A serious death threat has been issued against West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari by a Bangladeshi Muslim man who threatened to “bury him near the border” and physically assault him. The video has triggered security concerns and is currently under police investigation.
Video linked to father of deceased Islamist
According to information being examined by investigators, the man seen in the viral video is said to be the father of an Islamist who was killed during the 2024 regime change operation in Bangladesh. In the clip, the man uses abusive and violent language against the West Bengal Chief Minister while speaking in Hindi.
The video was uploaded on a Facebook page named “The Daily Inquilab.” The page reportedly displays the Bangladeshi flag, which has led to speculation that the recording may have been made in Bangladesh. Officials also believe the man is currently in Bangladesh and not in India.
Threat to “bury” the Chief Minister near the border
In the video, the accused openly threatens Suvendu Adhikari and says he would “bury him at the border.” The threatening remarks have raised alarm because of the recent killing of Chandranath Rath, the Chief Minister’s personal assistant, in the Madhyamgram area of North 24 Parganas district.
After the murder of Rath, security around the Chief Minister had already been tightened. The latest threat has made the issue even more sensitive for the administration.
Security stepped up after a viral threat
Officials at the State Secretariat said there would be no compromise in the Chief Minister’s security arrangements. Suvendu Adhikari already has ‘Z’ category security provided by the central government. Since taking charge as Chief Minister, he has been protected by a joint security setup involving both state police personnel and central security forces.
Police are now investigating the origin of the viral video, the identity of those involved, and whether more people are connected to the threat.
