On Tuesday, 12th May, Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as the Chief Minister of Assam for a second consecutive term at a grand ceremony held at the Veterinary Ground in the Khanapara area of Guwahati. With this, the NDA formed its third successive government in the state.

Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Sarma and four newly inducted ministers. The ceremony was attended by several top NDA leaders, chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from BJP-ruled states and Union Territories.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister Pabitra Margherita and BJP national president Nitin Nabin were present during the oath-taking programme. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and several NDA chief ministers and deputy chief ministers also attended the event.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor was also present at the ceremony along with industrialists, religious leaders and senior BJP leaders.
Four ministers also take the Oath
Along with Sarma, four MLAs took the oath as ministers in the new government. They include BJP leaders Rameswar Teli and Ajanta Neog, Asom Gana Parishad leader Atul Bora and Bodoland People’s Front MLA Charan Boro.
Former minister and senior BJP leader Ranjeet Kumar Dass has been named as the NDA candidate for the post of Speaker of the Assam Assembly. According to party leaders, the final expansion of the cabinet and the complete list of ministers will be decided after discussions with BJP national president Nitin Nabin.
Heavy security arrangements in Guwahati
Large security arrangements were made around the Khanapara area ahead of the swearing-in ceremony. Barricades, traffic diversions and multi-layered security deployment were put in place to manage the movement of leaders and guests attending the event.
With this swearing-in, Himanta Biswa Sarma has become the only non-Congress leader in Assam to serve as chief minister for a second consecutive term under the NDA government.
