Meerut Police arrests three AIMIM leaders Mehtab Chauhan, Imran Ansari, Razi Siddiqui in connection with state party chief Shaukat Ali’s call for ‘encounter killing’ of cops

Meerut police on Tuesday (March 24, 2026) said that three accused have been arrested in connection with a case filed against All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) state president Haji Shaukat Ali for making provocative remarks at the Eid Milan event held at Labbek Farm House on Hapur Road.

The arrested accused have been identified as AIMIM’s Western Uttar Pradesh president Mehtab Chauhan, Meerut city president Imran Ansari, and Meerut city secretary Razi Siddiqui.

A case was filed by the police at the Lohiyanagar Police Station after a viral video of the Eid Milan event held on March 23, 2026, showed Shaukat Ali threatening to carry out the encounter of policemen who allegedly carried out the encounters of Muslims. “We do not need 111 MLAs, give us just 11. I promise that if a Muslim is encountered, those carrying out the encounter will also face an encounter,” Shaukat Ali said in the video. He also called for unity among supporters with the slogan “one stick, one flag and one leader”, arguing that political power is essential to safeguard community interests.

Shaukat Ali also targeted the Meerut police administration, objecting to the statement of the Superintendent of Police (SP), Meerut, who warned against offering Namaz on the roads and said those found violating the order will have their licenses cancelled. Questioning SP Meerut, Ali asked whether a similar action would be taken by the police against those performing the ‘Nagin Dance’ in front of mosques during Ram Navami. Asserting the rights of his community, Ali said that Muslims also played a part in the country’s struggle for independence.

The case was lodged against six identified individuals, including AIMIM State President Haji Shaukat Ali, District President Chaudhary Fahim Raja, Youth Metropolitan President Owais Alam, Western UP President Mahtab Chauhan, Metropolitan President Imran Ansari and Asjad, and several unidentified individuals. The police are looking for the remaining accused, including Shaukat Ali. ASP (Kotwali) Antariksh Jain said that the police administration will not tolerate any attempt to disrupt the atmosphere under the guise of political or religious events. Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Hero Vajpayee remarked that the Yogi Adityanath government is in power in the state, and strict action will be taken against anyone who attempts to disturb the peace.
