Santosh Kumar, who triggered Kharge’s “Modi ka baap” remark, turns out to be a ‘misunderstood’ Congress supporter: Here’s what happened

On 25th October, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge lost his cool during a public function in Bihar’s Patna after a ‘heckler’ shouted “…Modi kahin jayega [Modi won’t go anywhere]”. Kharge angrily retorted, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega [Even Modi’s father will have to go]”, assuming that it was a BJP supporter. However, it turned out that the ‘heckler’ was actually a Congress supporter, Santosh Kumar, who lamented that his sentence wasn’t heard in full, and he meant to say that unless the public revolts, Modi will not go anywhere.

“I was actually saying, ‘Unless the public revolts, Modi will not go,” Congress supporter Santosh Kumar told the media after Congress workers thrashed and threw him out of the venue after Kharge aggressively responded to his ‘misunderstood’ comment.

Kumar’s “unless the public revolts” bit was lost in the noise during the event marking the 139th birth anniversary of Shri Krishna Singh, Bihar’s first chief minister.

Santosh Kumar’s subsequent attempts to salvage the damage, including his screeches of “Narendra Modi has done nothing for the country in 12 years as PM! The whole country is now rising against him! We need a massive public revolt!”, went in vain.

The incident happened during the 139th birth anniversary celebration of Bihar’s first Chief Minister, Dr Krishna Singh, when a person attending the event disrupted Kharge’s speech and made remarks in support of PM Modi. The person told Kharge that PM Modi will not go anywhere, meaning that PM Modi will continue to rule the country.

The person’s remarks deeply disturbed Kharge, who stared at the man with anger and frustration and yelled at him, saying, “Modi ka to baap bhi jaega” (Not just Modi, even his father will have to go). Kharge then went on to call PM Modi a liar. “Modi has a habit of lying. He falsely promised the people of the country to bring back black money,” Kharge added.

Now the issue has spiralled into a political storm.

From Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP workers to common people, Kharge is receiving a barrage of criticism for launching frustrated personal attacks on PM Modi.

Meanwhile, a BJP worker, Krishna Kumar Singh, has filed a police complaint against Kharge at the Kotwali Police Station in Patna. The case is being transferred to Gandhi Maidan Police Station as the incident unfolded under its jurisdiction.

The complainant has sought Kharge’s public apology within 24 hours for his derogatory remarks against PM Modi.
