External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar defended India’s oil imports from Russia, saying, “At the end of it all, we make decisions that are in national interest.”
For months, Chinese restrictions on exports of key equipment and raw materials had threatened India’s infrastructure and industrial plans. Now, after Wang’s visit, Beijing has promised to resume supplies of tunnel boring machines critical for metro and highway projects, lift curbs on rare earth magnets indispensable for electric vehicles and renewable energy, and restart exports of speciality fertilisers essential for Indian agriculture.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to arrive in India on Monday for an official visit. During his three-day visit, Wang Yi will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 19th August
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held a meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and tri-services chiefs at his 7, Lok Kalyan Marg residence in New Delhi.
The Minister added that despite the knowledge India was not in a position to act and it did not have the necessary leverage over the former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina who could only be advised.
Responding to a comment by media that Kaziranga has the highest Tourist inflow, Dr Jaishankar said, "Yes I know. They were telling me that we have already crossed three lakhs. It's a good trend. Even the PM says we should visit every state because we have abundance of both natural and creative tourism.
During the session, he addressed the concerns raised following US President Donald Trump's statement that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) allocated $21 million to boost voter turnout in India.
