‘Journalist’ Omar Rashid files defamation case against woman who accused him of raping her and force-feeding beef as a ‘test of secularism’

‘Journalist’ Omar Rashid has filed a defamation case at the Delhi High Court against a woman who accused him of raping her and forcing her to eat beef. The case is listed for hearing before Sachin Dutta today (9th September). In the defamation suit, Rashid has sought damages and legal accountability for what he has described as a “sinister campaign” against him.

The defamation suit follows the closure of an inquiry into a case filed against him by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) last year, when Rashid was working with the leftist propaganda portal The Wire. A case was lodged by the NHRC against Rashid after allegations including rape, torture, and forced beef eating emerged against him through anonymous social media posts. However, the NHRC recently closed its inquiry against Rashid after both the complainant and the victim refused to come forward and cooperate in the legal proceedings.

The NHRC took cognisance of the serious allegations levelled against Rashid after a person named Tanmay N., the convenor of the ‘Sahyadri Rights Forum’, filed a complaint against Rashid based on an anonymous Instagram post that surfaced in May 2025. The posts were made by an unidentified woman, divulging the harrowing details of rape, sexual abuse, physical assault, psychological torture, and extreme religious and cultural humiliation that Rashid subjected her to.

Calling Omar Rashid a serial abuser and rapist, the woman had alleged that she was brutally beaten, slapped, kicked and violently raped by Omar multiple times. Throughout the span of the ‘relationship’, the woman stated that she has been subjected to extreme sexual humiliation, abuse, beatings and violent rape that left her bleeding and bruised.

Subsequently, the NHRC filed a case against Rashid and The Wire on 23rd May 2025, and directed the Delhi Police Commissioner to start an investigation. Later, on 6th October 2025, the Delhi Police Commissioner submitted a report before the NHRC in which he stated that the victim refused to disclose her identity and address and therefore no further action could be taken. On March 13th 2026, the NHRC stated that no response was received from the complainant or the victim to the report submitted by the Delhi Police, leading to the closure of the inquiry.

Allegations of extreme torture, humiliation, and sexual assault

The anonymous Instagram posts gave chilling details of what the victim went through at the hands of Omar Rashid. The victim gave a graphic account of how she was subjected to brutal and humiliating rape and sexual assault by Rashid, even as she begged him not to do that. According to the victim, Rashid had unprotected sexual intercourse with her, which is why she had to regularly consume i-pills and secretly visit a gynaecologist, as he did not allow her to see a doctor.

She said that he made her eat beef as some “weird test of secularism” and forced her to keep their ‘relationship’ secret to protect him from the allegations of Love Jihad.
