Back in 2021, Tarun Tejpal was acquitted by a Goa Sessions Court in the sexual assault case. His acquittal was challenged by the Goa government before the High Court. 

The head of the Alchemist Group, former TMC MP Kanwar Deep Singh, was arrested by the ED in January 2021 on charges of money laundering. The ED investigation also found that Alchemist Group utilized some of the money received by defrauding the public to make payments to aviation firms on behalf of TMC

The Supreme Court said that while the petitioner has heavily relied on the Tehelka tapes featuring Babu Bajrangi that had appeared in 2007, they are not legally acceptable.

After a district court in Goa absolved Tarun Tejpal Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said the state government will appeal against the verdict

In the statement Tarun Tejpal thanked Congress leaders like Salman Khurshid and Kapil Sibal for helping him in the legal battle.

Earlier, Additional Sessions Judge Kshama Joshi had reserved the verdict in the seven-year-old case.
