Mizoram police have seized crystal methamphetamine and heroin worth around Rs 350 crore. Another such big drug haul was seized in Zokhawthar village on 10th July, 2025
The northeastern states of Assam and Mizoram have unveiled stringent new measures to combat illegal immigration. They are responding to decades of demographic tensions and fresh security concerns. Under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s assertive leadership, Assam is implementing a multi-pronged strategy that includes biometric controls, accelerated deportations, and reclaiming encroached lands. While Mizoram, on the other hand, under Lalduhoma's leadership, tightened regulations for Myanmar nationals fleeing civil unrest.
Lalduhoma also claimed that 2000 foreigners visited Aizawl between June and December 2024 but were not seen on the streets. He hinted that the visitors might be conspiring to interfere in Myanmar's internal affairs.
The Meitei community in Manipur welcomed the Centre's decision to set up fence along the Indo-Myanmar border citing the problem of infiltration and cross-border narco-terrorism from Myanmar.
Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Mizoram Special Narcotics CID, apprehended three individuals and recovered heroin worth Rs 9.51 lakh from them in Aizawl.
"We have been unjustly divided, forced to exist under three different governments in three different countries, and this is something we can never accept," Lalduhoma had claimed.
