On 10th Dedember Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat expressed his views regarding the Thirupparankundram row. He declared that the “awakening of Hindus in Tamil Nadu” would be enough to resolve the issue. He added that “if it needs escalation, it will be done but I don’t think it does. That matter is now sub-judice. Let it resolve.”
“The awakening of Hindus in Tamil Nadu, I think it is enough to bring about the desired result. But if at all it is needed, the Hindu organisations are working here in Tamil Nadu also. They will let us know. Then we will think about it,” Bhagwat mentioned.
He claimed that the situation will be sorted out on the basis of Hindu strength in Tamil Nadu and will not necessitate intervention at a higher level. Bhagwat reiterated that the conflict will be resolved in favour of Hindus. “That is definite. We will do whatever it takes for that,” he assured.
The RSS supremo made the statement in response to a question at the “100 Years of Sangh Journey – New Horizons” event. He was questioned about whether the organisation should address the Thiruparankundram dispute at the national level.
The Thiruparankundram is a hillock located in Madurai and is regarded as one of the six abodes of Lord Murugn. However, it also houses a dargah and Muslims assert their claim to ownership. They are also involved in encroachment activities and tried to rename the hill. Nevertheless, the Madras High Court foiled their plans and have repeatedly ruled in support of the Hindus.
This was recently evident when the court permitted devotees of the Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple to light the traditional Karthigai Deepam lamp at Deepathoon. However, the ruling DMK disregarded the court order and prevented the devotees from carrying out the directive, resulting in a heated confrontation with the police. The state government even filed a petition in the Supreme Court to challenge the high court’s decision. This action sparked significant controversy and backlash from the Hindu community and its organisations.
