Veteran actor Nana Patekar passes away, medico-legal case filed; postmortem to determine cause of death: Details 

On 7th October 2026, veteran actor Nana Patekar passed away reportedly after suffering a cardiac arrest at his Dona Paula residence in Goa. The 75-year-old actor was at home with his nephew Prasad Patekar on Wednesday.  

Reports say that Nana Patekar had been complaining of a headache since Tuesday night. He was found unconscious later and was rushed to Manipal Hospital. Doctors tried to revive him for nearly 45 minutes after he was brought in, but there was no response. 

Nana Patekar was declared dead at 5:20 am. 

Meanwhile, a medico-legal case has been registered, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of Patekar’s death. 

Taking to X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences to the Patekar family on the demise of the veteran actor.

“Few actors possessed the intensity, individuality and unmistakable presence that Shri Nana Patekar Ji had. He brought remarkable versatility and creativity to every role and gave us characters that will be remembered for generations. He was also admired for his frank and forthright views, never hesitating to express what he believed in. Shri Nana Patekar’s contribution to Hindi and Marathi cinema was immense. His passing leaves a deep void. My condolences to his family, friends and countless admirers. Om Shanti,” PM Modi wrote.

Born on  1st January 1951 in Maharashtra, Nana Patekar made his Bollywood debut in the film ‘Gaman’. Patekar impressed the audience with his performance in the film Tirangaa (1991). During the early 2000s, Patekar received praise for his performances in Shakti: The Power (2002), Ab Tak Chhappan (2004), Apaharan (2005), and Taxi No 9211 (2006). He also received widespread praise for playing the gangster ‘Uday Shetty’ in the comedy Welcome (2007) and its sequel Welcome Back (2015). 

The veteran actor was also a part of the political thriller Raajneeti (2010). The Prakash Jha directorial earned him his fifth nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. In Marathi, ‘Natsamrat’ remains one of his career-defining roles. 

Beyond his screen roles, Nana Patekar had a deep connection with the Indian armed forces. In 1990, Patekar joined the Indian Territorial Army. To play an army major authentically in the film Prahaar: The Final Attack, Nana Patekar underwent three years of rigorous army training and worked with General VK Singh during the process. 

During the 1999 Kargil War, Nana Patekar contributed to the nation’s defence with his contributions as a member of the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment.
