According to reports, the sound of the gunshots was heard after a teenager fired a gun at the corner of 44th Street and Broadway at around 3.30 pm (local time). The teenager was taken into custody after the shooting incident. No injury was reported from the gunshots.

Visuals of the incident show chaotic scenes in Times Square with people running around frantically after hearing the gunshots. The shooting occurred minutes after people gathered to celebrate the NBA champion New York Knicks. Around 10,000 police officers had been deployed to secure the event. The New York Police Department (NYPD) said that the area was filled with a large crowd when the shooting occurred.
