Sharing the details on the social media platform X, the Chief Minister said a team from Cachar Police seized 1.357 kg of morphine during the operation.
He said the drugs were meant for the illegal market but were caught before they could reach the streets. In his post, Sarma sent a strong message, saying drug peddlers had tried to bring in a costly consignment, only to be caught by the police.
The Chief Minister said Assam follows a zero-tolerance policy against drugs and that such operations are carried out to completely break drug networks. According to him, the focus is on stopping narcotics at the entry point itself so they do not harm people, especially the youth. He added that in Assam, drugs do not get the chance to circulate and are seized as part of firm enforcement.
Sarma also explained that morphine is a narcotic substance made from opium and is legally used to treat pain under medical supervision, but its illegal use is dangerous.
Police officials said legal action has been started against those arrested, and further steps are being taken as per the law. The Chief Minister praised the police for their alert work and said such actions show the state’s commitment to keeping Assam drug-free.
