‘Nothing will change until there is a bloodbath in the country for 30-40 years’: Congress supporter tells OpIndia during ‘protests’ over SIR

Amid the Opposition-led protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Friday (2nd October), OpIndia spoke to a Congress supporter who openly called for a “bloodbath” to change the system in the country.

The Congress supporter said that it would take three to four decades of massive violent revolution to bring a change in the system. “Nothing will change until there is a bloodbath in the country for 30-40 years,” the Congress supporters said, romanticising violence and bloodshed.

“People will have to die. Just like how people died during the British period,” he said, adding that “revolutionaries” will emerge like in the pre-Independence period who will bring the change. When the OpIndia reporter reminded the Congress supporter that revolutionaries had fought to establish democracy so that change of power could happen without violence, he claimed that the system has failed and a violent revolution is needed to change it.

The Congress supporter further defended his call for a violent revolution, claiming that this was the only way to deal with 7-8 crore people associated with the RSS.

The Congress supporter also argued that elections should not be held using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and suggested that the country should revert to using ballot papers for voting. “Ballot paper gives clarity. Manual votes can be counted. If you vote for Rahul Gandhi, it will not go to Modi,” he suggested.

Justifying his suggestion, the Congress supporter claimed that EVMs are tamperable because they lack any “hardcore circuit”. “There is no hardcore circuit in it (EVM). It has a very normal circuit. People these days are even able to hack AI,” he claimed.

When the OpIndia reporter tried to confront him with the fact that the Supreme Court upheld the security and reliability of EVMs, he dismissed it, alleging that the entire system, including the courts, is corrupt. “You know what the actual problem is: the entire system is corrupt, including the RBI, judiciary, politics, and police. All of it is sold,” the Congress supporter declared.
