Christian organisation’s Ahmedabad School, where Hindu student was stabbed to death, taken over by Gujarat Government

The government of Gujarat has now taken full control of the Seventh-day Adventist School in Ahmedabad. This comes after a big controversy in August 2025 when a Hindu student named Nayan Santani, who was in tenth standard, was stabbed to death by a Muslim student from the same school. Anger erupted among the parents after this incident, and they raised serious concerns about how the school was being run. Some past problems also came to light, pointing to incidents of poor management.

The District Education Officer stepped in and set up a committee to investigate the issue and scrutinise the school’s running. Their investigation uncovered many issues in the school. They found that the school had broken government rules for recognition, and it never got permission to add extra classes.

The school also skipped getting approvals for changes in management and for shifts in the school premises. There were many problems with how the school was managed overall. The committee even spotted issues in how the school got its status as a minority school.

Based on this report, the committee suggested that the government should take over the school because of the negligence and rule-breaking. The State Education Department agreed and made it official.

On 15th December, the Education Department passed a resolution saying that to protect the interests of more than ten thousand students currently studying there, they would take over the administration. But as of now, no new students can join the school. They appointed the District Education Officer of Ahmedabad city as the administrator of the school.

Earlier, OpIndia had covered the full story of the committee’s detailed report and all these irregularities. This takeover ensures the ongoing students’ education doesn’t suffer while fixing the school’s problems.
