According to the White House, President Trump will meet Prime Minister Modi on 17th June in France on the sidelines of the G7 summit. As per a White House official the two leaders will meet before joining a working lunch with G7 leaders, outreach partners, and technology executives.
The meeting is expected to address key areas of mutual interest, including economic growth, supply chain resilience, investment partnerships, Artificial Intelligence, and global security challenges.
This will mark the first bilateral meeting between the two leaders since last year’s successful ‘Operation Sindoor’ against Pakistan. The senior US official noted that President Trump is scheduled to depart Washington on Monday and arrive in France for the summit, where he will also hold bilateral meetings with other leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron. PM Modi has already departed for Slovakia, from where he will go to France on 16th June.
Reports indicate that the discussions are likely to cover trade issues, energy cooperation, H-1B visa policies, regional security, and the evolving situation in West Asia. The meeting comes at a sensitive time in India-US relations amid recent diplomatic frictions, including India’s strong protests over US military strikes on commercial vessels in the Gulf of Oman that affected Indian seafarers.
Prime Minister Modi is attending the G7 Summit in Évian-les-Bains from June 15 to 17 at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. This marks his seventh consecutive appearance at the summit, where India continues to play a prominent role as a leading voice of the Global South. The interaction between Modi and Trump is expected to be closely watched for signals on managing recent tensions while advancing cooperation in trade, technology, defence, and regional security.
The White House has emphasised that the summit will provide an opportunity to advance US economic and strategic priorities, with a focus on critical minerals, supply chain security, responses to illegal immigration, and innovation in Artificial Intelligence. No further details on the exact nature of the Modi-Trump meeting have been released by officials so far.
