Bhim Army chief Vinay Ratan burns Manusmriti in Madhya Pradesh, video goes viral; Rohini Ghawari demands NSA action by MP govt

Tensions have escalated in Madhya Pradesh after two separate videos went viral, one showing the burning of the religious text Manusmriti, and another depicting the burning of an effigy of Dr B. R. Ambedkar.

Reacting strongly to the developments, Dalit rights activist Dr Rohini Ghawari, who has previously represented India at the United Nations, has called for stringent action.

Taking to X, Dr Ghawari tagged Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and demanded immediate action under the National Security Act (NSA) against both sides involved in spreading social discord.

In her post, she criticised Vinay Ratan, the national president of the Bhim Army, over the public burning of Manusmriti, and also condemned those who burned an effigy of Dr Ambedkar in Gwalior. Dr Ghawari asserted that such acts serve only to fuel hatred and poison social harmony.

Who is Dr Rohini Ghawari?

Hailing from the Valmiki community, Dr Rohini Ghawari is known for her outspoken views. She has consistently distanced herself from leaders who, in the name of Dalit politics, promote hostility towards Brahmins. On multiple occasions, she has publicly acknowledged the role of her “Pandit uncle” and the Brahmin community in her personal and professional success.

Dr Ghawari first came into national prominence after she sharply criticised Pakistan at the United Nations, and welcomed the construction of the Ram Temple with chants of “Jai Shri Ram.” As of now, police action in connection with the viral incidents is awaited.
