Attempt to lynch RAF officer, Nihangs attack police with swords: How the night unfolded after the CJP mob went on a violence rampage during the day

The violence surrounding the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar continued late into the night on 21st July, with videos showing Nihangs armed with swords attacking police and Rapid Action Force personnel.

The crowd at the protest site swelled significantly after police action against CJP protesters who had pelted stones at police personnel during the day on 20th July. As more people gathered at the site, several Nihangs carrying swords entered the protest area.

RAF officer attacked after being deliberately tripped

In one of the videos circulating on social media, an RAF officer was seen running away from a group of protesters in an apparent attempt to save himself.

A protester then deliberately placed his leg in the officer’s path, causing him to fall to the ground. Members of the mob immediately surrounded the fallen officer and began attacking him.

The RAF personnel somehow managed to get back on his feet and escape from the mob. The visuals appeared to show an attempted mob-lynching assault on the officer as protesters chased and attacked him while he was isolated from his unit.

Another video showed Nihangs attacking RAF personnel near the protest site.

Several members of the group were seen carrying swords as police and security forces attempted to control the situation.

Nihang threatens to use swords and batons

In a separate video, one Nihang openly threatened to use batons and swords against anyone, including police personnel, if security forces carried out a lathi charge.

The presence of armed protesters further escalated tensions at Jantar Mantar, where clashes had already broken out following stone pelting by CJP supporters and subsequent police action.

Meanwhile, rumours and unverified claims continued to circulate online, apparently aimed at provoking more people to join the agitation. Delhi Police had earlier debunked several false claims regarding its action against the protesters.

However, the rapid spread of misleading reports and inflammatory social media posts continued to fuel unrest, drawing larger crowds to the protest site and worsening the law-and-order situation during the night.
