‘Will delete fake degree man’ tweet against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey: TMC MP Mahua Moitra tells Delhi HC

On 27th October (Tuesday), Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra told the Delhi High Court that she will remove her tweet calling BJP MP Nishikant Dubey a “fake degree kism ka aadmi” (man with a fake degree).

Meanwhile, former finance secretary Subhash Chandra Garg, who was recently in the news for peddling a fake narrative about India’s GDP growth, also agreed to ask a podcaster to block the relevant portion of the video in which Garg called Nishikant Dubey a “blackmailing kism ke aadmi” (man who resorts to blackmailing).

Justice Tushar Rao Gedela recorded the statements in his order and issued summons to Mahua Moitra and Subhash Chandra Garg.

The statements from Mahua Moitra and Subhash Chandra Garg came after Justice Gedela objected to the use of the word “blackmailer” against Nishikant Dubey.

“If they [Dubey] said you [Garg] are a blackmailer, will you take that lightly? We are not on why someone asked you [the question]. We are not denying you the opportunity to file a reply. These are two persons who have got a reputation. You think we don’t understand this? You can’t use a word like blackmailer for any person. It’s an intemperate word and absolutely derogatory. You want us to put this in writing? We will do that… You can’t call anybody by that name. The rest of the things are debatable. There is nothing intemperate in anything else you have said,” the court stated.

After the court asked Moitra and Garg’s counsel, Samudra Sarangi, to obtain instructions on removing the posts

Notably, Nishikant Dubey had sued Mahua Moitra and Subhash Chandra Garg after the duo launched personal attacks on him.

In her now-deleted tweet from September 2026, Moitra had said, “Yeh blackmailing kism ke aadmi hai”… yes 100% correct @Subhashgarg1960! Fake degree kism ke aadmi bhi. Don’t fear his defamation/ Lokpal/ ED/CBI threats – tell him to blow his pipe till he bursts. Well done, Sir, for speaking the truth. Respect.”

Nishikant Dubey has submitted that the claims made by Mahua Moitra and Subhash Chandra Gag are false, malicious, and defamatory.

As Moitra and Garg told the court that they will remove the content targeting Dubey, the BJP MP posted on X, “The court also caught former Finance Secretary Subhash Garg in a lie; he too had to retract his baseless statement against us. Satyameva Jayate.“
