AltNews co-founder Mohammed Zubair on Monday (20th July) sought to dismiss reports that Delhi Police personnel were injured during the violent clashes that erupted amid the CJP’s Parliament march in the national capital, claiming there was “zero proof” that protesters had injured policemen through stone-pelting.

Taking to X, Zubair alleged that media reports about police personnel sustaining injuries were fabricated.

“These Chatukaar reports like @AmanChopra_ are spreading fake News that several @DelhiPolice personnels were injured by stone pelting by the Protestors. Zero Proof!” he posted.

However, Zubair’s assertion flies in the face of multiple visuals captured by news agencies from the protest site. Photographs and videos show Delhi Police personnel bleeding, receiving medical attention, and, in one instance, an injured officer explicitly stating on camera that he was hit by stones hurled by the mob.

Four visuals that contradict Mohammed Zubair’s claim

In a photograph shared by ANI, a Delhi Police officer can be seen with a large bandage covering his nose and another wrapped around his head, indicating injuries sustained during the violence.

Perhaps the clearest rebuttal to Zubair’s claim comes from another ANI visual shared online earlier today. A Delhi Police Sub-Inspector is seen standing beside a CATS ambulance, pressing a cloth against his injured eye.

Another visual shared online revealed more than 50 policemen, including 10 IPS, have been injured in stone pelting witnessed during the protests.

When reporters asked him how he was injured, the officer replied, “Patthar laga, patthar patthar” (“I was hit by stones”), adding that he and his colleagues were stationed near the barricades when protesters began pelting stones from the front.

Another image, published by IANS, shows security personnel and medical staff carrying an injured Delhi Police official into a vehicle to rush him for treatment, underscoring the seriousness of the injuries sustained during the clashes.

Yet another ANI photograph shows a Delhi Police official walking through the protest site with prominent bloodstains splattered across the front of his uniform shirt, further contradicting claims that no police personnel were injured.

CJP’s ‘peaceful protest’ descended into violence

The violence broke out on Monday, 20th July, when supporters of the CJP attempted to march towards Parliament despite the Delhi Police making it clear that no permission had been granted for the demonstration.

The protesters gathered near Kerala Bhawan, where they breached police barricades and allegedly resorted to heavy stone-pelting at security personnel deployed to stop their advance. Videos from the scene showed protesters charging towards police barricades even as law enforcement personnel attempted to contain the crowd.

As the situation spiralled, the Rapid Action Force (RAF) was deployed and carried out two rounds of lathi-charge to disperse the mob and restore order.

Given the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) had already been imposed in the area, and a heavy security deployment was in place to prevent any attempt to breach the Parliament security perimeter.

While Mohammad Zubair claimed there was “zero proof” that police personnel were injured in the stone-pelting, multiple photographs from ANI and IANS, along with an on-camera statement by an injured Delhi Police Sub-Inspector saying he was struck by stones, directly contradict his assertion.

Mohammed Zubair had earlier triggered Sar Tan Se Juda protests

Mohammed Zubair’s latest attempt to dismiss visual evidence of violence against Delhi Police personnel comes against the backdrop of his controversial role during the 2022 row over remarks made by former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

In 2022, Zubair triggered violence by amplifying incomplete video of Sharma’s remarks on social media, following which the controversy snowballed into nationwide protests. Several demonstrations witnessed the raising of “Sar Tan Se Juda” slogans, and the episode was followed by multiple incidents of targeted violence and death threats against Sharma. Among the most horrific incidents during that period was the brutal murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur by Islamists, who cited the controversy surrounding Nupur Sharma as the motive for the killing. Sharma continues to live under security cover due to persistent threats to her life.
