Ron Bikash Gaurav, expelled for posting ‘point blank’ meme by BJP Assam, expresses gratitude for support from BJP supporters

On Thursday (12th February), former social media co-convenor of the BJP Assam, Ron Bikash Gaurav, took to X (formerly Twitter) to highlight how he has received overwhelming support from BJP supporters.

Ron was removed from his position following misplaced outrage over a meme video, which was uploaded from the handle of BJP Assam on 7th February.

In a tweet on Thursday, he stated, “The last 24 hours have been one of the most emotional and defining moments of my life. In that difficult hour, when silence and uncertainty surrounded me, the Right Wing community did something I will never forget: you stood beside me like a wall of strength.”

“The flood of calls, the countless messages, the unexpected tweets, the words of solidarity from people I know and even from those I have never met, each one felt like a hand on my shoulder telling me you are not alone. I cannot fully express what that means to someone going through such a moment. Your support didn’t just comfort me; it gave me courage, dignity, and renewed faith,” Roh pointed out.

While further thanking BJP, he added, “Today I feel humbled, emotional, and immensely grateful. This is not just support, it is a bond, a family, a shared belief that rises above positions and titles. No matter what happens next, I will carry this love and solidarity in my heart forever. From the depths of my soul, thank you for standing with me when it mattered the most.”

A social media meme and a needless controversy

On 7th February, the official handle of the BJP Assam posted an AI-generated video targeting Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi using the “Paijan” meme persona. The said video showed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma taking shots at Gogoi wearing a skullcap, sitting next to a Muslim cleric.

The funny video was, however misconstruted to suggest that the Assam CM wanted to kill all Muslims in the State. The left-liberal and Islamist lobby was quick to decry the video as ‘genocidal’. Following social media upheaval, the video with over 5 lakh views was deleted from the handle of the BJP Assam.

On Wednesday (11th February), Ron Bikash Gaurav was sacked as the social media co-convenor of the BJP Assam for ‘unauthorised action’.

State BJP President Dilip Saikia stated, “Our party is concerned about the issue of Bangladeshi immigrants in Assam, but we do not support the imagery used in the video. We got the video deleted from the X platform after noting that it was uploaded without permission.”

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma pointed out that he was initially unaware of the controversy. He emphasised that the party is against Miyas (illegal Bangladeshi Muslims) and not against Assamese Muslims.
