslim labourer was burnt alive, over allegations of him indulging in love jihad with the accused’s sister.

Soon various conspiracy theories started floating around, after which the police stated that he wasn’t part of any organisation to negate allegations of it being a collective effort. The issue though has refused to die down, even though the accused was arrested and the police has asserted that they would demand capital punishment for him.

As per latest reports, section 144 has been imposed in Udaipur and Rajsamand from Wednesday night after a rally was taken out by Hindu groups purportedly in order to protest against inflammatory sloganeering carried out by Muslims in Udaipur’s Chetak Circle.

The Hindu groups as a result of this sloganeering seem to have rallied together to demand action against the Muslim group for their communal chants. About 15 Hindu groups including the Bajrang Dal have called for a protest on Friday.

The police as a result decided to step in and apart from imposing section 144, also suspended internet services in the region.

Other reports though for some reason decided to claim that this rally was being organised in support of the murder accused, without venturing into the alleged sloganeering by Muslim groups.

Apart from media reports, certain undated videos are circulating on social media which supposedly capture the inflammatory statements made by the Muslims:

In this video which indeed is from Udaipur, one can clearly hear chants like, Hindustan mein rehna hoga to Allah u Akbar kehna hoga.

As per a tweet put out by Rakesh Goswami, who is the bureau chief of Hindustan Times Rajasthan, Muslim groups had carried out a rally in Udaipur on Friday to demand death penalty against the accused:

Though thanks to a lack of media coverage over this aspect, it isn’t possible to confirm whether the inflammatory sloganeering was part of this protest march or if these two are disjoint incidents. However, the Hindu groups decided to take out a rally after such clips went viral on social media, due to which internet services too have been suspended in the region.

CNN IBN journalist gets roasted for soft ball interview with Rahul Gandhi

0

About a year back the India Today managed to the interview of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and during the buildup, it was advertised as the “biggest interview of the decade”. After the interview conducted by controversial journalist Rajdeep Sardesai aired, it was soon re branded by social media users as The fixed interview of the decade, primarily for its softball nature.

Yesterday, CNN News18 started creating a similar build-up to an interview of Congress President elect Rahul Gandhi:

Considering the fact that the interview was being conducted after the Gujarat poll campaign, one felt that, CNN News18 would do justice to journalism and pose tough questions to Rahul Gandhi, like asking as to why did he lie multiple times during the election campaign. Rahul’s lies were so widespread that even Tata Motors (which was at the receiving end of the one such lie) had to come out with a statement debunking them.

Possibly one of the first signs that the interview would contain no firebrand content was the fact that it was being conducted by Journalist Pallavi Ghosh. Pallavi has attained notoriety on twitter for being a ‘fan’ of the Gandhis, if one goes by these tweets:

Almost predictably this is what happened, and the interview whose clip was also shared by the Congress, saw Pallavi asking Rahul soft questions and at one point even expressed her desire to meet Rahul Gandhi’s dog Pidi (Video via @LOLiyapa):

The tone and tenor of the interview gave out a feeling that it was more of a PR platform for Rahul Gandhi than a means to make him answer some tough questions.

Social Media users as a result weren’t happy and decided to roast Pallavi for her approach:

Such an interview raises the question as to whether journalists and media houses are more interested in currying favour with the political establishment even though it means committing a grave travesty of journalism.

Scuffle erupts after Aligarh’s BSP corporators decide to take oath in Urdu

0

A scuffle was reported to have broken out between BJP and BSP workers on Tuesday after the latter’s mayor elect in Aligarh named Mohammad Furqan and other BSP corporators decided to take their oath in Urdu. This oath taking resulted in objections from the BJP workers which later escalated into a full blown scuffle.

The BJP workers as a result decided to start chanting slogans like Vande Mataram, Har Har Mahadev, Jai Sri Ram and even raised Jai Modi and Jai Yogi slogans. The BSP members responded by starting to chant Jai Bheem. As a result of the sloganeering, the oath taking ceremony had to be put on hold for a while.

Initial reports suggested that only a single BSP corporator named Musharraf Hussain took oath in Urdu but latest reports have claimed that other corporators including the Mayor Mohammad Furqan used the same language to take their oaths.

The allegation of the BJP corporators is that it is illegal to take oath in Urdu.

The District Magistrate of Aligarh, Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod decided to downplay the incident by claiming that there was some unnecessary sloganeering but the program later took place peacefully. He though has claimed that they would probe the recordings and take appropriate actions based on it.

In the recently concluded Uttar Pradesh civic polls, the BJP won in 14 out of 16 Municipal corporations across the state. The remaining two namely Meerut and Aligarh were won by the BSP.

A similar scuffle was noticed in the Maharashtra assembly in 2009 after 13 Maharashtra Navanirman Sena (MNS) members flew of the handle after realising that Samajwadi Party’s Abu Azmi was taking his oath in Hindi.

As a result of this hooliganism, four MNS legislators namely, Shishir Shinde, Ramesh Wanjale, Ram Kadam and Vasant Geete were banned from entering the assembly premises for four years.

People react after NGT orders a ban on chanting of “Mantras” in Amarnath temple

0

The National Green Tribunal on Wednesday earned the wrath of Social Media users after reports emerged which claimed that the environment body has banned the chanting of mantras in the Amarnath temple. This temple is home to a natural Shivling and is considered one of the holiest shrines in Hinduism.

The logic given behind this ban seems to be that, a silent zone is being created around the main shrine to prevent avalanche and preserve ecology.

As per the report, apart from banning the mantras the tribunal headed by chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar also issued a slew of other orders like banning the ringing of bells in the temple.

The pilgrims also have to deposit their mobile phones and other belongings before taking Darshan. As a result of this, the shrine body has been asked to build a separate room to store these belongings. The devotees would now also need to walk in a single queue after crossing the last checkpoint.

After giving the orders, the tribunal has also asked the Amarnath shrine board to strictly implement them.

Many social media users as a result considered such orders as a gross interference in the Hindu faith and reacted:

A BJP Delhi spokesperson outright challenged the tribunal:

The national green tribunal in November had also decided to impose restrictions on the Vaishno Devi temple, which included capping the number of devotees to 50,000 per day.
