Jensen Huang, the CEO of the American tech company Nvidia, expressed excitement about India’s ongoing journey in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Speaking on the sidelines of the G20 Innovation Ministerial, North Carolina, US, on Wednesday (2nd September), Huang described India as one of the leading AI industries. He credited PM Modi’s advanced vision on AI for the growth of India’s AI sector.
“India is one of the world’s leading IT industries. And this is the beginning of a new IT platform. And I had the benefit of seeing Modiji a decade ago talking about AI,” Huang said.
Huang Furher said that he was excited to see India’s local AI economy growing and contributing to AI technology. “And I’m really anxious to see and very excited to see the local companies and the local startups starting in India, starting to take advantage of the technology, contributing to the technology, and then building the local AI economy,” he added.

Highlighting that AI is moving faster, Huang urged all countries, including India, to move faster. He said that AI is not just another technology; it has slowly become a part of the crucial infrastructure required to build modern economies.
While he praised the US approach to AI, Huang emphasised that every country should build their AI economy by choosing components that are best suited to its requirements. In the Indian context, he said that a combination of existing software and IT capabilities with AI computing, applications, and start-ups could be a part of the country’s AI journey.
The words of appreciation and encouragement for India’s emerging AI economy from Huang are significant, as his company makes chips widely used to power AI systems. India, under the Modi government, has ramped up efforts to develop its AI and semiconductor capabilities. The country is working on building capabilities to set up a technology ecosystem that would cover chip manufacturing, chip design, research and development, computing infrastructure, applications, and skilled talent.
