A banned Khalistani outfit has set up a fake ‘Embassy of Khalistan’ in Canada using a publicly funded building, triggering outrage and raising fresh questions about Ottawa’s tolerance for extremism.

A 42-year-old dispute over a religious site in Varanasi was peacefully resolved, with Hindu and Sikh committees agreeing to divide the land. The site, sealed after Indira Gandhi's assassination, will now host both a temple and a gurudwara.

The Gurdwara management called on all Canadians, Sikhs and people of goodwill to stand together in the face of extremism. “We must denounce these acts and reaffirm our shared commitment to the values of peace, unity, and respect. This attack is an attack on all of us – on the very unity that makes Canada strong."

The Uttarakhand STF and Haridwar Police have launched a joint operation to nab the absconding accused, the DGP said. The police said that more than 16 cases have been registered against Amarjeet Singh.

Senior police officers hurried to the scene, where the accused had barricaded himself inside the Chaura Khooh Gurudwara premises.

In an election rally in support of the BJP's Balaknath, in Alwar, BJP leader Sandeep Dayma reportedly said, "See how many Mosques, Gurdwaras have been built here! This will become an ulcer for us in the future. That is why it's our duty that this ulcer be uprooted and thrown out, and Baba Balak Nathji win by a huge majority."
