Mohammad Fayaz locked his 18-year-old wife inside their rented house in Hyderabad and sent three of his friends to sexually assault her repeatedly, according to a complaint filed by the woman. The abuse came to light on 23rd October, when the house owner broke open the lock after arriving to collect pending rent.
An 18-year-old woman from Myanmar, identified as Humaira Tamanna, has accused her husband and his three friends of sexually abusing her. According to her complaint, she was living in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, when she met Fayaz. She said that he promised to marry her and brought her to India in May without informing her family. The two got married in Hyderabad three to four days after arriving in the country.
About a month after their marriage, Fayaz brought three friends, identified as Ahmad Mujeeb, Noor Kamal and Zia-ur-Rehman, to stay at their rented house. The three men are also from Myanmar and live in Hyderabad.
In her complaint, Tamanna revealed that Fayaz would lock the house from the outside before leaving and allow his three friends to enter. She said that the men repeatedly raped her during these visits.
She further added that two of the accused threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the assaults. Fear and uncertainty about where to seek help prevented her from reporting the abuse earlier.
The incident came to light on 23rd October, when the house owner arrived to collect the pending rent. After finding the house locked from the outside, he broke open the lock, allowing the woman to leave.
She then borrowed someone else’s mobile phone to contact her family and was taken to a relative’s house.
FIR was registered against the accused
On Monday, 26th October, the woman’s relative, Mohammad Rasheed, took her to a police station, where she filed a complaint detailing the abuse.
Police have registered an FIR against Fayaz and his three friends. According to the local reports, the four men have been charged with rape, wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation. The matter is under investigation. The accused men’s responses to the allegations were not available at the time of writing.
