Amravati exploitation case: Read how a ‘Bet’ between two accused Mohammad Ayan and Ujer Khan led to a voyeurism and extortion scandal

A shocking case from Amravati, Maharashtra, has come to light after a fallout between two key accused exposed a larger chain of sexual exploitation, blackmail and the circulation of obscene videos. The case revolves around Mohammad Ayan (also known as Tanveer) and his associate Ujer Khan, whose dispute over money and a “bet” brought the entire operation into the open.

A bet that turned into blackmail

Police sources say Ayan and Ujer were competing over who could lure more girls into relationships. What began as a bet soon turned into recording intimate videos and storing them. The situation escalated when Ujer, angry over financial disputes, released several of these videos online.

Investigators have found 18 videos and 39 obscene photos so far, though around 100 clips are believed to have been circulated widely. Authorities suspect the content was also being sold.

Ayan, who had earlier been linked with All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and handled a local social media page, was living a flashy lifestyle despite coming from a modest background. This raised suspicions about how he had access to large amounts of money.

Coaching centres became a key link

A major part of the operation appears to be linked to well-known coaching institutes like Aakash Institute and Future Hunt in Amravati. The accused reportedly took admission in these centres to get access to students.

During events and interactions at these institutes, they befriended Hindu girls from Classes 10, 11 and 12. Conversations then moved to platforms like Snapchat and Telegram, where groups were created. The girls were later taken to cafes and hotels, given gifts, and eventually recorded without their informed consent.

Police say the videos were then used to threaten and extort money, sometimes in lakhs. Victims included minors aged 15 to 17, with some coming from nearby towns, Nagpur and tribal areas.

Investigation and arrests

So far, police have confirmed eight victims, though the number may rise as more people come forward. Ayan has been arrested and booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the POCSO Act and the IT Act. He is in police custody till 21st April.

Ujer Khan has also been arrested for downloading and spreading the videos, which intensified the situation across Maharashtra.

Amravati Rural SP Vishal Anand Singuri said efforts are ongoing to identify all victims and recover deleted data. Special teams, including female officers, have been formed to support survivors. Authorities are also checking whether a larger network was involved in producing or distributing the videos.

The case continues to unfold, with investigators focusing on digital evidence, financial links and the role of educational spaces in enabling contact between the accused and victims.
